Chapter 31 (Part 1)
Selena carried a sleepy Nina in her arms as she walked out
of the house. She locked the door and walked to the car. Once she fastened Nina
into her car seat, Selena hopped into the driver seat, started the car, and put it into reverse as she exited the driveway heading off to the store.
-------------
Traffic was slower than usual as Nick started to panic. Nick said a curse when he realized some road construction workers were delaying the traffic. Nick dialed home for Selena. The phone rang without anyone picking up. Nick said another curse. Nick dialed Selena’s cell phone. Again there was no pick up. Nick called the police. “I need the police to go over to my house, I think my family might be in danger because I don’t know what this person is capable of.” Nick said into the phone as he started to give out his information.
------------
Selena walked into the store holding Nina who was now awake. “Guess what Nina. Mommy accidently left her cell phone at home. That sucks, huh?” Nina responded by making spit noises. “Yeah, I know.” Selena said as she continued to shop in the store.
-----------
Nick continued to dial Selena’s cell phone but she would not pick up. “Dammit, Sel! Why aren’t you picking up?” Nick said out loud in a frustrated tone as he continued to weave in and out of traffic racing to get back home. Nick dialed Joe’s cell phone.
“Hello?” Joe answered in a groggy tone.
“Joe where are you?” Nick rushed into the phone.
“Uh…at home. Why?” Joe responded sounding a little more alert after hearing the panic in Nick’s voice.
Nick filled Joe in on what happened earlier about the break in. He then asked Joe to rush over to his house.
“Im on it.” Joe said quickly and ended the call.
Nick started to blow his horn trying to make people move out of his way, but people weren’t moving fast enough. A few moments later, Nick received a call from an unknown number. “Hello?” Nick answered in a panic.
“Nicholas Dawson?”
“Yes?”
“This is Officer Russell, there’s no one at your home sir. Are you sure someone threatened your family?”
“What do you mean no one is home?” Nick thought for a moment. He remembered Selena said she had to go to the store. “Can you please just wait there, to make sure my wife gets home safely. Please sir, Im begging you.” Nick pleaded into the phone.
The officer agreed.
Nick quickly exited off the highway and headed toward the store that Selena usually goes to, hoping to find her there before Cindy.
------------
Selena was holding Nina as she casually walked out to the parking lot from the store with the guy who had bagged her groceries. Once the man unloaded her grocery bags into the car, Selena thanked him and hopped into her car. Nina was in the back seat talking jibberish as Selena talked back to her pretending to understand what she was talking about.
As Selena drove down the road she noticed a car quickly speed up behind her. Selena looked in her rear view mirror wondering why the person was being an ass and driving so close behind her car bumper. She tried to see who the driver was but there was a shadow, and she was not able to see the driver. “What an asshole. Go around dumb ass.” Selena said quietly to herself as she continued to look in the rear view mirror.
The driver sped up blowing their horn continuously at her. Selena said a curse. She rolled her window down and waved for the driver to go around her. However the driver stayed behind her. Selena pulled over slowly to the side of the road hoping the person would pass her, but the person pulled over right behind her. “What the hell?” Selena said confused. Selena started to reach for her cell phone and then stopped herself. “Dammit, the one time I really need my phone, I don’t have it.” she said out loud to herself. Selena turned around to look back at Nina to make sure she was okay. Nina quietly looked back at Selena with her big pretty brown eyes not knowing what was going on. Selena then slowly turned back around looking into the rear view mirror watching the person behind her. No one stepped out of the car. Selena grabbed her door handle and was about to open the door. She then stopped and wondered what would happen if she stepped out of the car leaving Nina in the car.
Selena didn’t want to put Nina in danger so she decided to stay in the car and just drive off. When Selena pulled off, the driver pulled off close behind her. Selena was getting nervous and scared. She didn’t know who this person was and she she definitely didn’t want that person to follow her home. She decided to drive to a populated area. Selena started to drive faster. The driver sped up behind Selena once again, but this time the driver hit her from behind pushing her car forward.
Selena screamed. “Oh my God!” Selena quickly looked back at Nina to make sure she was okay. Nina started to cry not sure what was going on. The person behind her sped up again hitting Selena’s bumper and now trying to maneuver Selena’s car off the road. Selena screamed as she started to lose control of the wheel. Her car started to do a fish tail move down the road until it finally just spun out of control making her tires create a loud screeching noise as Selena punched down on the brakes with her foot. Her car slid down a small hill hitting a light pole head on, making her car come to a complete dead stop.
The driver almost lost control of their car when it pushed Selena’s car off the road. To gain control, the driver was able to make their car stop in the middle of the street at an angle. The driver rolled down their tinted window. As the window rolled down, Cindy, the driver, could feel the air hit her face. Cindy smiled when she saw Selena’s car hit the light pole head on. Cindy noticed Selena’s car was smoking from under the hood and there was no movement inside. Cindy felt that her goal was accomplished.
Just as she was about to drive off, Cindy turned her head to the left and saw an oncoming car speeding down the road heading straight for her. Cindy quickly registered in her mind that no matter what she did with her car, she was about to be hit. She screamed throwing her hands up to prepare for the impact. At full speed, the oncoming car crashed into the side of Cindy’s car, where she sat, with a hard colossal impact at the sounds of shattering glass and heavy metal crashing together.
