Chapter 7 ~ (Freshman) 1997-1998
Sabrina (Age 14) & Taylor (Age 14)
Over the year, Sabrina had lost touch with Nick. Before her freshman year in high school, her father moved them to another neighborhood since the house they used to live in only made her father more depressed. In order for Mr. Cain to move on, he needed to be out of the house they shared with his late wife.
On the other hand, Sabrina was enjoying the first couple of months of her freshman year at NorthSide High. Her and Taylor were the most popular freshman girls in the whole school.
“Hey my fellow freshmen classmates! Sabrina are you going to buy tickets for the football game on Saturday, today?” an old mutual friend of theirs, named Victoria asked Sabrina as she sat down at lunch table her and Taylor were sitting.
“Of course! I have to support Zack and his brother, Roger! They are on the football team!” Sabrina exclaimed.
Taylor snapped her head quickly to look at Sabrina in shock. “What!? You know Roger? He’s a senior…how do you know Roger so well?”
“Yeah, and Taylor and I are on the cheerleading team!” Victoria shouted in shock.
Sabrina ignored Victoria and stared at Taylor with a puzzled expression. “What, I can’t know a senior just because you don’t know a senior?” Sabrina giggled. “Don’t spaz out, Taylor. Besides, Roger is in my Algebra class.”
“Algebra class? Hmmph.” Taylor scoffed quietly.
“Hey Sabrina! Come here.” A boy from across the cafeteria called out to her.
Sabrina saw that it was one of the cute boys in her science class named Jacob. He was also on the football team. She smiled and hopped up from her chair. “I’ll be back ladies. But cuteness is calling me.” Sabrina skipped away from her friend Taylor and their mutual friend Victoria.
“Why are you still friends with her?” Victoria asked Taylor. Taylor only stared at Victoria. Victoria continued, “You and I both know, she stole Nick away from you before he moved away last year during summer. And now, she’s trying to take Jacob from you too. She’s not even on the cheerleading team, and she knows every freaking football player. You’re the one who got her wearing makeup and letting her wear all of your jewelry. And she pays you back by stealing away all the guys you like. What’s up with that?”
“Well one thing’s for sure…she never stole Nick away from me last year. And she sure as hell won’t steal Jacob away from me. If anything, Jacob just wants to have sex with her which he won’t get because she’s still a fucking virgin.”
“No way! I heard she wasn’t a virgin.” Victoria said shocked as she looked at Sabrina across the cafeteria flirting with the boys as she flipped her hair and laughed flirtatiously.
“Well guess again. She’s still pure.” Taylor said now glaring over at Sabrina. “Im so sick of all the guys talking about how pretty she is when Im the one who not only made her popular, but made her look even prettier by teaching her how to wear makeup since her mother died.”
“Taylor, you created a monster.” Victoria sneered as they now both glared at her.
Sabrina laughed as she made her way back over to her friends. “Those guys are so crazy. Did you know Zack’s having a party tonight? We have to go!” Sabrina smiled.
“Yeah totally! Have your dad drop you off at my house tonight and then we’ll have my cousin drop us off at his house. We have to get dressed together.” Taylor faked smiled at her friend.
“Can I come?” Victoria asked.
“No. We’ll just meet you there. Besides I’ll see you at cheerleading practice after school.” Taylor said without smiling at her.
Victoria reluctantly agreed.
--------
“Dad, are you ready?” Sabrina asked her dad as she zipped up her sleep over bag. She then walked down stairs to find her father. He was sitting down at the kitchen table reading the day’s paper. “Dad? Can we go, please?”
Dean placed the paper down on the table and looked up at Sabrina. “Brin…I don’t remember you asking me if you could spend the night over at Taylor’s house.”
“Yeah I did. I asked you as soon as you came home from work. You don’t remember?” Sabrina asked impatiently.
“I told you how I feel about you hanging out with Taylor so much.”
“Oh my God!! Dad, how many times are we going to have this conversation! Im in high school now! Im totally responsible! Taylor and I will behave ourselves. I promise she wont ‘lead me into the wrong direction’.” Sabrina mocked her father. She continued, “Please daddy, please!” Sabrina pleaded.
Dean sighed in annoyance. He held up his index finger saying, “Last time. Do you hear me? This is the last time, young lady. I don’t want to hear another word about Taylor. She has been a bad influence on you, and I don’t like it. Do you understand me? This is the last time.”
“Okay.” Sabrina smiled victoriously. She then wrapped her arms around his shoulders and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “I promise we will behave ourselves. Nothing bad will happen.”
An hour after being dropped off at Taylor’s house, the girls were dressed and ready to go to Zack’s house party. Taylor wore a salmon colored tube mid drift top and tight black short shorts with black heels. Sabrina wore Taylors black mini skirt and a yellow thin spaghetti strap tank top. Both girls wore their hair down flowing over their shoulders. Taylor applied her makeup as well as Sabrina’s makeup. “Oh my God, girl we look fucking hot!”
Sabrina laughed as she threw on Taylor’s black sandal heels. “I know! We don’t look like we’re 14 years old.”
“And that’s the beauty of looking so hot!” She giggled as she looked in the mirror. She then turned to look at Sabrina. “You should totally take off your bra and go natural.”
Sabrina frowned. “No way!”
“Yes way! Your boobs are awesome and perky! You would look majorly hot! Can you imagine how the guys will fall all over you! You totally should!”
Sabrina tsked. “Nah. That’s okay. This skirt is already super short. I would feel totally naked there. Im good.”
“Fine.” Taylor said a little annoyed. “Let’s go.”
Taylor’s cousin dropped them off at Zack’s house. The party was in full effect and full of high school kids. However, Sabrina felt there were a lot of people who looked a lot older than she had expected. She was suddenly uncomfortable and wished she had on more clothes as a lot of guys stared at her.
“Damn girl, look at you and all that ass.” Zack said as he slapped Sabrina’s butt.
Sabrina giggled and playfully pushed Zack away. “Stop, asshole!”
Zack laughed and walked back up to her giving her a hug. “What’s up sexy.”
Sabrina welcomed his embraced with a smile. He continued, “When’s the last time you heard from my boy, Nick?”
“I haven’t. It’s been like forever. We don’t talk anymore. He got too busy with football, and then baseball in his new town so, I have no idea.”
“Oh so you don’t know he moved back in town?”
Sabrina looked surprised and shook her head no.
“Yeah, he moved back here in town like a few weeks ago with his mom. He’s gonna be on the football team and everything. I thought you guys talked? He’ll be at school on Monday, but he should be here tonight too.”
Sabrina felt slightly upset. She had no idea Nick moved back to town to live with his mother.
“That’s awesome. I had no idea.” Sabrina slowed her speech when she noticed Zack’s taller and good looking brother approached them. Roger wrapped his arm around Sabrina while he held a red cup in his hand.
“And here is the prettiest freshman ever!” Roger said giving her a kiss on the cheek
Sabrina smiled and embraced his kiss greeting him back.
“You look real good tonite. I still can’t believe you don’t have a boyfriend.” Roger said eyeing Sabrina up and down.
“Too bad you have a girlfriend already.” Sabrina winked at Roger.
Roger licked his lips as if he couldn’t wait to taste an appetizing meal. He then replied, “Things can change.”
Sabrina only giggled at Roger and playfully pushed his arm off of her saying, “Whatever!”
Just as Sabrina got her last words out, she felt someone wrap their arms around her waist and kiss her neck. The person then whispered in her ear, “What’s up sexy.”
Sabrina turned to see it was Jacob. Sabrina smiled and welcomed his embrace as he held her close to him from behind her. “Hey, Jacob.” The boy named Jacob then acknowledged Zack and Roger as he kept his arms wrapped around Sabrina.
“Is this your girl, man?” Roger asked narrowing his eyes at Jacob.
“Im nobody’s girl.” Sabrina smirked as she responded before Jacob had a chance to respond.
The boys laughed while Jacob picked Sabrina up and playfully spun her around.
“Hey, somebody get this pretty girl a drink. She doesn’t have a drink in her hand.” Roger yelled out loud.
Jacob volunteered as he walked off with Roger and Zack.
Sabrina saw both Taylor and Victoria staring at her as they sat on the sofa. Sabrina walked over to the girls and sat down squeezing her small frame between the girls. “Are you ladies having fun?”
“Not as much fun as you are.” Victoria said with an attitude.
“Ew, attitude much?” Sabrina frowned and then turned her attention to Taylor to see her reaction.
“What’s up with you and Jacob?” Taylor asked Sabrina with a slight attitude.
“Nothing. Why?”
“I dunno, you guys just seem pretty close just now.” Taylor said as she crossed her leg over the other.
“No, he was just being silly.” Sabrina said innocently.
Interrupting their conversation was a loud cheer from the kitchen from most of the guys. Turns out it was Nick and his cousin Kevin, who was a senior at Sabrina’s high school, had walked in.
“Taylor, look! There’s Nick!” Victoria exclaimed as she watched Nick be cheerfully greeted by the guys at the party; The guys were all mainly the football players at their school.
“Ooh. He looks hot.” Taylor said quietly.
Sabrina stared at Nick remembering the small kiss they shared a year ago. She had to agree with Taylor…Nick looked really cute. “Yeah, Zack said Nick’s going to be on the football team. His first day of school will be on Monday.”
“He’s coming to NorthSide? Yay!” Victoria jumped up can’t wait to greet Nick.
On the other hand, Sabrina was enjoying the first couple of months of her freshman year at NorthSide High. Her and Taylor were the most popular freshman girls in the whole school.

Sabrina stared at Nick as he smiled and laughed with the guys. Some girls began walking up to the guys and greeting Nick as if he were a celebrity. “C’mon, let’s go say hi!” Victoria said mainly looking at Taylor.
Taylor stood up, pushed her breasts together, and stuck out her chest as she followed Victoria into the kitchen area. She was obviously primping herself to greet Nicholas, Sabrina thought to herself.
Sabrina stood up to follow them. Jacob stopped her as he handed her a red cup filled with alcohol. “Here you go sexy.” Jacob winked at Sabrina.
“Thank you.” Sabrina smiled as she playfully scrunched her nose up at him.
“Wanna dance?” he asked.
Sabrina took a long sip and turned to look for Nick but couldn’t find him nor could she find Taylor. “Yeah sure.” she finally replied.
Sabrina danced with Jacob while drinking her alcoholic drink. Jacob would move close behind Sabrina wrapping his arm around her waist as they moved in harmony to the music playing. Once the song went off, Sabrina started to walk away when Jacob stopped her. “Where are you going?”
“To get some more…” she said as she gestured to her now empty cup. “…You want some more?”
“Nah, I’ll be waiting for you here.” He smiled at her.
Sabrina smiled back and walked toward the kitchen.
Sabrina bent down to dig into the cooler for a beer. Once she grabbed her beer she saw someone stand beside her. She looked up to a familiar pair of chocolate brown eyes. Sabrina smiled realizing it was Nick. He smiled back at her. “Hey Bri-bear.”
Sabrina giggled and wrapped her arms around his neck embracing him. “Nicholas!” She pulled away from the hug and slapped his arm. “Why didn’t you tell me you were moving back in town?”
“I didn’t have your phone number anymore. Apparently your old number is no longer in service. Trust me I tried.”
Sabrina couldn’t stop smiling at him. She thought he was so cute. “Gosh, you’ve gotten tall.”
Nick chuckled. “Thanks…I think. And you …you…you look good. It’s like your all grown up now.”
Sabrina placed her hands on her hip saying, “So what’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing…I just mean u look different. It’s a good thing.” Nick said trying to correct himself hoping not to offend his old friend. They stood there just looking at each other when Nick finally asked, “So, how’s your dad?”
Before Sabrina had a chance to respond, Jacob walked up to them wrapping his arms around Sabrina’s waist and pulling her close to him. “Dude, you can’t have Sabrina all to yourself.”
Sabrina giggled and welcomed his embrace.
Nick felt awkward watching Jacob so affectionate with Sabrina. However he overlooked it. He smiled and raised his hands up backing up a little. “My fault. Just catching up with an old friend.”
“It’s all good dude…” Jacob said giving Nick a fist bump. He continued bringing his attention back to Sabrina, “Let’s dance, sexy.”
Sabrina took another long sip of her beer while looking at Nick. When she was done she handed Nick her beer, saying, “We’ll catch up later, right?”
“Yeah…sure.” Nick said slightly disappointed.
About an hour later Nick and his cousin Kevin stood against the wall watching everyone dance as everyone talked and jammed to the music. Jacob had twirled Sabrina around as they once again walked into the middle of the living room amongst several kids dancing to the song “I’ll Be” By Foxy Brown & Jay Z. Jacob danced close behind Sabrina as she swayed her hips to the beat of the song while drinking yet another alcoholic drink. Jacob found it easier to cop a feel on Sabrina’s body the more intoxicated she became. Jacob would slide his hands underneath Sabrina’s tank top. Sabrina would smoothly remove his hands away from around her but continued to dance. Sabrina’s mini skirt would continue to rise as her and Jacob danced so close to each other. Victoria and Taylor would glare at Sabrina as she continued to dance seductively. Everyone at the party seem to have been watching Sabrina dance the night away.
Taylor kept trying to get close to Nick, but Nick would pretty much ignore her while he watched Sabrina. Taylor got upset and started to make her moves on Zack. Nick couldn’t believe how much Sabrina had changed. It was obvious how Taylor had rubbed off on Sabrina since the 8th grade.
Roger stepped up to Sabrina as she danced with Jacob. Sabrina was now sandwiched between Jacob and Roger. The more they danced the more Sabrina’s skirt and tank top would rise up. Nick didn’t like what he was seeing. The way Sabrina was smiling and laughing he felt she must be enjoying herself. Yep, she has definitely changed, Nick thought to himself.
Nick looked at his cousin Kevin and asked, “Hey, are you ready to go?”
“Ready if you are.”
“Let’s go.” Nick responded pushing himself off the wall he leaned against.
Nick said his goodbyes to a few people and including Taylor and Zack who were making out in a corner.
“Bye Nick. I’ll call you later.” Taylor slightly slurred in her speech and blew a kiss at him.
A few minutes later, Sabrina plopped down on the sofa beside Taylor who was straddling over Zack and having a heavy make out session as his hands heavily groped all over her body. “Taylor, where’s Nick?” Sabrina asked with her eyes half open due to her intoxication.
Taylor ignored her as she continued to tongue down Zack.
Jacob approached Sabrina grabbing her hand to pull her up and pull her into him. Sabrina stumbled her way up to him and grabbed for the cup in his hand. She didn’t care what kind of liquid was in his cup, Sabrina chugged the rest of it down her throat.
“Whoa! Easy girl.” Jacob laughed.
“More. I want more.” Sabrina slurred.
“You want more, okay let’s go get some more.” Jacob said pretty much holding Sabrina up in his arms. “Zack, where’s the rest of the beer?”
Zack, who was still kissing Taylor pointed toward the kitchen.
Jacob carried Sabrina to the kitchen and sat her down on the edge of the kitchen table as he looked for the beer. Sabrina began talking gibberish as her speech was slurred. She laid back on the table unintentionally exposing her crotch area. At that moment, Roger slowly walked up to her and leaned over her. “Hey pretty girl. You’re pretty wasted, huh?”
Sabrina responded with a drunken laugh.
Roger smiled and looked around and saw Jacob searching for something. “Hey, what are you looking for?”
“More beer.” Jacob answered.
“Oh, it’s in the garage.” Roger stated. Jacob looked back at Sabrina lying on the table as if he were going to take her with him. Roger stepped up toward him and added, “Why don’t you go ahead and get some more. Sabrina’s ride is out front, so I’ll take her out.”
Jacob hesitated with disappointment. He then reluctantly said okay, and walked out the back door toward the garage.
Roger looked down at Sabrina and smirked. He grabbed her arms pulling her up into a sitting position. He then picked her up putting her over his shoulder.
Sabrina continued to laugh. “Where are you taking me you handsome man you…” Sabrina slurred allowing her head and arms to hang loosely.
“You need to lay down and get some of this alcohol out of your system.” Roger added as he carried her upstairs slapping her butt.
“But I want more alcohol.” Sabrina slurred.
As Roger carried Sabrina over his shoulders, Taylor and Zack were discussing if they should finish their little make out session elsewhere. That’s when Taylor saw Roger with Sabrina. She glared at Sabrina. She then looked at Zack. “Take me home.”
“I can’t drive.” Zack replied.
“Where’s Victoria? Victoria!” Taylor yelled thru her drunken slurr. “We have to go. Let’s get out of here!”
Meanwhile, Roger carried Sabrina into his bedroom and closed the door. He dropped Sabrina down onto his bed. Sabrina continued to laugh as she remained in her own world. Her skirt was now halfway raised above her waist exposing her purple panties. Roger climbed on top of her as he began to kiss her neck and whisper in her ear. “You are so beautiful.”
Sabrina giggled. “Aww thank you.” She slurred with a giggle as she lightly tried to push him away from her. She continued, “…But what are you doing?”
“Kissing you. You are such a beautiful girl.” Roger said softly as he continued to kiss her without waiting for her to respond. “You like that, don’t you?”
Sabrina giggled and continued in her drunken slur. “Yeah…feels really nice. Thank you…you’re sweet…”
“No baby, you’re sweet.” Roger whispered as he spread her legs open with his knees placing himself between her legs. He then raised her arms above her head holding her wrists tightly with one hand as he raised her tank top exposing her black bra. He began kissing and groping her breasts thru her bra.
“Uhmm…okay...whoa...hey…you’re doing too much.” Sabrina slurred now with her eyes half open looking at Roger as he began to get aggressive.
Roger then crashed his lips on her lips and began kissing her hard and rough forcing his tongue into her mouth. Sabrina groaned trying to move her head so he would stop. He then moved his rough kisses down to her neck as he attempted to remove her bra. “Wait…wait…stop, what are you doing?”
At that moment, someone burst thru the door. Roger snapped his head up toward the door and saw his friend Paul Wesley who was also a senior at NorthSide High. “Get the fuck out!” Roger said angrily.
“Oh…damn my bad, man,” Paul said stepping into the room looking at Sabrina half naked on the bed still in a drunken daze.
Sabrina started to get loose from his grip and push him off. “Okay, boys. I have to go now. My friend Taylor is waiting for me down stairs.”
“Whoa, whoa, pretty girl…where do you think you’re going?” Roger said pushing Sabrina back down on the bed.
“No. I have to go. Let me go.” Sabrina said now getting more strength to push him off of her.
“Sorry baby, but you’re not going anywhere until I say so.” Roger angrily stated shoving her hard back down on the bed holding her arms down.
“No! Stop, let go of me!” Sabrina began squirming trying to set herself free from his grip.
“Paul, get over here and hold her down for me.”
Paul devilishly smiled and firmly held her arms above her head.
Sabrina began to cry. “STOP! NOOO!” she screamed.
Roger tore her panties off and began unbuckling his pants. “Cover her mouth.” Roger demanded Paul.
Paul then placed his knees on top of her small wrists pending her arms down and covered her mouth with his hand.
Sabrina cried hard still trying to move away from Roger. Roger placed himself between her legs and rammed his hard erection inside of her small virgin walls. Sabrina screamed out in pain as he thrust in and out of her. As Roger continued to rape her, Paul roughly took his other hand and lifted her bra and began fondling her breasts. Roger would shove Paul’s hand away from her breasts so he could grope Sabrina’s bare breasts as he continued to rape her. All Sabrina could do was cry in pain and disgust. It seem like eternity until Roger finally exploded inside of her. Roger looked down and saw a little blood. “Damn, I knew she was tight for a reason. She’s a virgin.”
Paul chuckled. “Hold her, let me get some.” Paul sneered.
Roger grabbed a towel and wiped himself off pulling his pants up with a smile. He then took over the position Paul had as Paul unbuckled his pants. Paul then rammed himself inside of Sabrina raping her as well. Sabrina continued to cry in agony still trying to get free, but they gave her no room to escape. Her tears kept flowing down her face as her muffled screams continued in pain with every thrust Paul gave her.
All of a sudden, someone else walked into the room. Roger looked up to see his younger brother Zack. However Paul was too much into forcing himself on Sabrina that he didn’t notice.
“You want some little bro? She’s giving it up to anyone who wants it.” Roger smiled.
Zack stepped forward a little closer and saw what he thought was Sabrina lying there having a threesome. Sabrina’s legs were being held open by Paul as he pounded deep inside of her. In Zack's drunken state of mind, he was slightly turned on by the sight as he heard what he thought Sabrina was moaning with pleasure. He then looked up at Roger’s face. “Close the door. Come get some, little bro.”
Zack slowly closed the door. Intoxicated, Zack stumbled closer as he now saw the tears streaming down Sabrina’s face. Paul finally exploded inside of her and backed away pulling his pants up out of breath.
“Your turn...come get it bro. Bring your drunk ass over here and get some pussy, bro!” Roger said getting angry.
Zack did just as his brother told him and slowly unbuckled his pants. “She ain’t gonna do nothing, bro. Give it to her. Do it.” Roger demanded still holding Sabrina’s arms down. Zack felt a push come from behind him, pushing him down on top of Sabrina. Sabrina’s red drunken yet fearful eyes looked up at Zack as her muffled screams began to get slightly louder as Roger covered her mouth. “Stop looking at her and do her, bro!” Roger then covered Sabrina’s face with a pillow. Sabrina groaned as she struggled to breath from under the pillow while her legs kicked.
“Fuck her Zack! Stop being a punk!” Paul yelled at him from behind.
Zack looked down at Selena’s naked body as her skirt sat above her waist. He then grabbed her legs struggling a bit to pry them apart as Sabrina tried to kick him away. Once Zack forced himself on her, Sabrina began to scream and squirm more trying to breathe.
“Dude, you’re suffocating her.” Paul said as he looked down at Sabrina.
Roger lifted the pillow allowing Sabrina to cry out for Zack to stop.
“STOP! PLEASE!”
Roger quickly covered her mouth and her eyes with his hands as he demanded his brother Zack not to stop.
Zack continued until he too, exploded inside of her.
In excitement to see his brother reach his first climax, Roger released his tight grip from Sabrina to congratulate Zack as he playfully tackled him to the floor.
With all of her strength, Sabrina rushed off the bed and ran out of the room. She ran downstairs, straight out of the door pulling her tank top and skirt down to cover her body. She didn't bother to make eye contact with any people who were still partying at the house. She ran until she couldn’t run anymore.
After running for so long, Sabrina's instincts had her running in the direction back to her home. She snuck into her home quietly and ran into her bathroom in her bedroom. She closed the door and cried her eyes out as her body and everything between her legs throbbed with pain. Sabrina was sick to her stomach and began vomiting.
The fact that her father was a heavy sleeper, Sabrina was able to clean herself up in the bathroom without her father knowing anything. Sabrina quickly took off her clothes and submerged her bruised body under the shower water. She crouched down on the floor of the tub and curled her knees up to her chin and cried.
She wondered where Taylor was at the party. Taylor was making out with Zack but where was she while Zack was there raping her? Her father was right, Sabrina thought. She should have never left to go to Taylor’s house and to the party with Taylor. She shouldn’t have even been hanging around Taylor. She swore she would never tell her father about her frightful night. She swore to never tell anyone.
Sabrina thought about her mother. She missed her mother. Sabrina stayed in the shower until the water turned cold on her. She finally stepped out of her shower, threw on a sweatshirt and sweatpants, climbed into the comfort of her bed and pulled the covers over her head and continued to cry until she fell asleep.
Part II
The next morning was a Saturday. Dean woke up and went to work briefly since he knew that Sabrina was sleeping over at Taylor’s house. When he came home around 12 noon, he wondered why Sabrina hadn’t called him yet when he told her to be home that morning. He walked upstairs to her room and opened her door to check to see if she were there. Little did he know, Sabrina had been there all night and hadn’t moved from her bed since she had come home. Dean saw her pink and orange polka dots bed spread scrunched up and messy. He started to walk away thinking her bed was just messy when something made him go and pull the covers back to make sure she was under there. Dean pulled the covers back to see his daughter curled up wearing her gray sweatshirt and sweat pants. “Hey sweetie. When did you get home?”
Sabrina groaned as she tried to keep her face buried away from her father.
“Long night of fun, huh?”
Sabrina didn’t respond.
“Are you hungry?”
Sabrina shook her head no.
“Do you want me to just leave you alone?” Her father chuckled.
Sabrina shook her head yes.
Her father smiled and threw the covers back over her. “Alright. I’ll be downstairs if you need me.”
Hours later, the sun set and the skies were darkening. Dean still hadn’t seen Sabrina come down stairs. He walked back into her room and she appeared to have been still in the same position. He sat down on her bed pulling the covers back. “Brin…are you okay, honey?”
Sabrina shook her head yes.
“Honey, you’ve been in bed all day. Are you sick or something?”
“Im just tired.” Sabrina responded softly.
“What did you girls do last night?”
“Nothing. We just stayed up all night, that’s all.”
Dean tried to get a good look of her face. “Honey, look at me.”
Sabrina turned her head to face her father.
Dean saw how puffy and red her eyes were. Her father continued with concern, “Are you sure you’re okay?”
Sabrina shook her head yes and continued to try and bury her face away from her father.
“You want to get out the house and go grab something to eat? Maybe go to Five Guys for some burgers?”
“Im not hungry.” Sabrina responded quietly.
Dean sighed. “Okay. Well…why don’t I go get some and bring it back? Maybe have a movie night with your old man, huh.”
Sabrina shrugged her shoulders.
Dean rose to his feet and walked out of her bedroom. He left to go to Five Guys restaurant just as he said. When he came back, Sabrina was still in bed asleep.
The next day was a beautiful Sunday morning. Dean cooked breakfast and brought a plate up stairs for Sabrina who was still in the bed. “Alright young lady, you need to get up and eat. C’mon, get up.” Dean demanded.
Sabrina sat up slowly with her hair tossed all over her head. She rubbed her face trying to rid the depression and sleepiness off her face. “Here, let me turn your television on. Your famous group is on tv. The Spice Girls.” He smiled teasing her knowing she hated that group.
Sabrina faintly smiled. “Dad…I hate the Spice Girls. Backstreet Boys are my favorite band.”
“Really now? I could have sworn it was the Spice Girls. Hmm…silly me.” He chuckled to see a small smile on his daughter’s face. His smile slowly faded as he stared at his daughter watching her slowly eat the food he had given her. “You know, Brin…if something is wrong, you can tell me. I know we’ve had this discussion after your mother passed and Im getting back to my normal self again. So…I am 100% here for you, hun. After you’re aunt Kelly moved to Japan for a few years for her job, I realized im here all alone to raise a beautiful teenage daughter on my own. So, bare with me as I try my best, alright?” he said patting her leg thru her covers.
Sabrina nodded as she pushed a few tangled strands of her hair behind her hair.
He smiled and stood up from her bed. “Why don’t you take a shower, put some clothes on and come downstairs and hang out with your old man, huh?”
“I guess.” Sabrina said softly without making eye contact with him.
He gave her one last stare and smiled uncertain of Sabrina’s behavior. He knew something was wrong but didn’t know what it was. He thought maybe it was a woman thing, such as her menstrual cycle, so he left all alone and walked out of her room.
The next morning was a school day. Sabrina told her father she wasn’t feeling good. He allowed her to stay home while he went to work. He would call her thru out the day to check on her. Truth be told, Sabrina didn’t want to run into Zack and his brother Roger or his friend Paul. She didn’t know how she should react if she were to run into them knowing that they raped her; knowing that they saw her naked body; knowing that Roger held her down so Zack could have his way with her; knowing that Zack, Roger, and his friend, all had their way with her without her consent..violating her body. The thought of that horrible night flashed thru her head and made her cry. She would get angry at the fact that her so-called friend, Taylor, never called her considering she never went back to her house that Friday night or went to the football game Saturday night. She didn’t understand. She thought Taylor was her best friend; her best friend since kindergarten. Nicholas was right. He said Taylor had changed, but she was obviously blind to the whole fact. In a year, she had lost her mother and best friend, Nicholas. She apparently lost her other friend Taylor. Sabrina didn’t care if she never saw Taylor again in her life. At that point, she felt the same about Nicholas. She wondered where he was the whole time. It was like she had no one.
It wasn’t until Wednesday when her father told her she either needed to go to the doctor or go back to school. Sabrina didn’t want to go to the doctor. She felt if the doctor gave her any kind of exam he would tell her father that she was no longer a virgin. Which in turn, she would have to tell him how she lost her virginity. She couldn’t bare the thought. So that Wednesday morning, Sabrina reluctantly got dressed to go to school. She begged her father to take her to school. She knew Taylor’s cousin wasn’t going to pick her up, since Taylor never called or talked to her since that Friday night at the party. She definitely didn’t want to ride the bus, so her father decided to take her considering he would be late for work.
Sabrina wore a loosely navy colored fitted t-shirt and blue jeans with her white K-Swiss sneakers. She allowed her hair to fall loosely around her face so she could block out her peripheral view. She wore no makeup or jewelry. She only wore a watch her mother gave her a long time ago and a little bit of cherry chapstick on her lips.
“Try to have a good day, hun.” Her father said squeezing her shoulder as Sabrina got out of the car.
Sabrina gave him a small fake smile and exited the car.
Sabrina held her books up close to her chest and held her head down low as if she were ashamed to be walking in the halls. She would occasionally look up and see students whispering to each other and point at her as she walked by. Boys would smile and smirk at her. Girls would narrow their eyes at her and have a disgusted look on their face as she passed them. She heard snickering and giggles while her name was being whispered thru out the hall.
She heard a girl say, “That’s the one they ran a train on at the party.”
“She’s such a whore.” Another girl would say.
Sabrina so badly wanted to cry but she swore to herself that she would hold in her tears until she could cry privately in her room.
Taylor and Victoria were walking down the hall side by side laughing and talking, wearing their cheerleader outfits, when they both laid eyes on Sabrina walking toward them. The girls stopped in front of Sabrina’s locker and smirked at her.
“Well, well, well…look who finally decided to come to school.” Victoria sneered.
Sabrina wanted to avoid them both but she needed to go to her locker of which they were blocking. That’s when Sabrina saw that her locker had been written on. A four letter word was hugely written in a black marker across her locker. Sabrina stared at it in shock as some started to whisper and snicker at the sight. The word read: SLUT.
“Awe, poor Sabrina. Looks like you had too much fun at the party last weekend.” Victoria said mockingly. She then began to laugh out loud as Taylor folded her arms in front of her chest and smirked at Sabrina.
Sabrina was so hurt at Taylor’s actions. A tear escaped from her right eye as it trickled down her face. Sabrina then saw Jacob, Zack, and another football player named Liam, walking down the hall smiling at Sabrina looking at her up and down. Sabrina felt everyone in the hallway had stopped and stared at her, laughing and pointing at her, calling her slut and whore. Sabrina turned the opposite way and ran down the hall to exit the school building as she sobbed crying her eyes out. Sabrina realized the whole school had turned against her. She had no idea what all was being said about what happened at the party. Sabrina was mostly hurt by who she thought was her best friend, Taylor. She did nothing to come to her defense.
Once again, Sabrina found herself running in the direction back to her home. She knew her father was at work and she would be alone in the house. She wished she had someone to talk to. She couldn’t talk to her father because she felt it would just be too awkward. Her aunt Kelly was too far away and her mother was no longer alive.
Sabrina made it to her room and cried herself to sleep.
Hours later, Dean rushed into the house searching for Sabrina as he yelled out her name. “Sabrina, where are you?!
Sabrina heard her father come into the house. She slowly sat up in her bed and ran her fingers thru her hair preparing to hear whatever it is her father had to say. Dean burst into her room startling her. He had anger in his eyes.
He stopped and placed his hands on his waist. “So you’re skipping school now? With Taylor?”
“I wasn’t feeling well, so I came home.” Sabrina said quietly.
“The school called and said you never even went to your homeroom.” Dean said angrily.
Sabrina’s eyes started to well up with tears.
“I – I don’t understand you Sabrina. I dropped you off at school. If you weren’t feeling well, why didn’t you just call me? Instead you just run off campus and come home? You expect me to believe that?”
Sabrina looked up at her father and nodded her head yes. “Im sorry, daddy.” Sabrina said and laid back down on her bed and pulled the covers over her head.
Dean sighed with frustration. He walked over to her bed and sat down beside her and pulled her covers down away from her. “Young lady…what is wrong with you? Are you really sick? If you’re sick, I need to take you to the doctor.”
Sabrina only began sobbing.
Her father was so confused. “Honey…please. Are you in pain? Why are you crying?”
Sabrina continued to quietly sob.
Dean became worried with concern as his anger disintegrated. “Sabrina? Wha – honey, what is it?” he gently placed his hand on her shoulder impatiently wanting her to tell him.
Sabrina sat up and hugged her father as she continued to cry.
Dean embraced her tightly as he felt himself begin to choke up with his own sobs. He thought about how he wished his wife was still alive. She would know what to do. He slowly rocked back and forth comforting his daughter, as he held her in his arms. He rested his chin on the crown of her head letting her cry until she couldn’t cry anymore.
Weeks later, Sabrina still hadn’t told her father that she had been raped. She didn’t tell him how she was being bullied in school by both girls and boys. Girls calling her names and boys trying to touch or grab her because of the things they heard that happened at the party. Taylor was even one of the girls who giggled or gave her mean looks when she walked into a class room or walked down the hall. Roger’s girlfriend even talked about fighting Sabrina for sleeping with her boyfriend or for having what she was told “a threesome” with her boyfriend Roger. Sabrina ignored all her violent threats.
At times she would see Nick, but she would avoid him and walk the other way as he laughed and talked to Jacob, Zack, Roger and the other members of the football team.

Sabrina (Age 14-15)
One day, Sabrina felt sick to her stomach as she sat in her classroom taking her test. Sabrina placed the hood of her jacket over her head.
Nick, who was not a current student in her class for that period, walked into the classroom dropping a note off to the class teacher that Sabrina was currently in. As he waited for the teacher to sign his note, Nick looked around the class. He saw Jacob and smiled as he raised his head up in greeting him from a distance. Jacob smiled throwing his head back up to Nick saying 'what's up' in gesture. Nick then saw Sabrina with her hood over head and her head on her desk. While his friends constantly talked about how much of a 'good piece of ass' Sabrina was, Nick started to feel bad for her. It was like she never brushed her hair. He heard how much she changed from the skimpy clothes and makeup to now no longer wearing makeup. She wore sweaters, jackets, jeans and sweat pants even though it was a hot sunny day. He knew something was different about her ever since the party.
Once the teacher handed him his note back, Nick left out of the class room and decided to wait for Sabrina to exit the class.
The bell rung, and everyone quickly turned in their tests and exited the class room. “Sabrina, can you stick around for a second?” Mrs. Watts, the teacher, said quietly to Sabrina when she handed her exam to her. Sabrina nodded as she kept her head down, not making eye contact with any of the other students. Taylor glared at Sabrina and walked out of the class. Jacob looked at both the teacher and Sabrina and slowly walked out of the class.
Minutes later, as Sabrina walked out of the school, she heard a male’s voice call out her name. “Sabrina! Hey, Sabrina!”
Sabrina didn’t want any contact with any male figure except for her father. She kept walking. In fact, she began to speed walk to get away from the person.
However, the person caught up to her and grabbed her arm to stop her. “Hey! Wait!”
Sabrina turned to see Nick. “Leave me alone.” Sabrina said flatly and started to walk away.
“I just want to talk to you.” Nick said stopping her once again.
“I have nothing to say to you.”
“Why? I didn’t do anything to you.”
“I saw the stares you gave me…Im not dumb.” Sabrina scoffed and started to walk away from him.
“Is it true?” Nick asked no longer stopping Sabrina and watching her walk away.
Sabrina stopped and closed her eyes. She just realized she never heard the stories that the school must have heard. It obviously was not the truth whatever they heard. Sabrina turned around and narrowed her eyes at Nick. “Is what true? What did you hear?”
Nick looked down feeling slightly embarrassed to tell all the details he heard.
“Go ahead. Tell me. I don’t care anymore.” Sabrina insisted.
Nick cleared his throat and hesitated. “Rumor has it that..You started out having sex with not only Zack, but…his brother Roger and his friend, Paul. You let them do everything to you…and you …well…you know…you went down on all three of them. And the reason you didn’t come to school that following Monday and stuff was because you and Zack kept… doing it. You stayed at home while he skipped school to have sex with you. He said things got so rough, you wanted him to rip your underwear off. He showed all the guys on the football team your underwear. Now all the guys on the football team are saying you...do or have done a lot of ...stuff...with them. So everyone knows…that something happened. So…is all of it true?”
Sabrina felt sick to her stomach. Not only for hearing the false allocations that Nick told her but because she was truly feeling sick. Within the next seconds, Sabrina turned and vomited into the bushes. Nick watched in disgust.
“Uhm…are you okay?” Nick asked now more so concerned.
Sabrina wiped her mouth with the sleeve of her jacket while her eyes were red and full of tears. “Maybe if you didn’t leave me there, you wouldn’t have to ask.” Sabrina’s voice trembled. She then turned away from Nick and ran home.
“Sabrina, wait!” Nick shouted out to her. However, instead of running after her, he decided to let her go. He felt like he didn’t know Sabrina anymore.
Days later, while Sabrina’s father was at work, she walked to the city bus stop and took the bus to the clinic. Sabrina was starting to get worried when she kept vomiting. It was like she couldn’t keep anything down in her stomach. She was also worried because her period hadn’t come in a month. Sabrina’s father constantly threatened to take her to the doctor, but she insisted to him that she was fine.
The doctor at the clinic had informed Sabrina that she was 4 weeks pregnant. “It’s imperative that you let your parents know, dear.” The nurse told Sabrina.
Sabrina placed a fake smile on her face. “Yes ma’am. My dad is on his way to pick me up now,” she lied.
The nurse nodded and released Sabrina.
Sabrina couldn’t believe she was pregnant…pregnant at 14 years old. What would her father say or do, she wondered as tears constantly flowed down her face.
Unfortunately, Sabrina would never know. She managed to collect all of her allowance from over the years and use it to get an abortion. Sabrina had no one else to call, so she called Taylor’s cousin to take her. She knew Taylor’s cousin would tell Taylor, but at that point, Sabrina no longer cared. Sure enough, word started to spread around school that Sabrina was pregnant and had an abortion. The rumor mill said she had an abortion because she didn’t know who the father would be since she had relations with majority of the football team. To Sabrina, it was official...her freshman year was clearly the worst year of her life...by far.
Chapter 8 ~ (Sophmore) 1998 - 1999
Summer vacation was about to be over and Sabrina was preparing for her sophomore year. Sabrina spent her summer vacation mostly in doors improving on her art work that she had so much passion for. Sabrina’s father had just waken from his nap when the doorbell rung. Sabrina didn’t budge to answer because she knew it wasn’t for her. Dean answered the door and was shocked to see who was on the other side of the door. “Nicholas?”
“Mr. Cain. Hi. You remember me?” Nick said surprised and happy Sabrina’s father remembered him.
“Of course. Come in, come in. Glad to know you found our new home.” Dean said welcoming Nick inside.
“Thanks.” Nick smiled as he walked in.
“I thought you moved with your Dad? So did you guys moved back in town?”
“Actually my dad is still in D.C. He had more time for his numerous girlfriends rather than me. So, I decided living with my mom would be better.”
“Oh…I see…” Dean said not sure what to say. He quickly changed the subject. “Can I get you something? Drink? Food? Anything?”
Nick stuck his hands into his jean shorts and replied, “No, thanks. Uhm..is Sabrina around?”
Dean paused and stared at Nick for a second. He then finally responded, “Let me go check to see if she feels like having company.”
Dean knocked lightly on Sabrina’s door and walked in. “Hey hun. You have company downstairs.”
Sabrina looked up with a puzzled expression. “Who?”
“An old friend…Nicholas.”
Sabrina’s heart stopped. He found out where she lived? Why was he here? Selena slowly placed her art work to the side and slowly stood up pulling her shorts down between her thighs and fixing her over sized blue t-shirt with a yellow smiley face picture on it. Dean smiled at her when he realized she was preparing to go downstairs. He nodded and walked downstairs. Sabrina followed slowly behind her father still unsure what Nick wanted or why he was there.
Nick looked up at her with a weak smile. He wore a red baseball cap backwards, and a white t-shirt with his hands stuffed inside his jean pockets as he kept his eyes on Sabrina as she walked down the steps pushing her hair behind her ears. “Hey…” Nick said softly.
“Hi…” Sabrina replied still wondering why he was there.
“Uhm…can we talk?” Nick asked nervously.
Sabrina looked at her father as if asking for permission. Dean jumped realizing she was waiting for him to say something. “Oh, hey…yeah…why don’t you kids go on outside. Do some catching up.” He smiled and walked into the kitchen.
Sabrina walked toward the back door and lead the way outside, while Nick followed close behind her. Sabrina slowly sat down in one of the lawn chairs. Nick did the same. Nick cleared his throat before speaking. “How has your summer been?”
“Fine.”
Nick nodded as if approving her answer. “So..you’ve been doing okay?”
“Yep.” Sabrina answered flatly.
“Are you ready for school to start next week?”
“I don’t have a choice.”
Nick nodded again as if approving her answer. He then added, “Yeah…I was on my way to football practice, but they canceled it since it is so hot. I thought about you and decided to come over.”
“How did you find out where we stayed?”
Nick looked down shamefully. “Taylor finally told me a couple of months ago.”
“And you’re just now coming over here to try and talk to me? What? You didn’t want your football buddies to see you talking to a whore?” Sabrina narrowed her eyes at him.
“No.” Nick quickly responded with a frown. “It's not like that at all...I didn’t know what to say to you. You’ve been avoiding me. The whole school year, you avoided me.”
“No, you avoided me, Nicholas. I know Zack and Roger are your buddies and I know they talk about me. Hell, the whole school talked about me. But where were you? Nowhere. Why are you here again?” Sabrina said slightly upset.
“I want us to be friends again. At least talk like we used to. You’ve changed, Brin.”
“No, you’ve changed.”
“No…you did. What the hell happened to you during the year I was gone?”
“Apparently you didn’t care enough to stay in contact with me to find out. You were too busy with all your little sports games and football buddies. You didn’t care about me.” Sabrina stood up from her chair feeling herself about to cry.
Nick stood up as well. “Brin, I –“
“You know…my freshman year in high school sucked. But I am determined to not let the rest of my high school years suck as much as my freshman year. And if that means you not being in my life, then fine. I’ve lasted this long without you being around, I’ll be fine. So you and Taylor can go fuck yourselves.” Sabrina rushed her words out angrily. She then stomped away and walked into her house with tears in her eyes.
“Sabrina, wait!” Nick said following behind her into the house.
Dean heard Sabrina burst into the house and yell out to him thru her tears, “Daddy, please make him go away!”
“Sabrina wait…I just wan –“ Nick stopped suddenly when he saw Dean step in front of him with a slight frown on his face.
“Maybe you should leave, son.” Dean said in his deep voice.
“But Mr. Cain…I didn’t do anything to her. I swear. I was just trying to talk to her.”
Dean lightly placed his hand on Nick’s shoulder to turn him around heading out the door. “Well…right now she doesn’t want you here. So, I think it’s best you leave.”
Nick started to protest but decided to be quietly escorted out by Sabrina’s father. As Nick stepped out the door he turned around to face Mr. Cain. “Just so you know, sir…I never meant to come over here and hurt your daughter. Can you please tell her that Im sorry?”
Dean saw the sincerity in Nick’s eyes. He gave Nick a reassuring smile saying, “I’ll give her the message.” He then gently closed the door in Nick’s face.
Dean walked upstairs into Sabrina’s room where she was lying on her bed crying. Dean sighed wishing he really knew what was going on with his daughter. He sat down on her bed to comfort her. Without saying a word, Sabrina sat up and hugged her father crying on his shoulder. He lightly rocked back and forth embracing her tightly. He sighed out of frustration wishing that she would talk to him. Ever since her last night hanging out with Taylor, he and Sabrina would have these crying sessions. He didn’t know what else he could do for her except comfort her by being there. He was sure that when she was ready, she would finally let her wall down and talk to him.
----------
Thru out Sabrina’s sophomore year, she remained quiet and stayed out of people’s way. She never went to any school functions or participated in any school clubs/organizations. She continued to wear nothing but jeans and t-shirts, and no make up. She didn’t want to draw any attention from any boys. Even though Roger and his friend Paul had graduated, Zack was becoming more and more popular with the girls in school. From time to time, Zack would stare at Sabrina. Sabrina would feel his eyes on her and when she looked at him to see if he really were looking at her, he would wink and blow a kiss at her by extruding his lips out as if giving her a smooch. Sabrina would quickly look away in disgust. Taylor and Victoria became the best of friends as they walked the hallways acting like the popular cheerleaders that they were. Sabrina would keep her distance from them even though she would also feel Taylor’s eyes burning into her.
The only interest in high school Sabrina had was her art classes. Drawing was her escape from all reality.
Sabrina slowly became “the quiet art girl” in school. Sabrina’s art teacher, Mrs. Swanson was Sabrina’s favorite teacher. Mrs. Swanson always seem to bring the best of Sabrina out in her art work.
“Mr. Cain. Hi. You remember me?” Nick said surprised and happy Sabrina’s father remembered him.

Taylor (Age 16) & Victoria (Age 16)
Sabrina walked to her locker after her art class feeling good when she bumped into Victoria with Taylor by her side. Taylor started to complain to the person to watch where they were going when she realized it was Sabrina. Sabrina rolled her eyes and kept walking.
“Hey!” Victoria said stopping Sabrina. “You don’t know how to say excuse me?” Sabrina only stared at both girls.
After a long pause, Sabrina finally responded, “Excuse me.” She began to walk away.
“What’s your problem, Sabrina?”
Sabrina turned around to face both Victoria and Taylor. “What?”
“What’s your problem? You don’t talk, you don’t come to games. You don’t do anything. How does the popular girl become so fucking lame? What’s your problem?” Victoria giggled looking at Taylor as if she wanted Taylor to join in her laughter.
Taylor blankly stared at Sabrina waiting for her to respond.
Sabrina narrowed her eyes at both Victoria and Taylor. “Do me a favor, and just leave me alone. Both of you.” Sabrina said and started to walk away.
“Sabrina, wait.” Taylor said catching up to Sabrina.
“What.” Sabrina said flatly.
“I miss you. Why don’t you come over later. Maybe we can hash things out or something.” Taylor said in what Sabrina felt was a condescending tone.
Sabrina looked at Taylor as if she were crazy. This was the first time Taylor had actually spoken to her with more than three words. Sabrina finally replied, “Nah. Im good. Thanks.” Sabrina quickly turned and walked away.
Sabrina finally made it around to her locker when she was putting in her lock combination. The bell rung and students quickly scattered to their classes. Sabrina realized she was about to be late for her next class as she struggled with her locker combination. Just as she finally opened her locker and the hall cleared of students, Sabrina felt someone wrapped their arms around her waist and push her up against the lockers.
“Have you been avoiding me all year?” a male’s voice whispered in her ear.
Sabrina quickly turned around and forcefully pushed the person away from her. “Get off of me!” Sabrina said with anger when she saw it was Zack.
Zack quickly reacted and pushed Sabrina up against the lockers. “Hey, don’t push me!” Zack said in a hush tone not to make a lot of noise in the quiet deserted hallway.
“Get away from –“ Sabrina started to say loudly when Zack raised his hand up to roughly grab her chin trying to tell her to be quiet.
“Shut the hell up.”
Sabrina tried to push him away once again, when they both were startled to hear another voice approach them.
“Hey, Zack!”
Sabrina pushed Zack further away as she glared at Zack who now had a smile on his face.
Zack turned to see who was coming down the hall. “Yo, Nick! What’s up, bro.” Zack said with a smile.
Nick had a concerned look on his face as he kept his eyes on Sabrina. Sabrina quickly turned around to get inside her locker and gather the books she needed.
“Hey…what’s going on?” Nick asked as he gave Zack a fist bump but kept looking at Sabrina.
“Yeah, everything is good. Sabrina and I was just goofing around. Right, Sabrina?”
Sabrina kept a frown on her face as she remained quiet and quickly moved about in her locker to quickly escape. She slammed her locker shut and walked off without looking at either Nick or Zack. Nick saw that she dropped something on the ground as she scurried away. Zack shook his head at Sabrina. “Must be that time of the month for her.” Zack chuckled. “I gotta go…see you around, man.” Zack then walked in the opposite direction from Sabrina.
Nick didn’t respond to Zack. Instead he picked up the small item Sabrina had dropped and quickly ran to catch up with Sabrina.
However, Nick was too late. Before he had the chance to catch up with her, Sabrina had already dipped into the class room she was tardy for. Nick sighed with disappointment. He looked down in his hand at the item Sabrina unknowingly dropped from her locker. Nick turned around to go back to her locker. He opened the piece of paper in his hands. It was the paper Nick left in her locker that she accidentally dropped. The small daisy flowers he placed inside were still intact the way he had left them. He folded the paper and wedged it back into her locker just as he did before, hoping she would see it the next time. Nick looked around to see if anyone saw him. When he didn’t see anyone, he walked off.
Later in the day, after school was over, Sabrina quietly made her way to her locker so she could prepare to make the long walk home. She noticed a piece of paper folded inside her locker. She furrowed her eyebrows as she examined it. When she opened it her expression lightened. There were two yellow daisies stuffed inside the folded paper and a written note which stated:
Yes, a friend still cares about you ~ Nick.
Sabrina looked up to see if Nick was around. But all she saw were other students anxious to leave the hallways of Northside High. Sabrina smiled thinking about the very first time Nick gave her daisies. She closed her locker and walked away.
It appeared that at least once a month, Nick would leave little notes in her locker along with daisies stuffed inside the note. One time he stood at the corner of the hallway and watched Sabrina when she found the note. Sabrina brought the daisies up to her nose to take in the very faint smell of the flowers. Sabrina felt someone's eyes on her and looked down the hall making eye contact with Nick. Nick smiled at her and walked away. Sabrina smiled thinking how sweet he was and walked off in the opposite direction. It was the only bonding moment they would have since Sabrina always saw Nick hanging around his football buddies which included Zack. The cheerleaders were always making their presence known around the guys as well…especially Taylor. Sabrina didn’t want to be bothered with them so she always kept quiet and out of their way.

Chapter 9 ~ (Junior) 1999 - 2000
“Sabrina…Kyla..and…Kristen... Can you ladies please stick around?” Mrs. Swanson, Sabrina’s art teacher said with a smile as the bell rung.
Once the other students left the class, except the ones that Mrs. Swanson asked to stay behind, she closed the door and excitedly stared at the 3 young ladies in the class with her.
“What’s up Mrs. Swanson?” Kyla asked with a cheerful smile.
“I have something exciting for you all to do. A very fun project.” She paused waiting for their response. The girls remained silent as they waited for her to continue. “How would you ladies like to create a mural on the school’s cafeteria wall?” Mrs. Swanson smiled widely as she lightly clapped her hands with excitement.
“Really? Cool!” Kyla exclaimed.
“Does that mean I have to stay after school a lot? Or will I be missing some classes?” Kristen asked flatly.
Mrs. Swanson gave a small chuckle at her student. “What if... you just told me you agree to do it and I can give you details later?”
“Okay. Cool.” Kristen said shrugging her shoulders as Kyla joined her with a smile.
Everyone then turned their attention to Sabrina. “I don’t know. I don’t like to get involved in a lot of things.”
“Oh, Sabrina, this is your school. You have to be involved. Besides, I wanted you to pretty much delegate this project.” Mrs. Swanson practically begged Sabrina.
“Sabrina, you are one of the best artists in our class.” Kyla smiled.
“True.” Kristen chimed in.
“See, you have all the support you need to get this done. What do you say, Sabrina?” Mrs. Swanson added.
Sabrina lightly smiled and sighed. “Okay. Fine.”
Mrs. Swanson hopped up and cheered. “Ladies, this is going to be awesome. So…let’s start meeting up after school starting next week. We will only meet on Wednesdays. And yes, Kristen…when push comes to shove, it is very possible, some classes will be missed. BUT…you didn’t hear that from me.”
Kristen smiled with approval.
As Kyla and Kristen left, Mrs. Swanson asked Sabrina to stick around.
“Sabrina is everything okay at home?”
Sabrina furrowed her eye brows slightly. “Yes…why do you ask?”
“I have really noticed a change in your behavior. You’re not that bubbly girl I used to know when you were in the 9th grade. You’re a junior now. These last years here in high school should be your best years of your life. And you’re not participating in any of the school functions.” “Well, Im doing this art project you just asked me to do.”
“Yes, but you almost turned it down. That’s why I put Kyla and Kristen with you. Kyla is so bubbly and fun and Kristen is so creative, I think the three of you will work well together…and perhaps you girls will become close friends.”
Sabrina smiled at her favorite teacher. “Thanks Mrs. Swanson. I can’t make any promises, but we’ll see how things work out.” Sabrina turned to leave out of the class room. “See you tomorrow.”
Mrs. Swanson smiled and waved goodbye to her.
Sabrina continued to walk off the campus when she heard someone come up behind her.
“What’s up?”
Sabrina saw that it was Nick smiling showing the dimples that every girl at NorthSide High had grown to love. She had to admit, his dimples were adorable.
“Hey Mr. Popular.” Sabrina said sarcastically.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” he asked as he continued to slowly walk along beside her.
“I heard there were two girls who got into a fight over you today. Adrina and Hillary were fighting over you in the cafeteria today.”
Nick chuckled at the thought. “Nah, they weren't fighting over me. My name just happened to have been brought up throughout their conversation.”
Sabrina laughed sarcastically. “Riiight.” Sabrina then looked around to see if anyone was around or following them. “So I see the only reason why I get the honor to speak to you is because your football buddies are not around. Nice.” Sabrina said looking straight ahead.
“No. I always try to talk to you, but like always you avoid me.”
“That’s because you hang around a bunch of assholes.” Sabrina said flatly.
“What do you have against my so-called football buddies?”
Sabrina looked at him in shock wondering why he didn’t understand her hatred to them.
“What did they do to you?”
Sabrina stopped walking and narrowed her eyes at Nick. “Everything.”
“Like what?” Nick challenged her.
Sabrina wondered if she should even bother telling him about her frightening night back when she was a freshman. She shook her head as if saying ‘nevermind’ and began to start walking again. “You wouldn’t understand.” Nick grabbed her arm and walked up to her as he now towered over her. She couldn’t believe how tall he had gotten and how playing football made him a little buff. It was understandable why so many girls were crazy over him. Sabrina sighed and looked away. “All of your football buddies are assholes, Nick. They lied about me and it ruined my life.”
“Lied about what?” Nick asked even though he had a feeling what the answer was.
Sabrina looked up at Nick. “Do you really believe all those things they said about me when we were freshmen?”
Nick smacked his teeth in disbelief. “Oh my God…are you still worried about that? That was so long ago –“
Before Sabrina knew it, she harshly pushed Nick away from her. “They ruined my life! Zack, Roger and Paul…they ruined my life!”
Nick gave her a confused expression. He wasn’t sure where her anger was coming from.
“In case you have noticed, Taylor and I don’t speak anymore, and I had pretty much put you in the same boat when you both left me at that stupid party. So yes, Im still worried about those lies from then because those lies ruined my life!” Sabrina turned and started to walk away from him.
“Sabrina, wait! You keep talking about the party, why don’t you tell me what happened.” Nick said following behind her. Sabrina remained quiet as she held her tears inside. “Damn it, Sabrina!” Nick yelled as he snatched her arm back to make her stop walking. “What really happened that night? Tell me.” Nick pleaded as he towered over her.
“I was raped!” Sabrina shouted as she snatched her arm away from Nick’s grasp. Tears escaped down her face as all her emotions began to overflow thinking about that night. “Are you happy now, you asshole!” Sabrina said thru her sobs. “Roger, Paul and Zack raped me. They…they…wouldn’t stop…they…”
Nick wrapped his arms around Sabrina with a concerned expression consoling her.
Once the other students left the class, except the ones that Mrs. Swanson asked to stay behind, she closed the door and excitedly stared at the 3 young ladies in the class with her.

Zack (Age 17)
A car pulled up beside both Nick and Sabrina as they stood on the sidewalk. Nick looked at the car and saw that it was Zack, Liam and another girl named Demi who was in the back seat wearing her cheerleader outfit. Zack hopped out of his car carrying a football in his hand. “Yo, Nick! What’s up man? Everything alright?”
Hearing the voice of Zack made Sabrina snap out of her emotional distress. She pulled away from Nick and turned around so she could wipe her tears. Still with a concern look on his face Nick turned to look at Zack without immediately responding. Zack repeated himself as he threw the football at Nick for him to catch it. “Is everything okay?”
Nick’s reflexes were right on time as he caught the ball. Nick turned to look at Sabrina but Sabrina had already walked away. “Yeah…all is okay.” Nick stated slowly as he kept his eyes on Sabrina walking down the street.
“Well alright. Thought you would have already been at the diner with everyone else. Let’s go, I’ll give you a ride.”
Nick reluctantly agreed as he followed Zack to his car.
Later that night, Sabrina told her father good night, and walked into her bedroom turning the light off. Wearing her thin cotton pajama pants and a white tank top, Sabrina climbed into her bed feeling tired. She felt better that she had finally told someone she was raped, but she didn’t know if it was such a good idea. Before Sabrina could get deep into her thoughts, she heard what sounded like little pebbles hitting against her bedroom window. She then heard a familiar whistle. Sabrina hopped out of her bed and looked out the window. There was Nick, downstairs, outside whispering out Sabrina’s name. Sabrina opened her window and poked her head out. “Nicholas, what are you doing?” Sabrina whispered in a shout.
“We need to talk.” Nick responded in a loud whisper.
“No. Go away!” Sabrina started to close her window when Nick yelled out her name loudly.
“Sabrina!! Damn it, talk to me! Now!”
Sabrina looked down at Nick. She wasn’t sure how to take his demand but he looked like he really wanted to talk to her.
Sabrina held up her finger telling him to wait. Sabrina quickly threw on a hooded gray sweatshirt and ran downstairs to meet Nick outside. As soon as Sabrina stepped outside she spoke quietly to Nick folding her arms across her chest. “Are you crazy? My dad will kill you for coming by here so late.”
“Were you serious today? Were you raped?” Nick asked impatiently ignoring her first statement to him.
Sabrina took a deep breath and looked down. “Yes.”
“By who?”
Sabrina hesitated. “Nick you can’t tell anyone. Promise me you wont tell anyone.”
“Who raped you?” Nick persisted.
“I told you already...Zack and his brother Roger…and Paul. Nick please don’t say anything.”
“Did you tell your father?”
“Oh God no! I can’t and I wont…and neither will you.”
“Were you really pregnant?”
Sabrina thought it would be a good idea that she didn’t tell him the whole truth. “No.”
“So you never had an abortion like Taylor said you did?”
“No…it doesn’t matter. Why do you care?”
“Why do I care? Are you craz – Sabrina you have to tell your father.” Nick started to walk toward her front door.
Sabrina quickly grabbed him to stop him from going forward. She then pushed him away. “No! Nick, don’t you dare! Just go away! Leave!” “Then you’re lying.” Nick challenged her as he looked down at her.
Sabrina stopped and stared at Nick in shock. “What?”
“Maybe you’re not telling your father because you know that you’re lying.”
Sabrina frowned at Nick. “You’re such an ass! You know what? Do me a fucking favor and never talk to me again! I don’t have to lie about anything! They raped me, Nick! If you don’t believe me, then fuck off!” Sabrina harshly pushed Nick once again and walked away to go back into the house.
---------
“Okay ladies, good work today! I think you ladies can call it a day. I think the mural is going to be beautiful.” Mrs. Swanson said as she looked over their creative thinking outline for the mural. Sabrina, Kyla and Kristen thanked Mrs. Swanson and walked out of the cafeteria.
“See you guys on Monday.” Kristen said flatly as she started to walk away from the girls.
“Well, wait! I need you guys to do me a huge favor.” Kyla said in a chipper tone and a huge smile. “My boyfriend, Arnez is playing baseball at Ridgemont High’s Stadium. I don’t want to go over there alone. I have my mom’s car. So, please come with me? We don’t even have to stay the whole game. I just want to make sure he sees me.”
Sabrina and Kristen looked at each other with an uncertain look.
“Well, I can’t. I have to babysit.” Kristen said running her fingers thru her hair.
Kyla quickly looked at Sabrina. “Please, Sabrina. Me and Arnez are in love and I just don’t want to go over there alone. Plleeeaasee.” Kyla begged.
Sabrina took a deep breath. “Alright, fine.”
“Oh thank you thank you thank you!” Kyla quickly hugged Sabrina catching her by surprise.
--------
Sabrina and Kyla walked into the stadium where there was a nice crowd of people. Kyla pointed out her boyfriend Arnez as she continued to talk Sabrina’s ear off.
“Im gonna get a soda, want one?” Kyla asked after they had sat there for a while.
“No thanks.” Sabrina replied with a smile.
“Okay, I’ll be right back.”
Sabrina nodded and pulled out her sketch pad out of boredom from the baseball game. As Sabrina continued to look around at the crowd a bit more, she saw a familiar face. It was Nick.
Hearing the voice of Zack made Sabrina snap out of her emotional distress. She pulled away from Nick and turned around so she could wipe her tears. “Okay, I’ll be right back.”
Sabrina nodded and pulled out her sketch pad out of boredom from the baseball game. As Sabrina continued to look around at the crowd a bit more, she saw a familiar face. It was Nick.
Nick was sitting with Liam and Jacob. If they turned around, they were sure to see Sabrina sitting there. Sabrina hadn’t talked to Nick in a week since they argued in front of her house that night. Sabrina was suddenly ready to leave. As Sabrina stared at Nick, it was as if Nick had felt someone staring at him. He started to turn and look around. He then turned and made eye contact with Sabrina.
Sabrina quickly looked away and looked down at her sketch pad. She wondered if he was still looking at her, so she cautiously raised her eyes up to see if he was or not.
Yes, he was.
He gave her a light smile. Sabrina realized she couldn’t stay mad at him. They always argued and made up ever since they were kids. He then mouthed the words “Im sorry.”
Sabrina gave him a small smile.
However, her smile faded when their classmate, Audrina, sat down beside him taking his attention away from Sabrina. She wrapped her arms around him and planted a long kiss on his lips.
Sabrina uncomfortably looked away. She began looking around for Kyla. She saw her talking to another person holding a soda in her hand. Sabrina quickly gathered her things to meet up with them at the top of the stairs.
Once Audrina drew her attention elsewhere, Nick turned around looking for Sabrina, but she was already gone. Nick turned back around feeling disappointed.

Chapter 10 ~ (Senior) Year 2000 - 2001
“On behalf of Mrs. Swanson and some of our finest artists from the class of 2001, representing the pride of NorthSide High Mighty Dolphins…I present to you, the Mighty Dolphins Mural!” The principal, Mr. Clark, proudly announced. Once the mural was revealed, an applause erupted amongst the ooh’s and ah’s at the beautiful sight.
Sabrina, Kyla, Kristen and Mrs. Swanson all smiled at the revealing and the standing ovation they received as they stood in the cafeteria during a parent teacher open house. Everyone applauded the beautiful mural. Pictures were taken and congrats were given as well.
While Sabrina’s father was talking to Mrs. Swanson, Sabrina was getting punch with Kristen and Kyla at the food table. “Hey, did you guys hear what happen to Demi?” Kyla asked as she dipped her chip into the ranch dressing on her plate.
“Who the hell is Demi?” Kristen asked.
“Demi was on the cheerleading squad. She was dating Zack last year, right?” Sabrina asked softly.
“Yep. I heard thru the grapevine that when she tried to break up with him before school started this year, he got angry and beat her up.” “Whoa…are you serious? Has anyone seen her since we started school?” Kristen asked.
“Nope.” Kyla answered.
Sabrina remained silent. She felt bad for Demi. It was clear Zack had issues with females.
“Ready kiddo?” Dean, Sabrina’s father asked interrupting her thoughts.
Sabrina smiled nodding her head yes. She said her goodbye’s to Kyla and Kristen and left to go home with her father.

Nick (Age 18)
Sabrina’s senior year was fairly quiet. She continued to see girls fight and argue over who was Nick’s girlfriend or not. Nick obviously became the typical heartthrob who was a player at their high school. With them now being seniors at school, Nick was more serious about his career in sports. He was looking for a scholarship in any way possible thru football and or baseball. Sabrina missed the daisy flowers he used to leave for her in her locker. Now, he was too busy with other girls and sports. They would sometimes make eye contact and smile at each other at times when they were passing in the halls. Nick would sometimes flash his dimples at Sabrina and wink, but that was the only type of association they had thru out the year.
Sabrina was able to leave school early since Mrs. Swanson helped her get an internship at an advertising company in the creative arts department. It was something she was so grateful for.
One day before Sabrina was going to leave school for her externship, she walked into the bathroom to hear someone crying in one of the stalls. Sabrina wondered who it was but said nothing. She continued to use the restroom and wash her hands. Just as she was about to leave, she heard the girl who was crying call out to her.

Demi (Age 18)
“Sabrina?” Sabrina slowly turned around. Demi was coming out of one of the bathroom stalls. Demi’s eyes were puffy and red. “Are you okay?” Sabrina asked with concern.
Demi wiped her tears as her voice trembled. “I feel like I can talk to you because I think what happened to me…happened to you.”
Sabrina gave Demi a confused expression. “What do you mean?”
“I wasn’t very popular our freshman year..like you were. But I was at Zack’s party that night you were there with your ex-best friend,Taylor. I saw Zack’s brother carry you upstairs when you were drunk. Then I saw you run out of the house in tears. You came back to school that next week as a totally different person..." Demi paused to briefly blow her nose. She continued as she looked up at Sabrina, "I remember it like it was yesterday. I heard all the things Zack said about you back then, but now…now I know how much of a liar he is.”
Sabrina remained quiet for a second as she registered the things Demi had just told her. “Sooo…you knew what happened and you said nothing?”
“I wanted to be popular. Taylor, Victoria and I became friends and I had a crush on Zack…what was I supposed to do?” Demi explained. Sabrina found herself getting upset. “It doesn’t matter now. What happened to me is in the past. Did Zack..rape you?”
Demi nodded her head yes as she began to sob once again.
“Im sorry.” Sabrina stepped up to Demi and hugged her. “You have to tell somebody. Don’t be like me. Tell someone.”
At that moment, Taylor and Victoria walked into the restroom laughing and talking. They suddenly stopped at the sight of Demi and Sabrina. Victoria giggled at the sight of Demi crying. “Give it up, Demi. Zack will never take you back. You’re a fucking whore.”
“Shut up Victoria!” Sabrina snapped.
“Who the fuck are you talking to, bitch!”
“Im talking to you dumb –“
“Whoa, chill out ladies. No need to fight.” Taylor said looking at Sabrina with a snub expression.
Sabrina rolled her eyes at Taylor and turned her attention back to Demi. Sabrina gave Demi another hug and whispered in her ear, “Call me if you need to talk.” Sabrina then gently pulled away and gathered her things to leave. She pushed her way thru between Taylor and Victoria without saying ‘excuse me.’
“Bitch.” Victoria mumbled.

As her senior year came to an end, Sabrina never heard from Demi. In fact, Demi would avoid Sabrina when she saw her in the hallways.
Sabrina decided to let it go. If Demi didn't want to talk, then so be it.

Sabrina decided to let it go. If Demi didn't want to talk, then so be it.
After Sabrina's last class, she hopped in her car drove home for the day. It was a day she didn't have to report to her internship at the advertising company. As Sabrina pulled up into the driveway, she saw her Aunt Kelly’s car in the driveway. Sabrina smiled with excitement and quickly exited the car, running inside the house.
"Aunt Kelly?" Sabrina shouted thru the house.
Kelly came around the corner from the kitchen to greet her niece with a smile. They gave each other a huge hug. It had been years since Sabrina had seen her aunt when she left to Japan for her job. Now she was back home.
“I can't believe you’re here already!” Sabrina rushed up to Kelly to hug her.
“Of course I am. The job allowed me to come home extra early to get ready for your graduation! Something I wouldn't miss for the world! Oh my goodness look at you...absolutely beautiful.” Kelly exclaimed giving Sabrina another hug.
“Thank you.” Sabrina smiled as they walked back into the kitchen where her father was.
Sabrina's smile faded when she saw her father who looked like he had something on his mind. She could tell he had planted a fake smile on his face when she walked into the kitchen. “Dad what’s wrong?”
“Honey, sit down.” Her father said in a serious tone.
Sabrina exchanged looks between her aunt and her father. Her aunt's smile had now vanished. Kelly took a seat at the table where Dean sat.
“What? What’s wrong?” Sabrina slowly took a seat the table across from her father.
Dean took a deep breath. “You didn’t know, but, I have been going to the doctor a lot lately. And today was the day I got my results for all the testing I have been going thru. And…the results came back saying that…I have cancer.”
Sabrina looked at her aunt once again and then back at her father to see if they were joking or not. The seriousness on their faces revealed to her that he was not joking. “What? What does that mean? Are you going to be okay?”
“Yes. We hope so..I mean…that’s the plan. The plan for me to fight this thing is to go thru a lot of chemo and everything will be fine.” Her father responded.
“Well…how serious is it? I mean…you’re not going to die or anything are you?”
“Nooo. That’s why he’s going to go thru chemotherapy to help him fight it. And hopefully the cancer will go away.” Kelly said as she stood up walking around the table to Sabrina and wrapped her arms around Sabrina.
“I’ll be fine honey. Im not going anywhere.” Dean added with a comforting smile and grabbing Sabrina's hand on the table.
"Aunt Kelly?" Sabrina shouted thru the house.

------------
A month later it was the night before Sabrina’s graduation. While her classmates were having parties or just out having fun, Sabrina stayed home and enjoyed the company of her father and her aunt. Her father was not looking as healthy as he used to once he started the chemotherapy, but he was still up and about. And that was okay with Sabrina.
The doorbell rung interrupting their family quality time. Sabrina hopped up saying, “I’ll get it.” Sabrina opened the door to find Nick on the other side. “Nicholas…hi.” she answered a bit shocked to see him there.
“Hey…you got a second?”
“Uhmm..yeah. You want to come in?”
Nick accepted the invitation and talked to both Sabrina’s dad and her aunt. Nick was sad to see her father not looking so well, but happy he was still laughing and smiling. After a long conversation amongst the small group, Sabrina excused herself along with Nick when Nick kept giving her a look as if he wanted to talk to her. They both stepped outside.
“Thanks for coming over and talking with my family…especially my dad.” Sabrina said pushing a few strands of her hair behind her ear.
“Of course. I love your dad. He’s the best. I just hate to hear that he has cancer, ya know?”
Sabrina softly chuckled and agreed looking away from him.
Nick quickly changed the subject saying, “I got accepted to University of Florida, on a football scholarship.”
Sabrina smiled as she playfully hit his arm, “That’s awesome! Gainesville, Florida? Congrats you're gonna be a Gator!” she exclaimed referencing the mascot for the University of Florida football team.
Nick laughed saying, “Thank you. What about you? Are you leaving town or what?”
“Nah. Im gonna stick around here in Atlanta and go to the Art Institute. Im going to major in Fine Arts. That advertising company I was doing my internship for, decided to keep me around for another year and maybe even give me a permanent full time job there.”
“Niiice.” Nick smiled lightly shoving Sabrina’s shoulder.
Sabrina giggled. “Yeah…and plus I didn’t want to leave my dad, ya know?”
“Yeah. I totally understand.”
There was a brief silence between them.
“So, are you off to go to a party or what?” Sabrina asked as she noticed how nice he looked in his blue jeans and button down maroon shirt. “Yeah…actually I was trying to see if you wanted to come with me. This could be our last night hanging out together…before I leave for Florida.”
“You’re leaving for school as soon as we graduate?” Sabrina asked confused.
“Yeah. I have a lot to take care of. And tonight and tomorrow night are like my only free nights to kind of paint the town red, ya know?”
“And you thought about me? What about your many girlfriends or the one I heard you got pregnant?”
Nick laughed out loud sarcastically. “Nah…I didn’t get any girl pregnant. My moms would kill me.”
Sabrina smiled and rolled her eyes.
“So how about it? Wanna hang out?” Nick asked as he flashed his dimples.
Sabrina folded her arms across her chest and looked away briefly. She couldn’t help but smile when she saw his charming smile. “I don’t know, Nicholas. I don’t want to go to any kind of party. You know that’s not me.”
“No, I wasn’t talking about some kind of party. Im talking about just you and me. Me and you. That’s it.”
“And go where?”
“Where ever you want to go. We can just go ride down the street and sit in my car. I just want us to hang out.”
“Really?” Sabrina asked surprised.
Nick chuckled. ‘Why is that so hard for you to believe?”
Sabrina only looked up at him.
“C’mon, Bri-bear.” Nick smiled.
Sabrina playfully shoved his shoulder. “Okay. Fine. Let me go tell my dad and change clothes.

--------
Sabrina sat in Nick’s car as they drove down the road into the city night lights. Sabrina wore a pink top and black Capri pants. It was a nice moon lit starry night. Nick ended up driving into downtown Atlanta where the city lights marveled across the sky within the skyscrapers. They ended up going to dessert shop with patio seating that sat on an upper level. As they took their seats, Sabrina looked around and realized that she had never been on a date before and it felt like they were on a date.
“Are you sure your little girlfriends wont get mad that we’re here just hanging out?”
Nick smiled and lightly chuckled. “Will you cut it out with the girlfriends and crap. We’re good. You’re good.”
Sabrina smiled.
As the night progressed, they made great conversation and enjoyed each other’s company.
“Oh…I almost forgot…” Nick said as he dug into his jean pockets. He pulled out two small yellow daisies and handed them over to Sabrina. Sabrina’s face lit up with a smile. She giggled as she took the daisies from Nick’s hand.
“I can’t believe you.”
Nick chuckled adoring her beautiful smile.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” He said in a low husky voice gazing into her eyes from across the small table. “I just wish…” Nick stopped himself and paused.
“What?” Sabrina asked with a puzzled expression.
Nick hesitated before he continued. He then shook his head as if shaking his previous thoughts out of his head. “Im gonna miss you Bri-bear.”
Sabrina smiled. “Im going to miss you too.”
They sat there in silence for a moment. Nick then decided to bring up an old conversation. “Can we get serious for a moment?”
Sabrina looked at Nick waiting for him to continue.
“I finally started to notice how you avoided a lot of the guys from the football team. Especially Zack. I thought about what you told me as far as what happened to you when we were freshmen. I started to listen to Zack talk about all these different girls and how much they were so willing to give it up to him and what not.” Nick paused as he looked down. “I knew you weren’t like that. Taylor maybe…but not my Bri-bear.” He lightly smiled as he looked up at Sabrina. His smile slowly faded before he began to say his next sentence. “When you told me you were raped…I couldn’t understand why you never did anything about it if you really were. I admit…I didn’t believe you…and Im sorry.”
Sabrina remained quiet as she looked down not making eye contact with Nick.
“Brin, I think your dad should know.”
Sabrina quickly raised her head up to look at Nick. “No. Please don’t. It’s too late. It happened so long ago. There’s nothing no one can do about it, so please…just don’t say anything. Please.”
Nick sighed in frustration. “But…you need to tell someone. You have to.”
Sabrina shook her head no. “Nick…Im 18 years old now. It’s too late. And Im not telling my father because he has enough to worry about. Besides…I did tell someone. I told you. When I told you, I felt like a weight was lifted off my chest. Im fine. Im okay. I will never see Zack, Roger and Paul again…so Im fine.”
“Instead you just shut your life down. No friends, no boyfriend, no anything.”
“I have friends.” Sabrina frowned.
“Im not talking about me…”
Sabrina scoffed. “Neither was I.”
Nick only stared at Sabrina not sure what to say next. She was clearly getting upset with him.
“I didn’t shut my life down for your information. Besides…I have a sick father to look after, so why don’t you just stop worrying about me and my life, and worry about your own.” Sabrina frowned at Nick.
“Im only trying to help, Brin.”
“Whatever. Can you take me home please? Im ready to go now.” Sabrina said as she gathered her purse and rose to her feet preparing to leave.
Nick took a deep breath. The night did not end how he wanted it to end.
Nick pulled up into Sabrina’s driveway and walked her to the front door. “So…I will see you tomorrow at graduation.”
“Yep.” Sabrina replied flatly. “Thanks for the ice cream.”
“No problem.”
An awkward silence fell between them.
“Look, Brin…Im sorry. Im just trying to look out for you. That’s all.”
“Yea, well...if I tell you to back off…I mean back off.” Sabrina stated firmly.
“Yeah but I think some things should …” Nick stopped himself once again realizing he would just make matters worst and he didn’t want her to be upset with him. “Okay.” Nick simply stated. “May I get a pre-graduation hug?”
Sabrina rolled her eyes.
Nick pouted saying, “Puwease?”
Sabrina laughed and then finally wrapped her arms around his neck giving him a hug.
Nick squeezed her gently as if it were the last hug he would ever give her. They pulled away and looked as if they wanted to kiss. However no one made the move. Nick held her hand saying, “See you tomorrow, Bri-bear.”
“Okay… Bye.”
Unfortunately for the both of them, they never got a chance to speak before or after their graduation. Nick was too busy having a good time with all of his friends. Sandra and Keanu, Nick's parents, ran into Sabrina when Sabrina was trying to find her father after the graduation. They both gave her a hug congratulating her. Seconds later, both Kelly and Sabrina’s father rushed up to her and hugged her tightly. They whisked her away to celebrate without Sabrina and Nick ever speaking again.
TO BE CONTINUED ...
