Chapter 1 ~ Year 2011 (present time)
Sabrina's Parents House
“Dad!?” Sabrina yelled once she entered into her father’s home.
“Im in the kitchen!” her father yelled back.
Sabrina lead her eight year old son into the kitchen where her father was. Her father was leaning over the kitchen sink with the water running as if he were washing dishes. “Dad, are you okay?” Sabrina asked as she rushed over to help him.
“Im fine. Just washing out this coffee pot. I can’t seem to get all the coffee grains out of it.” He calmly stated in a weak voice.
Sabrina sighed. “Dad…you should be laying down in bed.” Sabrina gently took the coffee pot away from him. “Have you had your coffee already this morning?” Her father shook his head no as he slowly pulled out a chair from the table to sit in. “Okay, I’ll fix your coffee for you.” Sabrina proceeded to go thru his kitchen cabinets for the coffee. She then turned around speaking to her son, Cody, “Baby, go ahead and put your things in the guest bedroom.”
“Okay.” Cody said hoisting his bag over his shoulder. He then reached for his grandfather to give him a hug. “Hey grandpa.” His grandfather hugged him tightly. Cody pulled away and rested his hand on his grandfather’s shoulder. “How are you feeling today, grandpa?”
His grandfather let out a small chuckle. “Oh, Im doing alright, grandson. I can’t complain. Im happy now that you’re here.”
Cody smiled. “That’s awesome grandpa. Me too.” He then rushed off to the guest bedroom upstairs to put away his belongings.
Sabrina smiled as she completed brewing the coffee. She then joined her father at the kitchen table where he sat. “Dad, how are you really?”
“Im fine, honey. Really, I am.” He smiled and grabbed Sabrina’s hand in comfort.
“What did the doctors say at your last appointment?” Sabrina asked as she placed her other hand on top of her father’s hand.
Her father sighed tiredly. “Well…as long as I keep taking my medicine, and be slightly active, I will be fine.”
Sabrina raised an eyebrow. “Slightly active?” she asked suspiciously. Her father nodded with reassurance. “Are you sure it’s okay to have Cody over here? Because, you know I can send him over to aunt Kelly’s house.”
Sabrina’s father, Mr. Dean Cain, waved his hand at Sabrina. “No, don’t be silly honey. Leave him here. I’ll be fine…” At that moment, Cody returned into the kitchen placing his arm around his grandfather’s shoulder. Mr. Cain continued as he smiled at his grandson, “…we’ll be fine, right, Code-miester?”
“Yep!” Cody smiled.
Sabrina smiled and rose to her feet. “Oh-kay. If you say so.” She then walked over to kiss her son’s forehead and then leaned over to kiss her father’s cheek. “I will see you guys later! Cody, don’t get on your grandfather’s nerves.”
“Got it!” Cody yelled as Sabrina walked out of the kitchen.
As Sabrina walked into the living room to walk out the front door, she glanced over at the fireplace mantle. It was something she did routinely before leaving her father’s home. She would look at a younger picture of her mother and father. One picture was of her parent’s wedding day and a few other pictures of them together. Sabrina longingly looked at her mother, Teri Cain’s, solo picture. Sabrina quietly blew a kiss toward her mother’s picture and walked out the door.
“Im in the kitchen!” her father yelled back.

Sabrina's Work Place
“Ms. Cain, can I please get you to look at this?” a woman said as she entered into Sabrina’s office.
Sabrina had just placed the phone back on its receiver when the woman had entered into her office. Sabrina looked up at the woman in distress and sighed. “What is it, Lilly?”
Just as the woman named Lilly stepped up to Sabrina’s desk, Sabrina’s phone rang again. However, Lilly continued speaking. “These files were not included in that report we sent out earlier this week. Mr. Connery is going to flip.”
Sabrina looked at the woman in distressed and rubbed her forehead out of frustration. “Are you serious?” Sabrina then picked up her phone that was continuously ringing. “This is Sabrina,” she answered. The woman named Lilly stood there impatiently waiting for Sabrina to get off the phone. “Okay…I’ll see if I can get Stan to get that to you as soon as possible. Thanks.” Sabrina said into the phone and replaced it on the receiver. She then took the files from Lilly and looked over them.
“Uhm, Sabrina, this is not going to work! Stan is not here, again!” said a man named Gary who walked into Sabrina’s office without knocking on her open door. Gary was a rather flamboyant gay man. Everyone knew of his personality. You either loved it or hated it, but either way, Gary didn’t care. You could take it or leave it, was his motto. Gary also worked under Sabrina and was a very good friend of hers as well. “I can’t work under these conditions.” Gary said whipping his head back and folding his arms.
“Gary, can’t you see we’re busy?” Lilly said annoyed.
Gary rolled his neck at Lilly and cocked his head. He raised his index finger up and stated with an attitude, “Oh no you didn’t. I do think my crisis is more important than whatever little thing you are fired up about Miss Missy.”
Sabrina chuckled as she continued to look down at the files Lilly had brought in to her.
“Gary, you have some nerves just barging in here when you know…” Lilly’s voice trailed off as she began arguing with Gary.
“Yes, and what are you going to do about it…” Gary’s voice trailed off as he entertained the argument with Lilly.
“Ooh, looks like Im right on time for the fight of the century!” said another co-worker entering into Sabrina’s office. It was Sabrina’s best friend, Raven.
Sabrina looked up and raised to her feet. “Ok guys, enough already! Geez, it’s too early for this. Don’t you guys ever get tired of arguing with each other?” Both Lilly and Gary only glared at each other. Sabrina continued, “Lilly, the reason these files weren’t on the report is because the dates are missing. Re-run the reports and make sure every file has a date on them. The correct date.” Sabrina stated handing the files back to Lilly.
Lilly took the files and glanced thru them. She was amazed at how Sabrina was able to discover the error in such little time. “Thanks, Sabrina! I’ll get right on it.” Lilly smiled and quickly exited out of Sabrina’s office.
Gary twisted his lips at Lilly as she walked out. He then quickly changed his expression to a pleasant one as he turned his attention to Sabrina. Sabrina stated, “Gary, Stan will be here, he left me a voice mail message that he was running a little late. So no worries.”
“Oh. Well…he should have told me too, ‘cause I can’t take all this pressure, honey!” Gary said dabbing away his fake perspiration from his forehead and neck.
Raven laughed. “Gary, you are too much! You’re such a drama queen!”
“Why thank you darling!” Gary said and walked out of Sabrina’s office.
Sabrina took a deep breath and slightly rolled her eyes at the drama she quickly diffused in her office. She sat back down and looked thru her paperwork on her desk. She then stated to her friend, Raven, without looking up, “Are you on your coffee break already?”

“Girrrl, you won’t believe what I got to work out for you!” Raven exclaimed as she took a seat across from Sabrina at her desk.
“What?” Sabrina looked up at Raven.
Raven’s hazel brown eyes gleamed with excitement as she stared back at her. She placed her French manicured nails on top of Sabrina’s work. “Put this stuff up, girl. You are going on a little vacation!” Sabrina looked at her friend with confusion. Raven continued, “Duh! You know? You’re high school reunion! You know, the one that is going to be held in Orlando, Florida!”
“Oh, no, no, no. There is no way I can go.” Sabrina said shaking her head no feverishly as she looked back down at her paper work.
“What do you mean, no? You cannot not go! Besides…you need some sun, and plus, I already cleared it with Mr. Connery, your boss.” Raven smiled devilishly as she sat back in her chair folding her arms across her chest.
“Raven, You did what?” Sabrina said looking back up at her.
“Yep! Mr. Connery approved your time off for the rest of this week and half of next week. Booyah! Girlfriend you are going! And guess what? Im going with you! Owww! Ladies night!” Raven said in a celebratory tone.
“Raven, I told you. I can’t go. I can’t leave my son with my dad all that time. He would wear my dad out.”
“Well, looks like we better figure something out, because our plane leaves in a few hours!”
“WHAT?! Raven!” Sabrina shockingly stated.
“Sabrina, I had to. You and I both know that if I didn’t do this, you would not go. You would think of every freaking excuse. Girl, you haven’t had a vacation in forever! You have been stressing out about your dad, this job, and I think you just need to get some sun, and get away. And what better way to do it than in the sunshine state of Florida, and at your high school ten year reunion!”
“Raven, you don’t understand. My high school years sucked! No one will even know who I am. I wasn’t noticeable then, and im not noticeable now.” Sabrina said briefly thinking about her high school years.
“Are you freaking kidding me? You are a sexy hot latina. Have you looked in the mirror lately? And… you have the most, finest, yellow, caramel, black, honey-licious, best friend in the world to escort you!” Raven exclaimed describing herself. She then continued, “Girl, you can’t go wrong! It will be like…your ‘look at me now’ moment. Its like…bringing Maury Povich to our reality show! Annnd…if you really don’t want to leave little Cody with your dad…then we can just allow my mom to watch him. Im sure she won’t mind. Cody is such a sweetie, my mom won’t mind.”
“You haven’t been around Cody lately have you?” Sabrina joked about her son. Raven smiled and continued to plead a case for Sabrina to change her mind and to go on this vacation. Sabrina was slowly caving in. “What about Mr. Connery. Are you sure he doesn’t mind me having all this time off? There are so many logos that need to be done for all of these unfinished advertisements and…”
“Girl no!” Raven quickly responded with a laugh. “He agreed that you haven’t had any time off.” Raven paused as she saw the weakness in Sabrina’s eyes. She knew she was slowly giving in. “C’mon, Brina. I know there has got to be at least one guy from your high school you want to see you now.”
Sabrina thought for a moment. There was one guy she hadn’t seen or talked to since high school that she would love to see again. She thought about his face since the first day she met him up until the last time she saw him. Sabrina’s phone rung on her desk forcing her to leave her memories. She quickly picked up the phone answering, “This is Sabrina.” Raven folded her hands together as if praying for Sabrina to go. There was a long pause when Sabrina finally responded into the phone. “Okay. Can you do this for me? Can you please forward that information to Stan Dwight or Gary Foster? I will be out of the office on vacation for the rest of the week and next week.”
At that, Raven jumped up from her seat and quietly began shouting, “YESSSSSS!!!! Yes, yes, yessss!!!”
“What?” Sabrina looked up at Raven.

Sabrina's Parents House & Her Aunt Kelly
“I want souvenirs galore, do you hear me?” Sabrina’s aunt Kelly said playfully. “I promise, I promise!” Sabrina said as she placed Cody’s bags on the bed at her father’s house.
"Me too, mom! I need a lot of stuff!” Cody exclaimed as he flopped on the bed next to his grandfather.
“Especially you!” Sabrina smiled at her son. She then looked at her aunt. “Aunt Kelly, I can’t say thank you enough.”
“It’s no problem.” Kelly responded.
“Yes, it is. I don’t need a babysitter for my time with my grandson.” Mr. Cain stated slightly in a sour tone.
“Dean, you don’t want me over here? Is that how you treat me? You’re beautiful younger sister?” Kelly said giving her older brother a pout.
“That’s exactly what I’m sayin.” Mr. Cain stated.
Sabrina and Kelly looked at each other and smiled. Kelly added, “He’s so freaking cranky. But don’t worry, me and Code-meister will handle him. Right, Cody?”
“Yep!” Cody responded giving his grandfather a light pat on the back.
“Okay…well I should go! I have to meet Raven at the airport. I love you all.” Sabrina said as she gave everyone a hug and kiss. “Dad…behave yourself okay?”
“You behave yourself as well. I hope you have fun, sweetie. Who knows, maybe you will see that little boy you used to like a long time ago.” He smiled.
“Oh my gosh, dad! I can’t believe you just said that.” Sabrina laughed and kissed him one more time as well as her son Cody. She then exited the house, but not without blowing a kiss to her mother’s picture over the fire place mantle.
Sabrina knew exactly who her father was talking about when he mentioned a little boy she used to like. His name was Nick Lancaster. He was the most popular boy in high school. He was known as the heart throb. He was also the boy she had thought about when Raven asked her if there was that one person she wished she could have that ‘look at me now’ moment. But now, Nick Lancaster would be a man. Sabrina wondered how would he look now? Would he be married? Divorced? Kids? Would he even remember her? Sabrina shook her head at the thoughts as she drove away toward the airport. ‘He has to remember me. We’ve known each other since we were kids,’ Selena thought to herself.

Chapter 2 ~ Year 1988
Sabrina Cain (Age 5)
“Here you go sweetie! Strawberry pancakes just the way you like it.” Sabrina’s mother said with a smile as she placed a plateful of strawberry pancakes in front of her.
“Thanks mommy!”
Her mother kissed her on the forehead. Sabrina’s father rushed down the stairs tightening his tie around his neck, preparing to leave for work. Dean kissed his wife on the lips and quickly turned to kiss Sabrina on the crown of her head. “Sweetie, have a great 1st day of school. Just remember, daddy loves you.”
“Okay.” Sabrina said sweetly.
Within seconds, her father was out the door.
Time passed and it was time for Sabrina to go to kindergarten. Her mother walked her to her class hand in hand. Before Sabrina walked into her class room, her mother kneeled down to her level and looked her in the eyes. “Okay sugar bear, this is your class. Are you ready to go in?”
Sabrina looked worried. “Im scared.”
Sabrina’s mother gave her one last hug and kiss on the cheek. “Oh honey, don’t be scared. You will make plenty of friends. And look, there’s your teacher.” Teri pointed to Sabrina’s kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Martin.
Mrs. Martin approached Sabrina with a genuine smile on her face. “Hi! This must be Sabrina," she smiled extending her hand greeting Sabrina with a hand shake. She continued, "Welcome to your new classroom. Can I show you something?” Ms. Martin asked extending her hand for Sabrina to take it once again. Sabrina looked at her mother as if asking if it were okay. Teri smiled and nodded her head reassuring her daughter Sabrina that it was okay. Sabrina slowly took Ms. Martin’s hand and followed her lead. Ms. Martin smiled at Sabrina’s mother and lead Sabrina toward the back of the class room. Teri shed a tear as she watched her daughter a few more longing minutes while standing at the door. She couldn't believe her baby girl was in school.
“Sabrina, this is Taylor. She was looking for someone to help her color these pictures. Would you like to help her?” Ms. Martin asked with a smile.
Sabrina nodded her head yes.
The little girl with blonde curly hair smiled at Sabrina and handed her a box of crayons. “Here, you can color with these.” She smiled showing her baby teeth. Sabrina smiled back as she took off her jacket. Within seconds, both girls began coloring and sharing their crayons with each other.
At that, Teri, Sabrina's mother, smiled and walked away.
A little boy approached their table and pointed at a red stain on Sabrina’s purple colored Rainbow Brite character designed shirt. “What’s that? You're bleeding?”
Taylor looked over at Sabrina’s shirt and saw the red stain. She immediately opened her mouth in the form of an “O” shape and gasped. Sabrina looked down at her shirt and saw the stain that used to be covered by her jacket. Sabrina immediately realized it was the strawberry syrup from her strawberry pancakes she had earlier for breakfast. “Nuh-unh. It’s syrup!” Sabrina protested.
“Prove it!” The little boy said still pointing to the stain on her shirt. Sabrina pulled her shirt up to her mouth and stuck her tongue out and licked the stain. “See…syrup!”
“Let me see.” The little boy responded walking closer to Sabrina wanting to taste the stain for himself. Sabrina gladly walked up to him to allow him to lick the stain on her shirt. Before the little boy had the chance to give her shirt a lick with his tongue, their teacher, Ms. Martin quickly called out to him. “Nicholas! Stop, what are you doing?” Ms. Martin made her way up to the three students.
“She’s bleeding.” Nicholas answered now back to pointing at Sabrina’s shirt.
“No im not!” Sabrina answered in protest.
“She made a booboo with her food.” Taylor added with a smile as she continued to color.
“Okay, Nicholas you go play somewhere else, and Sabrina why don’t you come with me and we can fix your pretty Rainbow Brite shirt.” Ms. Martin said as she took Nicholas and Sabrina’s hand.

From that moment on, Sabrina and Taylor became the best of friends. Nicholas always tried to find something wrong with either Taylor or Sabrina. Sabrina’s mother told her that he probably liked her since he wouldn’t leave her alone. To make matters more interesting, Nicholas lived in the same neighborhood as Sabrina. They were actually next door neighbors.
Sabrina was playing with her cabbage patch dolls when she saw Nicholas and his dad walking over to their house. Sabrina quickly got up from the porch and ran over to her mother who was gardening. Sabrina quickly tapped her mother’s shoulder and said quietly, “Mommy, somebody’s coming.” Teri turned around and saw a man walking with what looked like his young son. She stood up wiping her hands preparing to greet the visitors. “Hi. May I help you?” Teri said shielding her eyes from the sun.
“Hello!” Nicholas’s father said in a friendly tone. “How are you? My name is Keanu Lancaster, Im your next door neighbor…” he said extending his hand to shake Sabrina’s mother hand. “…and this is my son, Nicholas Lancaster.”
“Hi, I’m Terri Cain. This is my daughter, Sabrina. Nice to finally meet you. I thought I’ve seen you around my daughter’s class dropping off your son.” Teri said nicely and taking his hand to greet him.
Keanu chuckled. “Yes, that would be me. It’s been a real struggle, I must say. You see, my wife and I have very demanding jobs. And things are really about to get rough.” He paused as if waiting for Teri to respond. She remained silent and listened to him intently. “Maybe you’ve seen my wife around? Her name is Sandra.”
“Oh okay. I may have seen her in passing.” Teri smiled.
While the adults spoke, Nicholas and Sabrina seem to be having a staring match with each other. However they remained close to their parent.
Keanu continued, “I hope this doesn’t sound too forward, but…I was wondering if you could do my wife and I a huge favor. We were hoping wondering if it would be okay if you could pick up our son from school when you pick up daughter, Sabrina?”
“Oh!” Teri said a bit surprised. “Uhm…” she hesitated.
“I know it sounds like a lot, but it would only be for about 2 hours. My wife would be able to pick him up from here and we will even give you money for your trouble. Just name the price.”
Nicholas stuck his tongue out at Sabrina. Sabrina rolled her eyes and shook her head thinking the boy was just weird and stupid. She then walked around to the other side of her mother so the boy from her classroom would stop staring at her.
“Sure. I don’t think it would be a problem. He seems like a nice quiet young man.” Teri finally responded as she looked down at Nicholas.
Nicholas was now smiling from ear to ear as if he were indeed an innocent child.
“Thank you, thank you! I can’t say thank you enough.”
“Should I start looking for him tomorrow after school?” Teri asked.
“Yes, if you can.” Keanu smiled with gratitude.
From that point forward, Sabrina and Nicholas Lancaster became more like brother and sister. They didn’t quite get along, but they were pretty much forced to be around each other due to the after school arrangement their parents had made.
