Chapter 3 ~ Year 2011 (present time)
“Oooh, this hotel nice! Damn girl, your high school must have had some serious money to afford to put you guys in a hotel like this!” Raven gleamed with excitement as they walked into the luxurious hotel lobby. Raven smiled and pointed as they walked past a water fountain in the middle of the lobby with little ducks swimming in the pool of the fountain. “Girrrl, my high school sure as hell could never afford anything like this. Wow. Do you see anyone you know yet?” Raven asked as she continued to wave and smile at the people walking by her as if she knew them.
“Nope, and will you stop acting like you’re a celebrity?” Sabrina giggled.
“Girl, I am a celebrity! I thought you knew?” Raven stated as she primped herself in the reflection of the mirrored walls.
Sabrina shook her head and walked up to the reception desk. “Hi. Sabrina Cain, plus one guest for rooming under Northside High School Class of 2001 Ten Year Reunion.”
The receptionist smiled as she looked up her name. “Ahh, yes. I have you on the 10th floor, room 1024. Here are your double keys.” She stated as she handed her the hotel keys.
Sabrina thanked her and they proceeded to go to their hotel room while two bellboys helped with their bags. Raven felt one of the bellboy’s arm thru his uniform and gleamed with excitement, “Oh, you’re so muscular and strong. We like that!” Raven giggled flirtatiously.
Sabrina smiled and shook her head at her friend.
The bellboy, who looked to be of Hispanic decent, blushed and thanked her. Sabrina thanked the men in Spanish and gave them a tip.
As the two friends entered into the hotel room, Raven’s eyes went wide with amazement. She couldn’t believe how nice their room was and the view they had from their hotel room window. “Oh my God, Brina, do you see this view, girl? Holy moley…I think Im going to love this vacation here! Girl look at the pool down below!” Raven continued on as her voice trailed off with excitement exploring their hotel room.
“It’s absolutely beautiful.” Sabrina smiled and searched for her camera to take a picture.
“Whew! I am beat! Who would think the flight from Atlanta to Orlando would wear me out?” Raven said in a bubbly tone.
“You certainly don’t sound tired.” Sabrina giggled as she carried her bags over to her queen size bed. “This is a nice room, Raven. I wonder how did they afford this stuff? I don’t recall our senior dues being enough to afford this kind of luxury.”
“Girl, who knows, and who cares! I’m in love with this bed! And its all mine!” Raven shrieked as she plopped on her queen size bed.
Sabrina shook her head and laughed at her friend. She then picked up a piece of paper with the reunion agenda. “Well, don’t get too used to it, Rave. We have to be downstairs in the lobby in a couple of hours to register at the welcome dinner.”
“You mean, you have to go. Im going to that little bar I saw down stairs and get me a drink.” Raven said sitting up on her bed.
Sabrina widened her eyes in shock. “What? I thought you came here to be with me and do all these festivities together…with me!”
“Oh yea. I did say that, huh?” Raven said as if she had forgotten. Sabrina shook her head yes to remind her. “Oh, alright. Well let me get beautified and we can be on our way.” Raven said making herself comfortable on her pillow. “Wake me up in 30-45 minutes.”
Sabrina smiled and sat down on her bed as she looked down at the agenda for the reunion festivities for the week.
Tonight: 8:00pm – Welcome Dinner (semi formal attire)
Saturday: 11:00am – 3:00pm – Luncheon (Family Friendly)
Saturday: 8:00pm – 2:00am – Party Time at Pleasure Island!
(Free V.I.P admissions at ‘BET Soundstage Club’ & ‘Mannequins Dance Palace Club ONLY!)
Sunday: 10:30am – 12:30am – Brunch Banquet
Sunday: 1:00pm – 3:00pm – Pick up Farewell Ten Year Reunion Gifts (Conference Room)
Sabrina thought about her wardrobe she packed. She figured a simple dress would suffice for the Welcome Dinner that night. Sabrina looked disappointed when she read about the luncheon on Saturday. If she had known it was family friendly, she would have brought her son, Cody. She would love for everyone to meet her handsome son.
Sabrina sighed and laid down on her bed lying back with the agenda still in her hand. She thought about Nick Lancaster. ‘What if he’s not even going to be here?’ Sabrina thought. She wondered if her whole trip here would be a waste if he didn’t show up. ‘Besides…I only wanted to know what he looks like now.’ Sabrina thought to herself.
“Oh my gosh!!! Look at you!! You haven’t changed a bit in 10 years!” a woman shrieked loudly in the hotel hall way.
Sabrina turned her head toward the door. It was obvious it was one of her former high school classmates. She wasn’t able to pick up on the voice, but the people outside her door were happy to see each other. ‘Would everyone be happy to see me? Would they even remember me?’ Sabrina thought. Sabrina sighed out of frustration and looked over at Raven who was sleeping peacefully in her bed. “I can’t believe she dragged me here. I can’t believe im here for a freaking class reunion with the people from my high school I never liked.” Sabrina said softly to herself. Sabrina raised the agenda list in her hands to review it once more. “If tonight doesn’t go well, we can forget it. Im not going to this other crap.”
Sabrina sat up and reached for her cell phone. She dialed her father’s home number.
“Nope, and will you stop acting like you’re a celebrity?” Sabrina giggled.

Sabrina's son, Cody
“Hello?” answered her son Cody.
“Hi sweetie! Whatcha doing?”
“Hi, mom! Nothing. Sitting here eating popcorn with Aunt Kelly.”
“Cool. Are you behaving yourself?”
“Yeppers!”
Sabrina smiled, “Awesome! Where is your grandfather?”
“I think he’s sleep…” Cody then spoke to the person in the background away from the phone. “…is grandpa sleeping, Aunt Kelly?”
Sabrina could faintly hear her aunt speaking in the background.
Cody then returned to speaking directly into the phone, “…oh nevermind, mom…he’s up. You wanna speak to him?”
“Yes, please…and hey! I love you!”
“Love you too!”
There was a long pause of silence until Sabrina heard her father speaking on the phone. “Hello?”
“Hi dad, I made it to the hotel.”
“Good. Have you seen that young man yet?”
Sabrina slightly rolled her eyes when she realized who he was speaking of. He was talking about Nick Lancaster. “No, dad. I promise I will let you know as soon as I do.” Sabrina responded with sarcasm.
“Good…good.” Sabrina could hear the smile in his voice. He continued, “Well have fun, sweetie, because we are. We’ll talk to you later.”
Sabrina agreed. She said she loved him and ended the call.
Sabrina shook her head and smiled thinking about her father. It was evident that he was ready for her to finally have that someone special in her life. He seem to be interested in having Nick Lancaster as her ‘special someone’.

Chapter 4 ~ Year 1993
Nicholas (Age 10)
Dean Cain walked to the front door once he heard the doorbell ring. On the other side stood Nicholas Lancaster. “Hey, Happy Saturday, Nicholas.”
“Hi Mr. Cain. Is Sabrina here?” Nicholas asked looking up at Sabrina’s father.
“No, son, not yet. She and her mother went to go pick up Taylor." Nicholas looked sad and disappointed. Dean smiled at the sight. “C’mon in. Make yourself at home while you wait.” He opened the door wider for Nicholas to enter. Nicholas smiled and walked inside. “Can I get you some strawberry pancakes?”
Nicholas sat down at the kitchen table and looked at Mr. Cain with a confused expression. “But... it’s not morning.” “Oh, nonsense. Your stomach doesn’t know what time of the day it is. So…do you want some or not?” Dean smiled convincingly.
Nicholas shrugged his shoulder, “Okay. Sure.”
“Ahh…my man!” Dean exclaimed. At that he proceeded to make the pancakes.
Nicholas cleared his throat and fumbled with his thumbs as he propped them on top of the table. “Mr. Cain…”
Sabrina’s father had his back toward Nicholas as he continued to beat the pancake batter. “Yes, Nicholas?”
Nicholas cleared his throat once again. “May I ask for your marriage in your daughter’s hand?”
Dean paused and chuckled to himself. He knew that what he meant to say was ‘may I ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage.’ He poured the pancake mix into the pan and turned around to look at Nicholas with a smile. He folded his arms and leaned against the kitchen counter. “Are you asking me, what I think you’re asking me?”
Nicholas sat up straight in his chair. “Yes sir.”
Dean walked up to Nicholas and pulled out a chair from the table and sat down. “Are you in love with my daughter, Sabrina?”
“Love? Well..I know I like her a lot. Love? I guess…sir.”
“Son, do you know what love is?”
“Uhm…I think so.”
“Can you support my daughter?”
“Uhm…I think…so.” Nicholas said starting to get more nervous and scared.
“Do you know how to protect her when Im not around?”
“Well…yes, sir. I – uh- I think.” Nicholas paused and scratched his head. “Well…what do you mean? You’re always going to be around…right?”
Dean smiled and ruffled his fingers in Nicholas’s long curls. “Tell you what, son. When you can answer those questions with confidence, you come back and talk to me. Until then…you remain a kid.”
Nicholas looked down with disappointment. “Yes sir.”
Dean laughed as he returned back to the stove to finish making the pancakes.
Moments later, Sabrina and her mother walked into the house. However Sabrina’s eyes and nose were red and looked as if she had been crying. “Hey! Why the long face?” Dean asked loudly. Sabrina didn’t respond, she walked straight past her father and sat down at the kitchen table next to Nicholas resting her chin on the back of her hands.
“Hi Mr. Cain. Is Sabrina here?” Nicholas asked looking up at Sabrina’s father.

Sabrina didn’t respond, she walked straight past her father and sat down at the kitchen table next to Nicholas resting her chin on the back of her hands.
Teri walked in and gave her husband a small kiss on the lips before responding. “Her little best friend, Taylor, had got into some trouble and her parents said she could no longer come over for the weekend. So, Brin is just a little upset right now.”
“What kind of trouble?” Dean curiously asked.
“Babe, her mother said she was caught stuffing her little training bra with plums and she had stolen red lipstick putting it in her little jeans pocket. Honey, she’s ten years old.” Teri said in disbelief of Taylor's behavior.
Dean chuckled and shook his head at the thought. Teri then turned her attention to Nicholas sitting at the table. “Nicholas! Hi, sweetie. What are you doing over here? Do your parents know you’re here?”
“Yes, ma’am. They were starting to fight again, so they told me to come over here to see if it was okay with you guys if I stayed here for about an hour. You know, until they settled everything at home.” Nicholas responded twiddling his thumbs.
“Oh, okay.” Teri said with a smile and returned her attention back to her husband. “Pancakes for dinner?”
“For a snack. You want some?” he said with a flirtatious smile.
“No thank you, honey.” She giggled and walked back out the door to get something from her car.
“Well I know who does! How about it sweetie pie!” he said smiling at Sabrina trying to make her feel better. Dean fixed two plates full of strawberry pancakes for both Sabrina and Nicholas. Just as he placed their plates in front of them on the table, Teri yelled out for him. “Honey! Can you help me get some things out of the car?”
Dean turned his attention to the kids at the table saying, “Eat up, kids…I’ll be right back.” He smiled and dipped out of the door.
Nicholas and Sabrina sat quietly as they began eating their pancakes. Nicholas dug into his cargo pants and pulled out a few daisy flowers that were now bent and slightly withered from being in his pocket. He placed the daisies on the table and pushed it over toward Sabrina. “Here.” He said flatly and continued eating his pancakes.
“What’s this for?” Sabrina asked looking at Nicholas.
“Its for you.”
Sabrina looked at the withered daisies. “For what? What am I supposed to do with them?”
“My dad said you always give a girl flowers…so, I gave you flowers.” Nicholas said with his mouth full of pancakes.
Sabrina shrugged her shoulders and looked around for something to give him. She then hopped up and ran upstairs to her room.
Moments later, Sabrina sat back down at the table and handed Nicholas a piece of paper.
Nicholas picked it up and saw that it was one of her drawings.
Ever since they were in the 2nd grade, Sabrina had taken a liking to art. Her drawings were still remedial since she was only 10 years old, but it was something Sabrina knew she would get better and better with more practice. The drawing she gave Nicholas was one of many of her animal drawings.
“You’re giving this to me?” Nicholas asked.
“Yep.” Sabrina said grabbing the syrup to pour more on her pancakes.
“I can’t take this.”
“Why not?”
“My dad said guys give girls a gift. But if you let the girl give you a gift, you’re forever at her mercy.”
Sabrina scoffed. “At her mercy? That doesn’t make any sense. That’s so dumb.”
“It is not.” Nicholas argued taking offense that she was calling his father dumb.
“Yes...it is.”
“No it’s not!” Nicholas said getting upset.
“Yeah…it is.”
"Take it back.”
“Take what back?”
“Calling my father dumb.”
“I didn’t call your father dumb.” Sabrina argued back with a frown.
“Yes you did.” Nicholas said clearly upset.
“No I didn’t!”
“Yes, you –“
“Hey! What are you two going at it about?” Dean asked as he carried in some boxes with Teri walking in close behind him.
“Sabrina called my father dumb!” Nicholas said frowning at Sabrina.
“I did not!” Sabrina snapped back.
“Okay, you two. I swear you would think you two were brother and sister.” Teri sighed putting her hands on her hips.
“But mommy, I didn’t call his father dumb.”
“You might as well have.” Nicholas shot back at Sabrina.
“Sabrina, did you call his father dumb?” Teri asked trying to resolve the issue at hand.
“No.” Sabrina protested.
“Nicholas,” Teri continued looking at Nicholas, “Did Sabrina really call your father dumb?”
“Well…she might as well have…” Nicholas responded looking down at his half empty plate.
“See, I –“
Teri raised her hand up to interrupt Sabrina. “Nicholas, Im sure whatever she said she didn’t mean it. Am I right, Brin?”
“Yes.” Sabrina said softly.
“Great. Now, Nicholas, if we keep up these antics Im going to have to send you home. Would you like to go home?” Teri asked sweetly.
Nicholas looked up at Sabrina. “If you guys want me to go home, I will.”
Sabrina felt bad for the boy. She knew his parents haven't been getting along for a while at his home and for him, to be there at her house was like his home away from home. “Can he stay, mom?”
Teri smiled. “Yes…but you two better behave yourselves.”
“Yes ma’am.” Both Sabrina and Nicholas said in unison with a smile looking at each other.
At that Teri turned and walked out of the kitchen.
“Wanna go watch 'Doug'?” Sabrina asked speaking of the hit cartoon show on the Nickelodeon channel.
“Yeah!” Nicholas smiled and hopped up from the table with excitement.
