Chapter 11 ~ Year 2011 (present time from this point forward)
Sabrina stepped out of the shower with a towel wrapped around her body. She began drying her long dark hair using the hotel’s blow dryer. She opened the bathroom door to find her friend Raven waking up from her nap. She yawned saying, “What time is it?”
Sabrina looked at the clock. “Ten minutes to seven.” She responded as she gathered her personal belongings together.
“What?! Girl, you know it takes me forever to get my beautiness dressed! Why didn’t you wake me up earlier?” Raven said getting out of bed.
“Oops.” Sabrina said sarcastically.
“Oops? Are you trying to slow around so you don’t go to that welcome dinner tonight?” Raven said getting her dress out to iron.
“Maybe.”
“Girl, what is really going on? Who are you trying to avoid? Or is it that you are just nervous to see this certain somebody?”
Sabrina plopped down sitting on her bed and pouted. She then smirked as Nick flashed thru her mind. Then the other memories flashed thru her mind and her expression went blank. “Maybe…all the above.”
Raven slammed the iron down on the ironing board and stared at Sabrina. “Alright, that’s it. Spit it out! Who is it? A male or female?”
Sabrina didn’t respond, she only stared back at Raven.
“Okay, so it’s definitely a male.”
Sabrina laughed. That’s why Raven was her best friend. She could read her so well without even saying a word.
“Now is this an ex-boyfriend? A bully? A guy you forever had a crush on since only God knows when?”
Sabrina looked down and remained quiet.
“Brin…Im you’re girl. You know you can tell me anything.”
Sabrina took a deep breath. “Okay. His name is Nick Lancaster. He was THE heartthrob of our high school and the star quarterback.”
“Ahhh, and you had a mad crush on him or did you guys date?”
“Oh no…we never dated...officially anyway.” Sabrina shook her head feverishly. Raven waited for her to continue. Sabrina continued, “We used to be really good friends…”
“Used to? Well, what happened? I mean how does a hot girl like yourself just be good friends with the star quarterback who’s the heartthrob of your high school.” Raven said in disbelief as she continued to iron her dress.
Sabrina laughed as she stood up from her bed to get her underwear out from her bag. “Rave, how many times do I have to tell you, I was not the ‘hot’ girl in high school.”
“Perfect! All the more reason to go to this dinner tonight and show those bastards what a hot tamali you turned out to be…oh la la!” Raven gleamed with excitement.
Sabrina laughed as she turned her back toward Raven to put on her strapless black bra. Raven placed the iron and the ironing board back to its original place and gathered her personal belongings so she could take a shower. “Now, come in this bathroom with me and tell me all about this guy named Nick while I take a shower.”
“Raven, there’s nothing to tell. He’s just a guy…”
“Then you tell me why the hell you are so nervous about him? Is there something you’re not telling me?” Raven asked suspiciously narrowing her eyes at Sabrina just before going into the bathroom.
Sabrina grabbed her makeup bag clutching it against her body. “It’s nothing to be concerned about.” She smiled and playfully stuck her tongue out at Raven.
“You know what? You get on my nerves!” Raven joked. She stepped into the bathroom and asked, “So why aren’t you guys friends now? What happened?”
Once Raven turned on the shower and stepped inside, Sabrina made her way into the bathroom to begin applying her makeup. “It’s a long story.” She replied
“Honey, I got nothing but time and opportunity! Do tell! And start from the beginning! I don’t want to miss out on any details!” Raven spoke loudly over the shower water.
Sabrina smiled as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her smile slowly faded as the bad memories began to flood her thoughts. She sighed and took a deep breath telling Raven everything. Even when she was raped.

-------
“Ok, zip me up and Im ready to go.” Raven said to Sabrina as they prepared to leave their hotel room. Sabrina walked over and zipped her best friend up. Raven turned around and hugged Sabrina. “Let me tell you something, okay? If any of those bitches, and yes Im talking about both the women and the men…if they have anything to say about you or the negative things that happened in the past…” Raven then pointed down to her king size stiletto heel. She continued, “…I swear, I will kill a mutha fucka, do you understand me?”
Sabrina laughed at Raven and hugged her again with a warm embrace. She whispered to Raven, “I love you mamá.”
Raven giggled. “I love you too girl. But I am dead ass serious. In fact…I wish one of them would say something. I look cute tonite, but I ain’t scared to bring the Compton out of me, ya know!”
Sabrina laughed. “I know. That’s why I love you. But…if anything does go down, which I seriously doubt it will…let me try to handle it for myself.”
Raven smiled and threw her hands up in defense. “Okay. I will give you that. But I can’t promise anything. Now, let’s go….you look beautiful by the way.” Raven smiled as she walked out the door.
Sabrina thanked her.
As they walked down the hall and waited for the elevator, Raven turned to Sabrina saying, “I want you to point out every single prick who treated you wrong during high school.”
Sabrina agreed with a faint smile as she started to get really nervous. Sabrina was getting nervous not sure how she would handle the sight of Zack and his friends after everything that happened over their school years.
Walking off the elevator, Raven found herself giving everyone an evil look, wondering if they were one of the people who treated her best friend wrong for so many years. Sabrina and Raven walked up to a table in the hallway that sat three older women. “Don’t you two young ladies look beautiful tonight.” The woman in the middle said with a wide smile.
“Thank you darling.” Raven smiled from ear to ear primping herself.
“So what’s your name, honey?” the woman continued with a smile.
Sabrina giggled and responded, “Sabrina Cain, plus one guest –“
“Raven Ramone…please to meet ya.” Raven interrupted Sabrina.
The women gave them a name tag to wear and gave Sabrina a small package of paraphernalia from NorthSide High. As the two friends started to walk into the conference room, Raven was still trying to find a place on her dress to place her name tag.
“Uggh! This is so clashing with my outfit.”
They then walked into the large conference room and saw how beautifully decorated it was. Both Raven and Sabrina’s mouths dropped open in awe.
Sabrina laughed at Raven and hugged her again with a warm embrace. She whispered to Raven, “I love you mamá.”

“Dammmnnnn…” Raven stated slowly.
“It’s beautiful.” Sabrina added.
Noticing all of the chairs in the conference room, Raven leaned toward Sabrina and whispered, “Is the whole damn school coming tonight? There are a lot of chairs.”
Sabrina didn’t respond. Her eyes slowly looked around hoping to see the same brown eyes she had known for so many years during her childhood; Nick Lancaster. From what she could tell, he was not there yet. The room was filled with Sabrina’s classmates. Some people she recognized easily, however she never spoke to them in high school so going to say hi to them was not necessary for her.
“Okay girl. Where do you want to sit?” Raven asked interrupting Sabrina’s inner thoughts.
“Let’s just sit toward the back.” Sabrina said feeling uncomfortable.
Raven followed the lead of Sabrina as they walked toward the back of the room to sit at an empty table. At the table was a small program giving them info about the evening. Raven looked over the program. “Why are there speakers on the program? I mean, when do we eat and get our drink on? I need a drink.” Raven said with a slight attitude. She looked up and looked at Sabrina when she noticed how quiet she was. “Girl…are you okay?”
Sabrina took a deep breath. “So far.” Sabrina said with a light smile.
“We can leave if you want to? If you’re uncomfortable…”
“No. We’re here now…might as well get some free food.”
Raven gave Sabrina a comforting smile while rubbing her back. “Okay.”
“It’s beautiful.” Sabrina added.

Chelsea
“Sabrina?” said a female’s voice.
Sabrina and Raven both looked up to see who had approached them. Sabrina didn’t recognize the girl right away.
“Hi.” She hesitated.
The girl pointed to her name tag when she realized that Sabrina didn’t know who she was. “It’s me, Chelsea. Remember me? We had home room together, like every year since our last names were so much alike. Chelsea Caisson…well, now Im Chelsea Vanderpol. I just got married like 5 months ago.” The girl named Chelsea finally ended.
“Oh. Hi.” Sabrina stood up and hugged Chelsea. “Oh my gosh, you look so different.”
Chelsea laughed. “Well I hope that’s a good thing!”
“No, I mean yes, it’s a very good thing. You look beautiful.” Sabrina reassured her.
“Thank you! So, do you mind if my husband and I sit here with you guys? He’s in the bathroom right now.”
“Sure.” Sabrina said with a smile. She then introduced Chelsea to Raven as they greeted each other.
“This is just beautiful here isn’t it?” Chelsea said looking around. Both Sabrina and Raven agreed.
Raven leaned over to Sabrina and whispered, “See. I thought you said no one would remember you.”
Sabrina slightly rolled her eyes at her friend as she smiled.
“So, do you keep in touch with these folks?” Chelsea asked Sabrina.
“No. I pretty much moved on from high school.”
“Do you have facebook?”
“No.” Sabrina simply answered.
“Well…allow me to fill you in on everyone. Everyone has facebook now a days. And you can pretty much keep up with everyone’s business.” Chelsea responded.
As she continued to speak, Raven rolled her eyes at how much the girl was talking. She leaned over and whispered to Sabrina, “Who in the hell left the gate open for this chick? Does she ever shut-up?”
Sabrina snickered trying to hold in her laughter and not be rude to Chelsea.
Seconds later, Sabrina’s eyes reverted back to the doorway just in time to see Taylor and Victoria side by side laughing and talking. Sabrina’s smiling expression quickly disappeared at seeing them. Her expression went glum when she saw Jacob and Zack walk in behind them.
“Well, don’t look now, but here come the bitches from the mighty dolphin cheerleadering squad.” Chelsea said as she leaned back in her chair.
Raven sat forward to look at Chelsea. “Who are they?”
“Taylor and Victoria…” Sabrina answered flatly.
“And their significant others.” Chelseas answered interrupting Sabrina.
Sabrina snapped her head at Chelsea. “Significant others?”
“Yeah…you didn’t know?” Sabrina waited for Chelsea to continue. “Oh that’s right you don’t have facebook. “Well…Taylor married Zack, and Victoria and Jacob are just sex buddies…Or so I heard. She claims they are boyfriend/girlfriend…but Jacob won’t claim her. I think it’s sad personally.” Chelsea lightly giggled and shook her head at the same time.
“Is that the Taylor…your friend from childhood?” Raven asked Sabrina.
“Yeah.” Sabrina answered slowly as she kept her eyes on Zack and Taylor. “I can’t believe she married him.” Sabrina said softly. “Yep..they’ve been married now for about a year or two I think. They have a son. I can’t remember what the child’s name is, but everyone says they only got married because she was pregnant. Tsk, go figure, right?” Chelsea said as she kept her eyes on Taylor and the group she walked in with. She then turned her attention to Sabrina. “So did you get married and have kids too?”
“Oh no…I never got married.”
“But she has a beautiful son named Cody. He is cute as a button.” Raven volunteered.
Sabrina smiled at her friend giving her a silent ‘thank you’.
“Aw, how cute.” Chelsea responded.
Chelsea proceeded to ask Sabrina about the age of Cody and what he looked like. At that time Chelsea saw her husband walk thru the door laughing and talking to some other guys walking in with him.
“Oh, there he is. Honey!” Chelsea waved her arms for her husband to see her.
Sabrina and Raven turned their attention to see who Chelsea was waving to. Sabrina saw a guy she never seen before walking in with two familiar faces she hoped to have never seen again in her life. Roger and Paul. Sabrina’s eyes went wide with shock. She quickly snapped her head at Chelsea and asked, “Wait…Which one is your husband?”
Sabrina and Raven both looked up to see who had approached them. Sabrina didn’t recognize the girl right away.

Part II
Edward
Chelsea turned to look at Sabrina with a puzzled expression. “Edward. Why? Do you know him?”
The man who Sabrina didn’t know caught Chelsea’s eye and began to walk over toward their table while Zack rushed up to his brother Roger and his friend Paul. Sabrina wondered why or what were they doing there. This wasn’t their class reunion. This wasn’t the class of 1998 ten year reunion. ‘Why were they here?’ Sabrina kept wondering to herself as her eyes followed Zack, Roger and Paul to the table with Taylor, Victoria and Jacob.
“Brin, what’s up? Are you okay?” Raven asked noticing Sabrina’s behavior had changed. Sabrina quickly snapped out of her thoughts and nodded yes. Chelsea proceeded to introduce her husband to both Sabrina and Raven.
The room was starting to really fill up. There were only 6 to a table and Sabrina still had two empty chairs at her table. It was obvious that no one had made eye contact with Sabrina yet. However, Sabrina kept finding herself glancing over at their table. She was beginning to feel that her being there was a big mistake. She hadn’t even seen Nick yet. Maybe he wasn’t coming. Sabrina glanced over at Taylor’s table once again when she noticed both Roger and Paul whispering as they looked directly at her. Sabrina’s heart started to beat faster and body began to slightly tremble as that frightful night when she was 14 years old resurfaced in her memory.
Raven noticed Sabrina slightly trembling. She placed her hand on Sabrina’s forearm. “Brin? Girl what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
Sabrina planted a fake smile on her face when she looked at Raven trying to reassure her that she was okay.
“Who is it? Is it Taylor that’s making you trip?” Raven asked as she turned to look at Taylor’s table with her eyes narrow glaring at them. Sabrina cleared her throat, and scooted her chair back away from the table. “Uhm..I’ll be right back.” Sabrina quickly hopped up from the table and scurried out of the large conference room.
Chelsea watched Sabrina rush out of the room and asked Raven, “Is she okay?”
“I don’t know, but Im about to find out.” Raven quickly hopped up to follow Sabrina out.
As Sabrina walked out of the conference room she bumped into someone almost knocking them over. “Oh! Im so sorry.” Sabrina said to the woman.
“No, no…Im sorry.”
The two women took a second look at each other.

The two women took a second look at each other.
Kyla
“Sabrina?”
“Kyla?” Sabrina asked taking a look at the woman she bumped into.
“Yeah, it’s me…oh my gosh! Hi!” the woman now identified as Kyla responded.
The two embraced each other.
“I should have known it was you, you haven’t changed at all.” Sabrina smiled pulling away from her.
“Sabrina, you look so pretty!”
At that moment, Raven walked out of the conference room and saw Sabrina laughing and talking. She figured she was okay and decided to walk back to their table in the conference room.
“Are you here with … what was his name?” Sabrina asked Kyla thinking of her boyfriend from back when they were in high school.
“Oh you mean, Arnez? Uh – no. I can’t stand that bastard.” Kyla laughed. She continued, “I had three of his kids and he never married me. So I had to move on.”
Sabrina looked at Kyla and saw how she was in such good shape to have had 3 kids. “Wow…three kids? You look good girl.”
Kyla smiled extensively. “Thank you! You know I try.”

Mrs. Swanson
Before the two could continue their conversation, they heard a female voice say to them, “Now how is it that I run into two of my favorite art students?”
Sabrina and Kyla turned around to see Mrs. Swanson.
“Mrs. Swanson!” Both Sabrina and Kyla exclaimed as they embraced her.
“Oh my goodness, you two look so good!”
“Thanks Mrs. Swanson! You haven’t aged at all!” Kyla said in her bubbly tone as Sabrina agreed.
“Im so happy to see you both. Too bad Kristen couldn’t be here with us.”
“Kristen Stewart? Why? What happened?” Sabrina asked slightly confused.
“You didn’t hear? She died in a car accident like three years ago.” Kyla informed Sabrina.
Sabrina raised her hand up to her lips in shock. “Oh no. Im so sorry to hear that.”
“Yes. It is very sad. They included her in the memorandum tonight. C’mon we should head back inside, I think they are about to start the program.” Mrs. Swanson informed them with a comforting smile.
“Hey, where are you sitting? Do you have an extra seat at your table? I left my kids at the hotel, so Im alone tonight. Im sitting with a bunch of lame people at my table.”
Sabrina laughed. “Sure you can sit with me at my table.”
Sabrina lead her back into the conference room. In that instant, Sabrina had forgotten about everyone at Taylor’s table. Sabrina had gained her confidence back.
Sabrina introduced Raven to Kyla, and Chelsea introduced her husband to Kyla. The program was starting and a few stragglers started file into the conference room. That’s when Sabrina saw him. It was Nicholas Lancaster. He walked in with their former classmate, Liam, and two other females. Taylor’s table, along with another table full of former football players, made a loud cheer for Nick and Liam. Sabrina guessed it was a thing between the football players. Nick and Liam had a wide smile across their faces as they made their way over toward Taylor’s table. Even though their table was fully occupied, they all seem to grab more chairs for Nick, Liam and their female guests to sit in the same area. Sabrina noticed how Nick was escorting one of the females by his side. She couldn’t help but realize that it must have been Nick's wife or girlfriend with him. Sabrina sighed with disappointment.
She then leaned over to Raven saying, “That’s Nick Lancaster.”
Raven looked over at Taylor’s table and saw Nick. “He’s fine! Dayum.” Raven started to snicker.
Sabrina smiled and silently agreed. Nick hadn’t changed much at all in 10 years. 'He definitely looked more manly', Sabrina thought to herself. He looked so handsome, Sabrina thought. Whoever the girl that's with him, was definitely a lucky girl.
“I see the mighty dolphins football team are happy to see their 'quarterback' and 'running back' in the house tonight.” Mr. Clark, the principal stated into the microphone with a chuckle as he stood at the podium in the front of the room. This made the group at Taylor's table rowdy once again and cheering with laughter as the rest of the room joined in the joyous laughter.
Raven looked at Sabrina and stuck her finger in her mouth as if she wanted to gag herself and vomit, indicating that the group at Taylor’s table were overrated.
Sabrina couldn’t help but laugh at her friend.
As the principal continued to speak, carrying on with the program, Nick settled himself at the table and began looking around. Instantly he laid his eyes upon Sabrina across the room. He saw her smiling and laughing with the group at her table. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. He thought she looked absolutely stunning.
Sabrina felt like someone was watching her. She slowly turned her attention back over toward Taylor’s table and made eye contact with Nick. They seem to stare at each other for eternity. Sabrina gave Nick a small smile and looked away. Nick smiled back at her, keeping his eyes on her.

Taylor felt Zack’s arms wrap around her shoulder as she leaned into him. Taylor saw Nick had his attention elsewhere. She followed his gaze and saw Sabrina. She was almost stunned to see Sabrina there. Although, it shouldn’t have been a surprise. After all, it was their class reunion.
“Girl…your boy is staring at you. I think you are making him drool.” Raven teased Sabrina.
Sabrina shyly darted her eyes back over at Nick and sure enough he was still looking at her. Sabrina looked away and nervously adjusted herself in her seat with a smirk on her face. “I’m all of a sudden feeling really nervous.” Sabrina quietly admitted to Raven.
“For what? You don’t have a reason to. You look amazing.”
“Just…whatever you do, please don’t leave my side tonight.”
“Girrrl…you know I got you. Im not going anywhere.”

“Alright…we’re going to allow everyone to get their food. We will call out each table number for you to get in line. Once everyone is settled…we will watch a slide show. A view of the blast from the past. Let’s eat everyone!” Macy, the former senior class president, said after giving a small introductory speech.
Unfortunately Sabrina’s table was almost called last since they were in the back of the conference room. Once their table was called, Raven pulled Sabrina’s hand making a dash to the buffet table outside of the conference room.
As they stood in line, people were talking and reminiscing. Chelsea was still talking everyone’s ear off. Sabrina then noticed Nick coming straight toward her. Was he looking at her? She wondered.
Nick smiled at Sabrina.
Sabrina smiled back still not sure if he were coming toward her or not.
Nick stepped right up to Sabrina and pulled her into a gentle hug. He squeezed her, genuinely happy to see her. He whispered in her ear, “Hey Bri-bear.”
This sent chills thru out Sabrina’s body. It was nice to know he was happy to see her and still remembered the nick name he used to call her. Sabrina could feel his muscular physique thru his white shirt and she could smell the scent of his cologne. She welcomed his embrace as she lightly patted and rubbed his back. “Hi Nicholas.”
Raven did nothing but smile from ear to ear to see her friend so happy.
Like the popular guy that he was always known to be, he didn’t want to leave out Kyla and Chelsea. He hugged them when greeting them. Both girls welcomed his heartfelt embrace. “How is everyone doing?” Nick asked mainly looking at Sabrina.
“Awesome! Nick, this is my husband, Edward.” Chelsea responded.
Nick happily greeted Edward with a firm handshake. Nick then looked at Kyla. “Hey, where’s my boy, Arnez?”
“Hell, if I know. I could really care less about that man.”
Nick laughed. “Okay, I guess you can tell me about that later.”
Kyla laughed and agreed.
The whole time Nick spoke to Chelsea and Kyla, he was holding on to Sabrina’s hand. He then turned his attention back to Sabrina. “Looking good. How have you been?”
“Good. Really good, thanks. Hey, I want you to meet a really, really good friend of mine, Raven.”
“Hey! How you doin’?” Raven jumped in front of Sabrina speaking in her best Wendy Williams imitation, the talk show host.
Nick gently shook her hand with a smile. “Nice to meet you.”
“Mm-hmm, likewise..likewise.” Raven said with a smile taking her place back in the line.
Nick gazed back into Sabrina’s eyes with a smile. “We have so much catching up to do. How’s your dad?”
“Uhm…yeah, I’ll tell you about it later. We definitely have a lot to catch up on."
“Whoa! Damn..Sabrina?” It was Jacob walking up to the small group. His eyes quickly roamed up and down Sabrina’s body. “Damn girl…you are all grown up.” Jacob continued reaching out to hug Sabrina.
Sabrina barely returned the hug.
Raven glared at Jacob making sure he kept his ground.
“Careful, you don’t want her boyfriend or husband to see you up on his girl like that.” Nick said gently tugging Jacob’s arm away from around Sabrina.
Sabrina laughed and was slightly relieved Nick pulled him away from her.
“Oh, that’s so true. I have a life to live, I can’t afford to die tonight.” Jacob smirked still looking at Sabrina as if she were a piece of steak. “Yep. So, is he here?” Nick asked.
Sabrina giggled lightly and responded, “Uhm…actually I’m not married nor do I have a boyfriend.”
Nick was happy to hear the news. Jacob was relieved and continued to make his advances to Sabrina. However, he was stopped short when Raven jumped in between them.
“Right, but Im her man tonight Casanova, so back up.” Raven said to Jacob with an attitude rolling her neck.
Jacob held up his hands and took a few steps back slightly stunned.
Sabrina and Raven laughed. She then wrapped her arms around Raven’s shoulder. “That’s right. Sorry to disappoint.”
“Jacob.” Everyone turned to see Victoria standing a few feet away from them. Her arms were crossed in front of her as she glared at Jacob. “You better go. You’re girl is calling you.” Raven shoo’ed him away.
Jacob smirked and shook his head as he walked away toward Victoria.
The line started to move up where they were able to begin fixing their plates. Nick stuck by Sabrina’s side. “Are you here for just the weekend or are you staying here in Orlando a little longer for the vacation?”
“We have plane tickets to go home on Tuesday…but who knows, we may go home earlier than that.”
“Well…I hope not.” Nick said flashing his dimples and winking at Sabrina. He then walked away.
Sabrina smiled and turned her attention back to the buffet line.
“Look at you…all giddy.” Raven snickered. “Good to see you smile like that.”
Sabrina playfully hit Raven’s arm.

After the program at the Welcome Dinner in the conference room, Sabrina and Raven decided to skip the little dance party afterwards. Instead they walked to the hotel bar to get more drinks before heading back up to their hotel room. They sat down at the bar and ordered their drinks from the bartender. “Are you sure you didn’t want to go dance with your classmates?” Raven asked as she primped her hair and settling into her high chair.
“Yes. I am very sure.” Sabrina said running her fingers thru her hair.
“Girrrl, let me tell you…if that little Victoria girl kept looking at us the way she did, I swear I would have slapped her from hell and back.” Raven said digging in her purse for her lip gloss.
Sabrina shook her head. “I didn’t really care. Let her look.” Sabrina paused to look around for a restroom. She then continued asking the bartender. “Excuse me, is there a restroom nearby?”
The bartender nodded his head and pointed to the rear of the lobby.
“Thanks.” Sabrina excused herself to the restroom leaving Raven alone at the bar.
Sabrina walked into the clean, marble restroom and walked into one of the stalls. When she was done, Sabrina walked out of the stall toward the sink to wash her hands. Sabrina wasn't paying attention to the other female standing at the sink until the woman called out her name.

Demi
“Sabrina?”
Sabrina looked up at the mirror and saw the woman’s reflection. “Demi?”
The woman identified as Demi smiled. “Hey.”
Sabrina finished washing her hands and gave Demi a hug. “You look so pretty.” Demi admitted to Sabrina.
“Thank you…so do you. How are you?”
“Im good. I didn’t see you at the Welcome Dinner.”
“I was in there. I was sitting toward the back.”
“Oh. I can’t blame you. Just the sight of every dick at that table just sent chills up and down my body, ya know?”
“You mean Taylor’s table?” Sabrina asked flipping her hair behind her shoulder.
Demi nodded yes.
“So. what have you been up to?” Sabrina asked placing her hands on her hip.
“Just work. No, Im not married yet. Seems like everyone has gotten married or had kids…but I didn’t do either.”
Sabrina laughed lightly. “Yeah…well I didn’t get married either. But I do have a kid. A son.”
“Nice. Congrats.” Demi said planting a fake smile on her face.
Sabrina could sense how uncomfortable she was getting as Demi stood there in what seem like she was in deep thoughts. Demi then asked, “Uhm…did you see Roger? Or speak to Zack …or anything?”
Sabrina took a deep breath. “Yes…I saw them all. But no, I haven’t spoken to neither of them. I don’t plan on it. I don’t understand why Roger and Paul are here anyway.”
“I know. I guess Zack invited them. He’s such an ass.”
“Did you come by yourself?”
“Uhm, well..no. I came with my sister, but she stayed at the hotel. We just came to have a good time and have a vacation.”
“Cool. I did the same with my best friend. Maybe we can all hang out while we’re here. If you want.”
Demi smiled.”I thought you would never ask.”
Demi and Sabrina walked out of the restroom laughing and talking. Sabrina introduced Demi to Raven once they walked up to the bar. They all laughed and talked having a great time.
“Well ladies, I should be going. My sister says she is bored.” Demi said gathering her belongings.
“You should have told her to come down and join us.” Raven said taking another sip of her mojito drink.
“She doesn’t drink, she wouldn’t have had a good time. But I will see you guys tomorrow. Are you going to the luncheon?”
Sabrina looked at Raven as if to make a quick decision.
“It’s totally up to you.” Raven informed Sabrina.
“We probably wont. I don’t see a need to. I’ve seen everyone I wanted to see.”
“Cool. I wasn’t going either. We should totally go shopping or something.” Demi responded.
Raven and Sabrina joyfully agreed.
“Awesome. Im in room 7002. See you guys tomorrow!” Demi said rushing off.
Sabrina looked at her phone to see what time it was. "It’s late. Im sure everyone is probably getting ready to leave the little dance party and I don’t want to be down here when everyone starts walking up to their room."
“Not even Nick?” Raven asked nudging Sabrina's arm.
Sabrina smiled. “I think he’s taken. Didn’t you see that girl he was with?”
“I did. Maybe she’s just a friend.”
Sabrina shrugged her shoulders.
Raven continued, “Speaking of new friends. While you were in the restroom, I met someone.”
Sabrina’s eyes widened. “Who?”
“A very nice and fine looking man. We exchanged numbers. I think he wants to take me out tomorrow. So if he calls…you ladies are on your own.”
“Are you really going to ditch me for some guy you just met?”
“Hey…I haven’t had sex in over six months. Girrrl it’s time I get me some.”
Sabrina laughed.
Both Sabrina and Raven walked back up to their room. Raven belly flopped on her bed while Sabrina kicked off her heels. “I think I drunk too much.” Raven groaned.
“You need some water.” Sabrina grabbed their ice bucket. “I’ll be right back. Heading off to the ice machine for some ice.”
Raven groaned into her pillow in response.
Sabrina smiled and shook her head as she opened the door.
Sabrina walked down the maroon carpeted hallway barefoot, still wearing her dress, carrying the ice bucket. Sabrina flipped her hair to the side as she yawned. Sabrina turned the corner where the ice machine and a couple of vending machines were sitting against the wall at a dead end. Sabrina stopped in her tracks when she saw her worst fear.
Sabrina looked up at the mirror and saw the woman’s reflection. “Demi?”

Part III
There he was standing there propped up against the vending machine as if trying to make a decision what he should get. Sabrina’s heart started to beat a mile a minute. Should she turn around and go back to her room or should she remain brave and face her fears? Sabrina quickly turned back around to go the opposite direction before the person could see her. Sabrina then stopped and made a realization. She was no longer 14 years old. She was an adult now and she refused to live in fear from this person or anyone else. Sabrina took a deep breath and proceeded to go back toward the ice machine. She could hear the person chuckle and his eyes burning into her.
“Well, well, well…” he said slowly.
Sabrina ignored him as she continued to quickly fill her ice bucket full of ice.
“Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes.” He smirked and proceeded to walk toward Sabrina.
Sabrina could feel him getting closer. Without making eye contact, Sabrina took her ice bucket full of ice and quickly turned to walk back towards her hotel room. Standing at the corner was her other worst fear. Sabrina stopped. She was now in the middle of Paul and Roger. Paul was standing at the corner with a devilish smile across his face and Roger proceeded to walk slowly up to Sabrina.
“I know this beauty from anywhere. The best piece of ass I ever had.” Paul sneered.
Roger chuckled.
Sabrina snapped her head back and forth from looking at Paul and Roger as she clutched the ice bucket closely to her chest. She suddenly lost all of her confidence as she found herself stuck between the two men who raped her at the tender age of 14. She wondered if Zack was going to be the next one to come around the corner. Sabrina’s fear turned into anger. She decided that she was not about to stick around and wait for Zack to come around the corner.
“Get away from me.” Sabrina muttered as she started to walk past Paul.
Paul blocked her as he jumped in front of her trying wrap his hands around her waist. “Whoa…where do you think you’re going?”
With all of her might, Sabrina swung the bucket of ice hard into Paul’s face making a loud whopping thud sound, forcing Paul to almost lose his balance. Paul groaned as he cursed holding his face in pain.
Before Sabrina could make a run for it, Roger rushed up behind her grabbing her waist. “Hey! Calm down!” Roger said as he struggled to hold on to Sabrina who was squirming her way out of his grip.
As she maneuvered her way out of his grip, she elbowed Roger hard in the jaw forcing him to bite his lip and start bleeding.
“HEY!” shouted another voice as Sabrina was able to get free from Roger.
Sabrina ignored the extra person and reached for the ice bucket on the ground ready to fight.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Sabrina relax…relax!”
Sabrina turned to see Nick.
“What’s going on?” Nick asked alarmed to see Roger now bleeding from his mouth.
“That bitch is crazy!” Paul said holding his now bloody nose.
“Crazy? I’ll show you crazy you nasty cock suckers! Don’t you EVER touch me again! EVER!”
“You need to chill out! No one was going to hurt you…” Roger claimed as he held his bleeding lip.
“And you will never ever hurt me again you fucking asshole!” Sabrina shouted as Nick stood in front of her trying to hold her back while protecting her at the same time from both Roger and Paul.
“Nick, she’s full of shit.” Paul added trying to claim his innocence.
“I think you guys are full of shit. I suggest you both leave.” Nick demanded firmly as he frowned at both Paul and Roger.
“You’re gonna believe her over us, Nick? Your boys?”
“Yeah…I am…” Nick said clenching his fists down at his sides. “Now get the hell out of here. I don’t want to see you guys messing with her again.”
Roger raised his arm and pointed at Nick. “You’ve changed, dude. You’ve changed.” He then gestured to Paul saying, “…let’s go.”
Nick followed them halfway up the hall to make sure they left the vending and ice machine area.
Nick turned around changing his expression to look more concerned as he reached out for Sabrina. “Are you okay?”
Sabrina ran her fingers thru her hair and placed her hand over her heart as if trying to calm her adrenaline rush. She nodded her head yes and finally replied, “Im fine. Thanks.”
Nick looked at Sabrina and noticed that she was still wearing her dress from the Welcome Dinner and she was barefooted. “What are you doing around here alone? Where is your friend, Raven?”
Sabrina proceeded to walk back over toward the ice machine and fill it back up with ice. “Well who knew it would be two dumb asses lurking around on the same floor as my hotel room. I thought I would be fine by myself. And I was fine by myself. I took care of them.”
Nick placed his hands on his waist and smiled as he continued to stare at his old friend. “Yeah, I can see that.”
Sabrina then walked up to Nick once she filled up her ice bucket. “But thanks for…standing up for me.” Sabrina gave him a light smile and walked around him to head back to her hotel room.
“Where’s your room? I’ll walk with you.”
Sabrina waited for him to catch up with her. They slowly walked back to her room in silence.
Once she reached her room she stopped and looked up at Nick. “This is me. My room.”
“Oh, okay. Uhmmm…” Nick stalled trying to find something to say.
Sabrina smiled as she looked into his handsome face. She couldn’t help but notice his manly physique. She adored him.
“So are you about to go to sleep?” Nick asked.
“Yeah, that’s kind of the plan. It’s been a long night.”
Nick looked disappointed.
“Well, isn’t that what you are about to do?”
“I guess I will have to now, since I have no one to talk to.” Nick chuckled.
Sabrina smiled and lightly bit her lip as she admired his smile and cute dimples. “Would you like to come in and talk?”
“Yes.” Nick replied almost too quickly.
They both laughed at his fast response.
“Okay. Im sure Raven is sleep but we can go out to the patio and talk.”
“Well, well, well…” he said slowly.
Sabrina ignored him as she continued to quickly fill her ice bucket full of ice.
“Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes.” He smirked and proceeded to walk toward Sabrina.

Sabrina lead Nick inside her room. Raven was still face down into her pillow and hadn’t moved an inch since she had left to get ice from the vending machine. Sabrina thru some extra covers over her friend and walked out to the small patio outside their room to join Nick. There were two chairs that seem to be there just for them. The light breeze in the air gave the night a nice crisp summer feel.
As soon as Sabrina took her seat, Nick started the conversation, “I don’t know why those two assholes are even here. Zack can’t seem to stand on his own two feet I guess.”
“Yeah, I guess. But I don’t care. I’ll just carry my mace with me at all times. But they are not going to ruin my time here, that’s for damn sure.” Sabrina said flipping her hair to the side with her fingers.
Nick gazed at her marveling her beauty. Nick thought she had grown into a stunning woman. He wondered what she had been up to over the past ten years. “So…” Nick said wanting to change the subject, “…you said you weren’t married or have a boyfriend, right? Were you ever married or anything?”
“No. I was never married and –“
“No boyfriend?” Nick interrupted her.
“No, not right now…no.”
“So, what do you do now? I mean where are you working?” Nick asked staring into her eyes.
“I actually still work at that same advertising company I started back when we were in high school.”
“No way, really?”
“Yep. I am the Creative Arts Director for a lot of the commercials you see on television. For example, have you ever seen that commercial about the SoBe drinks and there was a lizard involved?”
Nick nodded yes with a smile.
“That was me.” Sabrina smiled.
“That was your idea?”
“Yep. All me.”
“Nice! You go girl.”
Sabrina laughed. “Thanks.”
“How’s your dad? Your Aunt?”
“Oh Aunt Kelly is doing really good. She married a military guy who is currently overseas. But she is home with my dad taking care of him…” “Taking care of him? Is your dad still not doing well?”
Sabrina looked down as she sat sideways propping her legs halfway underneath her to rub her bare feet. “Yeah…remember when my dad was diagnosed with cancer a long time ago? Well, it went into remission. They said the cancer was gone. Now…years later, my dad’s cancer relapsed. The cancer came back and its been almost a year ago now that he is still fighting it. But as long as my son comes around and hangs out with him, I think my dad remembers how much he needs to fight the disease.”
Nick’s eyebrows raised at hearing she had a son. “A son? You have a son?”
Sabrina looked up at Nick not even realizing she had mentioned her son. She didn’t mean to tell him at that moment. Sabrina cleared her throat. “Yes. I have a son. He’s 8 years old. His name is Cody. He’s my angel.”
Nick smiled at the thought. “An eight year old son named Cody, huh?”
Sabrina nodded with a smile as she thought about Cody.
“So, do you mind me asking about his father? I mean…is he not in your life or …ya know…?” Nick asked uncomfortably hoping she didn’t mind that he was getting in her business.
“Josh? Oh no. He is so not in my life nor Cody’s life. I met Josh while in school when I went to the Art Institute. That's where I also met Raven. She was already working for the same advertising company as I, but we didn't meet until her department was holding a career function at my school. We clicked ever since. But anyway, Josh, Cody's father, was so freaking sweet to me. I thought I found my prince charming but as soon as I told him I was pregnant with his child…he dropped me like I was a bad habit. It hurt. But in time, with Raven's help, I got stronger and I felt like Cody and I didn’t need him in our lives. I realized how much men suck.” Sabrina ended with a light giggle.
Nick joined her in a light chuckle. He then looked at her seriously and said, “Not all men suck, Bri-bear.”
Sabrina gazed into his eyes as he sat across from her. She smiled at his sincerity and how sexy he looked while staring at her. Sabrina noticed he looked down at her legs and noticed her rubbing her own feet. He then scooted his chair a little closer to her and said, “Come…give me your foot.” He then gestured for her to lay her feet into his lap.
Sabrina frowned with confusement. “What?”
“Let me massage your feet.” He then reached for her legs.
Sabrina allowed him to grab her legs and place them on top of his lap. Nick slowly glided his hand around her ankles and cupped her heels in his hands. He began massaging her feet. Sabrina giggled. His massage felt good yet it tickled.
“Ticklish?” Nick asked with a smile.
“Just a little.” Sabrina smiled back at him. She then said softly, “This is weird.”
“Why?”
“You’ve never …given me a massage before. It’s just…weird.”
“Do you want me to stop?”
Sabrina shook her head no.
Nick chuckled as he continued to gently massage her feet.
They stared at each other in silence a little longer than Sabrina had expected for them to. It was all too weird for her; especially since he was massaging her feet. It was definitely something for her to get used to for that moment. She then realized that Nick had just given her the third degree about her life in the past 10 years. It was now time for her to start questioning him.
“So, tell me about you. What’s been up with you? Married? Kids? I heard you were supposed to go pro football. What happened?” “Yeah..well..shit happens. All thru college everything looked so promising. And then my senior year in college, in a game versus LSU, I got tackled and I tore my ACL. My career in football was robbed ever since. Football…over. Just like that.” Nick said as if he were reminiscing the moment in his head.
“Im so sorry.” Sabrina said softly.
“Like I said…shit happens.”
“So…what do you do now?”
"I work at a distribution warehouse in Gainesville. It’s no pro football money, but it pays the bills.”
“So you still live in Gainesville? You don’t want to come back to Atlanta?”
Nick paused and looked out into the city night of Orlando. He then replied, “Only if I have a reason to.” Nick said in a low husky tone as his stare burned into Sabrina’s eyes.
It actually sent goosebumps up and down her body. She felt a slight tingling sensation between her legs. Yes, Nick looked that sexy to her. Sabrina slowly pulled her feet away from Nick and stood up to walk over to the banister rail looking over the city. Nick hesitated at first but he followed her lead and stood next to her.
“It’s beautiful, right?” Sabrina said looking straight ahead.
“Yep.” Nick agreed.
There was a light breeze that blew into their faces as they stood overlooking the city. The wind blew thru Sabrina’s hair pushing a few strands into her face. Sabrina then felt Nick’s hand gently remove the hair from her face. Sabrina turned to look at him. She wished she could read his mind at that very moment.
Nick took a deep breath and then said, “I should probably be going.”
“Oh..okay.” Sabrina said slightly disappointed.
“But uhm…I will see you tomorrow at the luncheon right?”
“No.”
“What? You have to go. What do you mean you’re not going?”
Sabrina laughed at his utter shock. “Raven and I decided to skip it. I’ve seen everyone I wanted to see tonight. So there is no need for me to go. We’re just going to enjoy the city of Orlando.”
“But…I was hoping to see you again. I really want you to come. Be my date. I’ll make sure those assholes wont bother you.”
“Be your date?” Sabrina said with a puzzled expression.
Nick smiled. “Yeah. Is that a problem? I mean..what, friends can't go to a public event together?”
Sabrina shyly looked down and lightly bit her lip. “Can I think about it?”
“No.” Nick simply responded with a straight face.
Sabrina looked up at him in shock as her jaw dropped.
“C’mon, Brin. Just come. For me. Please?” Nick gave her his sad puppy dog eyes as he begged.
Sabrina smiled and rolled her eyes. “Okay. Fine.”
“Yessssss” Nick quietly cheered. “Okay. See you tomorrow Bri-bear.”
As Nick leaned in to give her a hug, he quickly gave her a peck on the cheek. Sabrina welcomed his embrace. Sabrina didn’t want to leave the comfort of his arms. Nick pulled away gazing into her eyes saying, "Good night.”
“Night.” Sabrina said and walked him out of their hotel room.
As soon as Sabrina took her seat, Nick started the conversation, “I don’t know why those two assholes are even here. Zack can’t seem to stand on his own two feet I guess.”

Chapter 12
Sabrina and Raven woke up to the loud ringing of the telephone. Startled by the noise, Sabrina popped up from under the covers and answered the phone in her groggy morning voice. “Hello?”
“Good morning! Is this Sabrina?”
Sabrina took her hand and wiped it over her face trying to wipe her sleepiness away. “Mm-hmm.” She responded.
“Hey, it’s me, Demi! Were you sleep?”
“Mm-hmm…”
“Oh. Sorry. I thought you guys would be up by now. It’s like 9:30am. Well anyway, my sister and I are going downstairs to the little restaurant and get some breakfast and then we’re off to go shopping. Are you and Raven still down for it?”
Sabrina looked over at Raven who looked like she had the worst hangover ever, as she slowly sat up in her bed. “Uhmm…Demi can we call you back?”
Demi agreed and gave Sabrina her cell phone number so she could call them once they were up and about.
Sabrina hung up the phone and looked over at Raven.
“What the hell? It’s not even 10am. Im on vacation…why am I waking up before 10am?” Raven said holding her head as if she had a migraine.
Sabrina chuckled as she pulled the strap of her tank top up over her shoulder. “I think im going to go to the luncheon today.”
Raven snapped her head over at Sabrina. “Really? You changed your mind? Why?”
Sabrina proceeded to tell her about the conversation her and Nick had last night while Raven was knocked out cold.
“That is awesome! I wish I was awake so I could have been eaves dropping!” Raven laughed loudly.
Sabrina threw her pillow over at Raven.
“So wait, I have a question. If he wants you to be his date, what about that chick he was with last night? Who was that?”
Sabrina raised her hand up to her lips. “Oh…I totally forgot to ask him.”
“How could you forget?!”
“I don’t know I was so wrapped up into everything else, I just forgot. But it must not be anything serious if he wants me to be his date, right?” Raven pulled the covers off of her and slowly climbed out of bed. “I dunno, Brin. Just don’t get your hopes up to high just yet.”
Sabrina took a deep breath hating that her friend was right.
At that moment, Raven received a text message allowing her phone to ring. Raven made a dash to her friend seeing that it was the guy she had met at the bar last night. While Raven was texting her new found fling, there was a knock at their door. Raven looked up and saying, “I thought you told Demi we would call her back? Why is she knocking at the door?”
Sabrina shrugged her shoulders as she hopped out of her comfortable bed wearing her short yellow shorts and black tank top. Without looking thru the peep hole, Sabrina opened her door. On the other side stood Nick with a smile. He was wearing their high school reunion t-shirt and blue jeans.
Sabrina gasped and quickly shut the door out of embarrassment. She stood against the door as she looked at Raven in shock.
“What? Who is it?” Raven inquired.
“It’s Nick!” Sabrina whispered loudly.
“So open the door girl!” Raven excitedly whispered back.
Sabrina quickly combed her hair with her fingers and straightened her clothes. She then cautiously opened the door hiding half of her body behind the door. “Hi.” Sabrina smiled trying to hide her embarrassment.
Nick smiled and lightly chuckled. “Too late, I now know what you look like in the morning…still beautiful.”
Sabrina raised her hand up to her face trying to cool her face that was now blushing red. “What are you doing here?”
“Breakfast?” Nick responded. He then pulled a bouquet of white daisies from around his back handing it to Sabrina.
Sabrina’s eyes widened in more shock.
“I tried to shop around for yellow daisies, but who would’ve thought that no one had any more yellow daisies.” Nick continued as he handed her the flowers.
Sabrina opened the door wider now exposing her whole body as she slowly took the flowers from Nick’s hand. Sabrina couldn’t believe it. She hadn’t received daisies from Nick since high school. Yet, he remembered.
“Good morning! Is this Sabrina?”
Sabrina took her hand and wiped it over her face trying to wipe her sleepiness away. “Mm-hmm.” She responded.

White Daisies
“Nick…Im…speechless.”
“Well you don’t have to say anything. Just get dressed and meet me downstairs at the restaurant for breakfast.” Nick then clapped his hands twice and said, “Chop, chop. Let’s go missy.” He smiled giving her a wink and walked away.
Sabrina slowly closed the door and rested her back against it. She looked at Raven still in shock.
“Girl! Shut. Up. Are you serious right now?” Raven shouted. She then screamed running up to Sabrina jumping up and down with excitement. Sabrina couldn’t help but laugh at how excited Raven was.
“Wait, this doesn’t mean anything…right?” Sabrina asked still slightly confused by what just happened.
“Well, hell girl, he didn’t give me flowers!” Raven laughed. “Soooo? What did he say?”
“He wants me to go down to the restaurant for breakfast.”
“Girl! Hurry up and get dressed! What are you stalling around for?” Raven said slightly pushing Sabrina toward the bathroom.
“Well what about you? Are you going to come down with me?”
Raven gave Sabrina a devilish smile and placed her hands on her hips. “Well…I have a date with Mr. Romeo from the bar last night. He said he wanted to take me out for breakfast.”
“Raven…” Sabrina said as if saying that she should be careful.
“I’ll be fine! You go take a shower and get ready for your breakfast date, while I try to find something to wear.”

Sabrina's Hair Style
Sabrina wore her blue denim cut off shorts with a brown belt, and her white t-shirt, designed with the logo of their high school reunion class of 2001, neatly tucked in. It was part of their paraphanelia given to them at the Welcome Dinner. They wanted all the alumni students to wear their t shirts to the luncheon that was going to be held outdoors. She put her hair into a ponytail and stuck one of the white daisy flowers, Nick had given her, right above her right ear into her hair.
As Sabrina slipped into her flip flops and said her goodbyes to Raven, she called her son and father. On her way down to the hotel restaurant, after speaking to her son, she told her father that she finally saw Nick. He was ecstatic. Thru out their conversation she could hear that he was coughing a lot. “Dad, are you okay? Are you taking all the medication you need to take?” “Yeah…don’t worry about me. Hakuna mattata.”
“Hakuna- what?”
Her father, Dean, started to laugh thru his cough. “Sorry, Cody and I have been watching 'The Lion King'. You remember that movie, don’t you?”
“Of course I do. It was the only thing that made me laugh after mom passed away.” Sabrina said into the phone, stopping at the door of the hotel restaurant before going in.
“Yes it was. I love you honey. Say hi to Nicholas for me, and be safe.”
“Will do. I love you too, dad. Tell aunt Kelly I said hi. Kiss Cody for me.” Sabrina said and ended her call with a smile.

Hotel Restaurant
Sabrina walked in and saw a few of the same t-shirts scattered and some grouped together inside the restaurant. It appears that everyone had the same idea to come down for breakfast. Sabrina scanned the crowd for Nick. Instead she laid eyes on Demi.
“Hi!” Demi said to Sabrina embracing her.
Sabrina welcomed her embrace.
“Where’s Raven?” Demi asked.
“Raven had decided to make other plans for the day, so she kind of left me hanging.” Sabrina smiled in response.
“Oh ok, well that’s cool. We can just hang out shopping all day! I have like, already mapped out my route and everything! Well c’mon, let me introduce you to my sister. We were just finishing our breakfast.” Demi said starting to escort Sabrina into the direction she was sitting.
Sabrina slightly hesitated as she quickly scanned the room for Nick once more. Just as Sabrina started to walk with Demi, both Demi and Sabrina felt arms wrap around their shoulders. It was Nick who had made his way between the two women. “Morning ladies.” Nick smiled. He then turned to give Demi a hug. “I saw you yesterday but didn’t get a chance to speak to you. How have you been?”
Demi smiled hugging him back. “Im good, thanks.” Demi could smell his fresh scented cologne when she hugged him. She took a whiff of his scent once again as she pulled away from him. “Mmm, you smell good this morning.”
Nick continued to smile replying, “Oh, thanks. Well, you know, I decided to shower this morning.” He teased.
They all laughed. Nick looked at Sabrina and wrapped his arm around her pulling her in to hug her sideways. Sabrina wrapped her arm around his waist as she returned the hug. “So, Demi have you ate already?” Nick asked.
“Yea, actually, Im pretty much done. Sabrina and I were just about to go out into the city and hang out.”
Nick looked at Sabrina with his eye brows raised a little surprised by the news.
“Uhm…well actually…” Sabrina hesitated.
She wasn’t sure how to break it down to Demi that she would rather spend her time with Nick.
“Oh…my fault. I didn’t mean to interrupt you guys' plan.” Nick interrupted Sabrina.
“It’s okay.” Demi replied with a smile.
“Well, actually –“
“But I will see you guys at the luncheon, right?” Nick interrupted Sabrina once again. He kept his eyes on Sabrina.
“No. We’re skipping it, right, Sabrina?” Demi responded with her attention now on Sabrina.
“Demi…actually I decided to go to the luncheon with Nick.”
Demi’s smile faded. “With Nick?”
“Well, if you guys already had plans, don’t let me spoil it.” Nick replied.
Sabrina felt herself getting frustrated. Why was Nick pushing her off on Demi? She wondered.
Sabrina continued, “Well…I initially made plans with Demi and Raven to go shopping and then…”
“Hey…it’s okay. We’ll just catch up some other time.” Demi said with a disappointed look on her face. She then turned to walk away.
“No, Demi, wait. We can still –“
“No, really. I understand. My sister and I will just do a little shopping. Maybe we can meet up after you’re done with the luncheon.” Demi interrupted Sabrina.
Sabrina felt bad. She didn’t mean to hurt Demi’s feeling. She wanted to hang out with her but she also wanted to be with Nick.
“You have my number.” Demi said as she started to walk away.
“Demi, Im sorry. I promise we’ll get together after the luncheon. I will definitely call you.” Sabrina informed her. Demi gave both Nick and Sabrina a faint smile and walked away.
Sabrina looked up at Nick. Nick gave her an expression as if he were saying ‘eek’. “Sorry. Did I just screw up your plans?”
“You know what? Why don’t I just meet you at the luncheon. I won’t be right on time, but I’ll be there before its over. I can’t do that to Demi.” Nick sighed with disappointment. “Okay. I understand. You’re just going to leave me hanging out to dry…all alone. It’s cool.”
Sabrina smiled. “Oh my gosh, you are not going to give me the guilt trip.”
Nick smiled back at her admiring the flower he gave her placed in her hair. Sabrina reached out and touched his forearm.
“I’ll look for you at the luncheon.” Before Sabrina walked away, Nick gave her his cell phone number so she could text him once she arrived at the luncheon. Sabrina then rushed off to catch up with Demi and her sister.

Park Luncheon Area
Sabrina made her way out to the park that was not far from the hotel. This was where the luncheon was being held for their class reunion. As Sabrina walked toward the large picnic gazebo, there were several white t-shirts with NorthSide High Class of 2001 written as the logo that people were wearing. If Sabrina was lost, she definitely found where she was supposed to be due to the similar shirts scattered all around the park. Sabrina spotted Nick standing near a picnic table talking to Liam and another classmate named Corbin. They were laughing and talking while Corbin held a little boy in arms. Sabrina assumed it was his son…the little boy looked just like Corbin. Sabrina smiled as she walked up to the group of men.
“Hey, you made it!” Nick happily said as he reached for Sabrina giving her a hug.
“Hey Sabrina, how’s it going?” Liam said as he too gave Sabrina a hug.
“Good thanks.”
“Sabrina Cain? No way, what’s up!” Corbin said giving Sabrina a sideway hug.
“Yep, it’s me. Im surprised you remember me.”
"Of course. I used to try and copy off your paper in the 11th grade when we had Mrs. Esther for U.S.History. But you were so good at covering your paper.” Corbin laughed.
Sabrina joined in his laughter saying, “Whatever.” She then turned her attention to Corbin’s little boy in his arm. “And who is this handsome little man?”
“This is Jeremy, my 3yr old son.”
As Sabrina spoke to Corbin and his son, Nick found himself staring at Sabrina. From the flower that still stuck in her hair down to her olive smooth skin toned legs. Nick quickly snapped out of his daze when he heard Sabrina ask, “So is there any food left? Or did everyone already pig out?”
“No, I think there is still some left. But you better hurry.” Liam responded and took a sip of his drink out of his plastic red cup.
“C’mon, follow me.” Nick volunteered.
Moments later Nick and Sabrina took a seat at one of the picnic tables. They both gave small talk before Kyla came by the table with two of her kids. “Hey Brin, I was wondering where you were.”
“Hey!” Sabrina said happily to see Kyla giving her a hug.
Kyla introduced her kids to both Sabrina and Nick.
“Arnez can’t say this one is not his for sure. Are you sure Arnez didn’t give birth to her instead of you?” Nick teased Kyla speaking of her oldest daughter named Kyanna who was nine years old.
Kyla laughed.
"I know right!" Sabrina laughed in agreement. “Not to bring up any raw emotions, but, did Arnez plan on coming to the reunion?”
“I don’t know, and I don’t care.” Kyla responded holding her youngest child who was a 1 year old little boy.
As if on cue, her middle child ran up to the table asking Kyla for more cake. She was a cute little 7 year old girl. Sabrina found herself missing Cody as she looked at all the kids around her. She also found herself not minding to have a little girl of her own one day.
“Guys, I’ll be right back, Im going to go get Anisa some cake before she starts getting on my nerves, okaaay.” Kyla said with a bright smile and grabbing Anisa’s hand while holding her son in the other arm. Kyanna stayed seated beside Sabrina as she ate the rest of her food on her plate. For the moment, Nick was talking to another classmate as they passed by. Sabrina shook her head. There wasn’t one person that Nick would not talk to.
Once Nick was done talking to the other classmate he turned his attention back to Sabrina. He leaned his shoulder into Sabrina’s shoulder bumping her lightly. “Beautiful day, right?”
Sabrina nodded yes with a smile as she swallowed her bite of cheeseburger. She then said, “By the way…thank you.”
“For what?”
“The daisies.”
Nick smiled as he kept his eyes on her. “You’re welcome.”
“What made you do it?”
“Why do I always do it?”
“Good question! Why did you always do it?” Sabrina laughed out loud.
Nick chuckled as he adored her smile and laughter. “I just miss seeing your facial expressions when you receive them.” He said as he looked over at her.
Sabrina smiled back at him.

Sabrina smiled back at him.
Taylor
Taylor walked up to their table with a wide smile on her face. She leaned down and hugged Nick’s neck from behind him giving him a long kiss on his cheek. “Mmmmmuaaah! How’s my favorite person in the whole wide world doing?”
Nick didn’t bother to hug her back but he politely responded, “Hey Taylor.”
Taylor then stood straight up and looked down at Sabrina. “Sabrina…you look so pretty today. Stand up girly and give me a hug. I haven’t seen you in forever!” She said with a smile on her face.
Sabrina grabbed a potato chip from off her plate and threw it into her mouth before getting up to hug Taylor. She stood up awkwardly from the bench she sat on and hugged Taylor. “How’s it going, Taylor?”
“It’s going great! What about you?”
Sabrina sat back down on the bench and responded, “Everything is great.”
Sabrina looked over to her right to make sure Kyanna was still okay. She was still peacefully eating her food.
“Well isn’t that just swell.” Taylor responded. She then took a seat on the bench next to Nick. She sat down with her back to the picnic table and leaned back, resting her elbows on the table. She crossed her legs and flipped her head back allowing her long blonde hair to flow backwards. “Isn’t this the picture perfect moment? Like old times, right? The three of us, I mean.”
Nick nodded his head slightly.
Sabrina remained quiet.
“Except now, we’re all grown up now and have a life of our own.”
“Yea, I heard you got married and have a son now. Congrats.” Sabrina said with a genuine smile.
Taylor gasped as if she were so excited to hear Sabrina tell her congratulations. “Thank you sooo much Brin.”
“Is your son here?”
“No. I left him back home with my mother. Can you believe it? My mother is taking care of my child for me. I was so shocked.”
Nick felt like he was stuck in the middle of them talking so he decided to get up and leave them so they could talk. “Well, I think I will leave you two ladies to talk.”
Taylor quickly placed her hand on his arm to stop him. “Oh no, no, no. Don’t leave, Nick.” Taylor then leaned back a little more to look at Sabrina. “Sabrina, did Nick tell you about his daughter, Josslyn? You do know that his daughter’s mother was here last night, right?” Taylor volunteered.
Sabrina almost choked on the last bite of her cheeseburger. She then turned her head to her left to look at Nick.
Nick looked down as if he were annoyed Taylor just let that information out.
Taylor could sense the surprise in Sabrina’s facial expression. Taylor smiled. “Oh…Nicky, you didn’t tell her about you and Joanne? Brin, Joanne is Nick’s baby’s mother. She was the really pretty girl wearing that nice pinkish rose like colored dress. Too bad she had to leave last night with your daughter, Joss, because Sabrina could have met her, huh?”
Nick turned his head to the left to glare at Taylor. “Taylor, will you just..shut..up.”
Taylor was taken back by Nick’s response. “What? What’s wrong? Aren’t we all just friends catching up with each other.
Sabrina wasn’t sure how to feel at that moment. She wasn’t sure what was worst: The fact that Nick had withheld that information or the fact that Taylor knew more about Nick than she did. Why didn’t Nick tell her this information last night? And since when did Taylor start calling Nick, ‘Nicky’?
Snapping her out of her thoughts she could hear Kyla calling out Kyanna’s name. Sabrina turned around to see Kyla trying to get Kyanna’s attention. “Kyanna, your mom is calling you.”
“Oh!” Kyanna said and immediately started to get up from the bench.
“Here, I’ll come with you.”
“Okay.” Kyanna said sweetly.
Taylor and Nick watched Sabrina get up without saying a word to either of them. “Sabrina…” Nick called out to her softly.
“Oh, Sabrina, where are you going? Are we done talking already?”
Sabrina didn’t respond. She quickly got up and followed Kyanna over toward Kyla.
Nick turned to look at Taylor. “Nobody asked you to broadcast my business, Taylor.”
“Who knew you were keeping things a secret.” Taylor sneered as she flipped her blonde hair.
“I wasn’t. Just stop acting like a bitch. Oh wait…my fault. You’re not acting. That’s just who you are.” Nick said and got up from the picnic table.
Taylor smiled victoriously.
Nick looked around for Sabrina and saw her laughing and talking to Kyla and her kids. Before he got a chance to walk over toward her, their classmate, Macy, walked up to Nick grabbing his arm. “Hey Nick! You’re not leaving are you?” she asked him with a broad smile.
“Uhmm, no.”
“Good! We have to get everyone together to take a picture.” She then said loudly to everyone, “Hey guys! Can I have everyone’s attention?! We need to get everyone together and take a picture before everyone starts leaving. Everyone wearing their Reunion shirts please stay toward the front of the group and everyone else please stay in the back. Oh and please have your kids and significant others stay to the side! Sorry, it’s just for the alumnus!” Macy said as she held on to Nick’s arm and started to pull other people up from their seats off the bench.
Out in the open field, everyone started lining up to take the group photo. Sabrina walked with Kyla as they laughed and talked. Kyla left her kids with Corbin’s wife who also stayed to the side with their son. As Sabrina and Kyla started to line up, Sabrina met eyes with Zack who appeared to be glaring at her. Sabrina then started to casually look around to see if his brother Roger and his friend Paul were around. She wondered how their bloody nose and lips were holding up. Clearly she didn’t care if they were okay, she just thought it would be funny to see them all bandaged up.
“Okay, guys! Let’s get all my short people to the front and the tall people to the back.” Macy yelled for everyone to hear her.
After several attempts of trying to take the group photo, everyone finally cooperated and smiled nicely taking the group picture. Seconds later, everyone went into their own direction. Some began to leave to get rest before partying it up later that night at Pleasure Island. Once Sabrina walked with Kyla to get her kids from Corbin’s wife, they all walked back to an empty picnic table and continued to sit and talk. “So, you’re telling me that you don’t love him at all?” Sabrina asked Kyla speaking of her children’s father, Arnez.
“Sabrina, I can’t even lie to you. I do love him. He just gets on my nerves. But I do love him and I would so give him another chance if he asked.”
Sabrina pouted her lips when she saw how sincere Kyla was. She wrapped her arms around Kyla and gave her a side hug. Kyla then held up her baby boy smelling his diapers. “Ew, mommy’s baby made a stinky.” She then turned to Sabrina with apologetic eyes. “Can you do me a huge favor? Can you watch my girls while I go change his diaper?”
“Sure! We got this, right ladies?” Sabrina said to Kyanna who sat across from Sabrina and Kyla’s other daughter, Anisa, who sat right next to her. Both of Kyla’s daughters smiled and nodded yes.
“Thanks girl. I’ll be right back.” Kyla said and walked off.
As Sabrina continued to speak to both of Kyla’s daughters, Zack quietly walked up behind her. He smiled at Kyanna who sat across from Sabrina and then he gently wrapped his arms around Sabrina’s neck as if he were hugging her. Sabrina slightly jumped when she realized it was Zack. She didn’t want to make a scene while Kyla’s daughters were right there, so she stayed in her position. Zack whispered in her ear, “So, I hear you want to be big and bad now. Bad enough to start busting up people’s lips and shit. Let’s see how far that gets you.”
Just as Zack was about to give her a kiss on her cheek, he felt someone forcefully grab his arm and push him away from Sabrina. Zack almost lost his balance when he quickly regained his composure and saw that it was Nick who had pushed him. “Dude…what the hell?” “What are you doing?” Nick asked with a frown.
Sabrina quickly stood up to stand in front of Nick.
“I was just talking to her. What are you doing?” Zack asked with a frown. “Just stay away from her, alright?” Nick said moving Sabrina out from in front of him.
“Who the fuck are you to tell me what to do?” Zack walked up to Nick as if he wanted to start a fight.
“It doesn’t matter, Im sure she doesn’t want you all over her like that, so why don’t you just do what I say.” Nick said and clenched his jaw muscles.
“Nick, stop. It's okay.” Sabrina said trying to pull Nick away.
“Or else what, Lancaster? My brother was right, you have changed. What’s up with you? Are you trying to get with her or something?”
Nick was just about to swing when Liam rushed up and separated both Nick and Zack. Jacob and Corbin rushed up as well trying to help defuse the situation. “Bro, chill out. Go take a walk.” Liam said to Nick pushing him away.
Taylor then rushed up to aid Zack as if he were hurt. “Baby, stop. C’mon, let’s go.”
Zack started to walk backwards keeping his eyes on Nick as Liam and Corbin pushed Nick away from the gazebo area. Sabrina stood there as she watched Nick walk away with Liam and Corbin. She then turned to see Taylor consoling Zack as they sat at another picnic table near the corner of the large gazebo with Victoria and Jacob surrounding them.
“Ms. Sabrina what’s going on?” Kyanna asked with her eyes widened by what she just saw.
Sabrina fixed her facial expression trying not to look so disturbed. She planted a fake smile on her face and sat down beside Anisa wrapping her arms around her small slender shoulders. “It’s okay. Everything is okay.” Sabrina then looked around for Kyla.
As if on cue, Kyla walked back up to their table still holding her youngest son on her hip. “Girl what happened? Was Nick about to get into it with Zack?”
Sabrina stood up anxiously wanting to go check on Nick. “Yea something like that, but everything’s okay. Hey, I’ll be right back, okay?” Sabrina said and rushed off into the distance to speak to Nick.
Nick was standing near a tree still speaking to Liam and Corbin. “Nick, are you okay?” Sabrina asked once she approached them.
Nick only stared at Sabrina.
“I guess we should go.” Corbin said nudging Liam in the arm.
Liam nodded in agreement and they both walked away.
Sabrina waited for both Liam and Corbin to leave out of ear shot. She then turned her attention back to Nick. “Are you okay?” she asked once again.
“What did he say to you?” Nick asked with a frown.
“It doesn’t matter.” Sabrina said softly as she folded her arms in front of her chest.
“Why would you have him all over you like that? After what happened last night with his brother?”
“He snuck up behind me, while Kyla’s kids were right there, what was I supposed to do?” Sabrina protested.
Nick didn’t respond, he just stared at her.
Before they were able to continue their conversation, Nick’s eyes drifted off into the distance watching two police patrol cars pulling up with their blue lights flashing. A couple of officers got out of their cars and spoke to the nearest person. It appeared like they were looking for someone. “You’ve got to be kidding me. Did someone call the cops?” Nick said with frustration. Sabrina turned to see the police and felt her heart drop into her stomach.
TO BE CONTINUED ...
