Chapter 24
Bahama Breeze Restaurant
_ Sabrina found herself having to dry her eyes from the tears
of frustration over what just happened with Nick back at the hospital. Why was he so upset? She
wondered. ‘I should be upset. He’s the one who lied to me about Joanna. And now
Joanna was all over him. She must have been doing that all week.’ Sabrina
thought to herself as she reapplied her mascara. Sabrina flipped her hair as
she gave herself one final look in the rearview mirror prior to meeting Josh.
Once she approved, she exit the car and walked toward the restaurant looking
for Josh. He was standing just inside the door. Sabrina thought he looked cute.
“Hey gorgeous.” Joshua said as he kissed her cheek in greeting.
Sabrina smiled and responded, “Hi.”
As if right on cue, the hostess of the restaurant walked up to them and said, “Hutchinson, party of two? I have your table ready.”
Josh and Sabrina followed the hostess to their table.
“Again thanks so much for meeting me here. You have no idea how much this means to me.” Josh said as he opened the menu left on the table for them.
“No problem.” Sabrina said looking into the menu.
As Sabrina skimmed thru the menu she could feel another pair of eyes burning into her. She looked up from the menu and saw Josh gazing at her. Sabrina couldn’t help but giggle with subtle embarrassment. “What?”
“Im sorry…it’s just that…it’s been a long time, you know? You’re still so beautiful.”
Sabrina rolled her eyes slightly and thanked him as she continued to look thru the menu.
“I like your shirt.” Josh blurted out.
Sabrina looked down at her shirt and noticed that she may have been showing a little too much cleavage. She adjusted her shirt and thanked Josh once again trying not to turn red from embarrassment. “It was just something that my aunt and I had to pick up from the mall. We didn’t expect to stay here so long in Orlando.”
“I hear ya.” Josh said still gazing at Sabrina.
Sabrina flipped her hair to the side as she continued to look down at her menu. As if on cue, the waitress approached their table. “Hi, my name is Keri, and I’ll be your waitress for this evening. Welcome to Bahama Breeze. Have you been here before?”
“No.” Josh answered finally taking his eyes off of Sabrina and looking down at the menu.
“I have, just not at this location.” Sabrina answered with a smile as she looked up at the blonde waitress who was wearing entirely too much lipstick.
“Well, welcome back, and to you sir, welcome to Bahama Breeze. Our specials are located here and here…” the waitress named Keri stated as she gestured toward the menus. “…and our special today is the Bahamian Seafood Chowder which is topped with our best shrimp. Our drink specials is the new Skinny Mojito and the Frozen Bahamarita which is our gold tequila, kiwi, strawberry and mango ices…and it is sooo scrumptious, you wont be disappointed.” Keri smiled. She then added, “So while I give you guys a chance to look over the menu, can I take your drink orders?”
“I’ll just take your Heineken.” Josh said flatly.
“Uhmm..I’ll have an iced tea. Thanks.” Sabrina responded.
“Okie dokie. Coming right up.” Keri responded with a smile and walked away.
“Wow, she loves her job.” Josh said looking over the menu.
“Or she’s just having a good day.” Sabrina smiled.
Josh shrugged his shoulders and smiled.
They quietly yet awkwardly looked over the menu trying to decide what to eat.
“Are you hungry?” Josh asked.
“Yea…I haven’t ate since around lunch time.”
“Good.”
Moments later the waitress came back with their drinks and they placed their orders. Keri took their menus away and said, “I’ll put your orders right in for ya.”
“Hey gorgeous.” Joshua said as he kissed her cheek in greeting.
Sabrina smiled and responded, “Hi.”
As if right on cue, the hostess of the restaurant walked up to them and said, “Hutchinson, party of two? I have your table ready.”

Josh
_Josh
took a sip of his beer from the bottle and gazed over at Sabrina.
Sabrina felt his eyes on her once again as she emptied a few Equal sugar
packets into her tea. “You’re staring again.”
Josh smiled. “Im sorry. I just can’t get over the fact that you’re sitting across the table from me.”
“Why don’t you just take a picture.” Sabrina said sarcastically.
“Can I?” Josh said taking out his phone.
“Oh my God, Josh…no! I was being sarcastic.”
Josh laughed. “I’ve missed you Brin.”
Sabrina avoided his eye contact and remained silent.
“Is it true that you testified on stand that if I hadn’t left you think we would still be together today?” Josh asked.
Sabrina looked up into Josh’s brown eyes. She took a deep breath. “Why did you leave?”
“I told you…I was scared. I was only twenty-one years old, with a girlfriend who told me she was pregnant. I didn’t know what to do.”
“So instead you ....break my heart and just leave. That’s awesome Josh.”
Josh looked down feeling ashamed. “I regret every moment of it.”
“Really? That’s funny. I don’t think I would have ever heard from you if it weren't for Zack being such a pig.”
“That’s not true. I moved to L.A. to persue a career—“
“A career that Cody and I couldn’t be involved in, right? Yeah…I get it.” Sabrina said sarcastically taking another sip of her iced tea.
Josh only stared blankly at her for a moment not sure how to respond. Deep down inside he knew she was right. “Well…that career will be moving me out of L.A. in a few months. Im moving back to Atlanta in about 6months.” Josh smiled.
Sabrina raised her brows in shock and almost choked on her iced tea. Sabrina cleared her throat and finally spoke.
“Really?”
Josh smiled and nodded yes. He then said, “So, you see…I was going to find a way to contact you anyway. I think me moving back to Atlanta will be like a new beginning. A fresh start. And definitely a new beginning for Cody and I. I know it’s going to be hard…and Im ready for the challenge.” Josh leaned down to his side and picked up a big plastic bag he had brought in with him.
Sabrina had wondered when he was going to bring up the matter of what was in the bag.
“I don’t know if I should wait to give this to him when I officially move back to Atlanta or send it to him for his birthday next month or wait for Christmas…I just don’t know.” Josh explained excitedly. “So what do you think?”
Sabrina didn’t know what to say. She felt like it was all too much that he was throwing at her in one time. “Well…wh-what is it?”
Josh pulled out two wrapped boxes. “I bought it while I was here this week. Its an Xbox and the Xbox Kinect.” Josh smiled broadly.
Sabrina shoved a few strands of her hair behind her ear. “Cody has the Xbox already, Josh.”
“But does he have Xbox Kinect?”
“No…he doesn’t.”
“Great! One less thing you have to buy him. Now should I give this to you now or wait til later?”
Sabrina took a deep breath as she shook her head. “Josh what are you doing?”
“What do you mean?”
"Are you trying to buy his love or something?”
Josh stared blankly at Sabrina. He sighed in deep thoughts as he placed the wrapped boxes back into the bag he brought them in. “Okay…I will wait.”
“The only thing close to a father figure Cody has…” Sabrina quickly corrected herself saying, “…or should I say ‘had’…was my father. What am I supposed to tell him? Cody, this man is your father. The one who has been sending us money for child support? Now he wants to start spending time with you because he lives in Atlanta now...?” Sabrina said sarcastically as she folded her arms across her chest.
“I know…this is difficult for you…but how do you know it will be difficult for him?”
“Because he’s my child and I know him, Josh.”
Josh looked down at his hands resting on the table. He then looked up at Sabrina and said softly, “He’s my child too, Brin. Don’t forget.”
“I never forgot. You are the one who seem to have forgotten.” Sabrina looked away from him to avoid tears from forming in her eyes.
Within the next instant, their food was being brought to their table. “Can I get you two anything else?” Keri asked as she looked over their food to ensure everything was correct.
“No thanks.” Josh answered for the both of them.
Sabrina looked down at her food suddenly at a loss of appetite. Josh noticed how somberly she was now acting. Josh reached over the table and grasped her hand in comfort as he gazed into her eyes.
“Brin, Im sorry. If you want me to move slow with Cody…I will. I will do anything you think is best for Cody and I, to have a growing relationship. Just…don’t try to prevent me from trying to have that relationship with him now that Im ready. I can’t do this without your help and support.”
Sabrina thought about the words Nick had said on how he felt that Josh was trying to be in his son’s life now. She had to admit…he was trying. Maybe too hard. And she can’t deny him. Sabrina nodded and reluctantly said, “Okay.”
“Okay?” Josh asked with hopeful eyes.
“Okay…I will meet you halfway in trying to get Cody back into your life.”
Josh smiled showing his dimples. He grabbed her hand bringing it up to his lips and kissed it. “Thank you. You, my lady…are the best.” Sabrina gently took her hand back and smiled. “Whatever.”’
Josh laughed and dug into this plate of food.
From that point forward they caught up on each other and Sabrina caught him up on Cody. She told him how funny he was and how protective he was over her. Josh loved every minute of it as they both enjoyed each other’s company over dinner. Josh apologized again for not telling her that Zack was his cousin. He had no idea the connection between the two. Josh told her about his past relationship after their own when he moved to L.A. He claimed he could never move on from Sabrina and remained single for the last 2 years. Sabrina wasn’t sure why he volunteered that information, but he did. Sabrina thought about telling him about Nick, however they weren’t really on talking terms so she wasn’t sure what status they were on. Especially when Joanna was clearly in Nick’s life when he didn’t even tell her. Now it appeared that Josh was trying to come back into her life. Should she allow him to come back into her life, when nothing was going to come of her and Nick’s so-called relationship?
“So what about you? I noticed your aunt here for your support…but no man? Does that mean your single?” Josh asked as he took another forkful of his food.
Sabrina cleared her throat as she scattered her food around with her fork on her plate. “Yeah..my aunt is the best. I don’t know what I would do without her.”
“That’s awesome. Again, im really sorry to hear about your father.”
Sabrina nodded with a faint smile. “He’s in a better place now.”
Josh agreed as he gazed into her eyes. “So…? Are you dating someone or not?” Josh chuckled.
Sabrina giggled. “Dating? No…not really.”
Josh smiled at her. “Not really?”
Sabrina smiled and shrugged her shoulders.
“I take it that there is someone kind of on the sideline..but you’re not really sure about it.”
Sabrina looked at him with a smirk. “You think you know me?”
“Just a little.” Josh laughed.
His smile slowly faded as he gazed longingly at her. Sabrina’s smile slowly faded as she saw the way he looked at her. She remembered that look. It was the look she had fallen for so many years ago. The look she thought she could trust to never break her heart. The look that was supposed to have made her forget that tragic moment in her life when she was 14.
“Can I bring you guys the dessert menu?” Keri the waitress asked as she approached their table.
Sabrina snapped out of his trance and responded with a faint smile, “No. Im stuffed.”
“Can you just bring us the check please?” Josh asked.
“Sure thing.” Keri said taking their plates away.
Moments later Josh walked Sabrina out to her car. Josh stopped and admired her figure as she stood at her car unlocking the door. He rested his hand on top of her car as the night wind bristled thru her hair allowing him to smell her sweet scent. He rubbed the back of his neck as he continued to look her up and down. He cleared his throat when she finally opened her car door. “So uhm…are you sure you don’t want to take this back home to Cody?” he said gesturing to the large plastic bag he was carrying.
Sabrina looked down at the bag and pushed her hair behind her ear. “No…” she then looked up into his eyes and continued, “…you go ahead and take it with you. Give it to him personally yourself?”
Josh looked around as if making sure no one was staring at them for what he wished he could do. Which was to kiss her. He then met her eyes once again as he occasionally lowered them down to her lips as he stepped up very close to her.
“What if I brought it to him personally in about…oh…let’s say in about two weeks?”
Sabrina stepped back into the car as much as she could, however, there was no room for her to move. Josh had her pinned against the car. She found herself staring at his lips and then back up to his eyes. “Two weeks? Don’t say that unless you mean it, Josh. I mean if I—“ Sabrina stopped talking as soon as Josh planted a kiss on her lips.
Sabrina found herself kissing him back for a mere second and then she firmly placed the palms of her hand on his chest and pushed him away. “Josh!” Sabrina said shocked that he kissed her.
Josh took a step away from her. “Im sorry. I know I shouldn’t have done that. Im sorry.”
Sabrina ran her fingers thru her hair pulling it away from her face still taken back by the kiss. Sabrina cleared her throat. “I should go.”
“Well, wait. Can I see you and Cody in two weeks?”
Sabrina hopped into the driver’s seat while Josh closed the door for her. He then leaned down into her window once Sabrina rolled down her window. Josh repeated his question, “Two weeks…you..me..Cody…in Atlanta…maybe a game or two with Xbox Kinect?” he smiled.
Sabrina smiled. “Okay. You better keep in touch. If you can’t come…you better tell me.”
“It’s a date.” Josh smiled broadly.
Sabrina shook her head and revearsed the car out of its park.

Kelly
_ Kelly and Sabrina packed their bags into the car and hopped
inside. Sabrina yawned as she rested her head against the head rest while Kelly
started the car. Kelly quickly blasted the air condition on high. “Geez…it’s
like 6:30 in the morning! Why is it so hot out here? I can only imagine how its
going to feel at noon today.”
Sabrina giggled at her aunt as she watched her pull her hair back into a ponytail. “We’re going straight to the airport, right?”
“No. I was hoping we could sneak into Nick’s room.”
Sabrina looked disappointed.
“I thought we talked about this already. We said we were going to visit him this morning before going back home.” “Okay. Fine. I just don’t want to be bothered with his mother or Joanna.”
Kelly shifted the car into drive and pulled off into the direction of the hospital. “Well, don’t worry about them. I can handle them. We’re there for Nick not them. C’mon, Brin, why are you acting this way?”
Sabrina sighed thinking about Joanna. “Aunt Kelly…Joanna told me she was pregnant with her and Nick’s second child.”
Kelly’s lips formed an ‘O’ shape when she heard the news. “Are you serious?”
Sabrina nodded yes.
“Well…that was before you, right?”
“I would say the same if she was like 9 months pregnant with her belly all out. She’s probably only a few weeks because she is not showing at all. Aunt Kelly, that means Nick lied to me.”
Kelly sighed. “Brin…let’s just focus on the point that Nick is alive and well. Let’s put that on the back burner…for now. Okay?”
Sabrina folded her arms and softly agreed.

Sabrina Outfit
_
Once they arrived at the hospital, Sabrina adjusted her gray
crop t-shirt which hung loosely over her upper body yet short enough to fit as
a midriff. Sabrina nervously swooped her long dark hair around her neck so her
hair could flow over her left shoulder. Sabrina followed her aunt down the
corridor of the hospital as she placed her hands in her back pockets of the
denim jeans she wore.
Kelly knocked lightly on Nick’s door and peeked inside. Nick was alone and slightly sitting up in his bed. He turned to see who was at his door. He smiled when he saw Kelly’s pleasant face. The cream colored shirt she wore made her tanned olive skin seem to pop. He then saw Sabrina following in behind her. He thought she looked hot as she walked into his room as if she were an H&M model. He couldn’t help but smile at the two beautiful women.
“Heyyyy!” Kelly smiled as she walked up to his bed. “Aren’t you up early this morning!” Kelly leaned down and hugged him lightly. Nick welcomed her embrace.
“Yeah, the nurse just came in and woke me up. She was taking my vital signs.” Nick then turned his attention to Sabrina.
Sabrina smiled at him.
Kelly moved to the side to allow Sabrina to greet Nick.
“Hi.” Sabrina said as she leaned down to give him a soft kiss on his cheek.
“Hey…you look nice this morning.” Nick responded softly.
“Oh no…this is just my traveling clothes we bought at the mall the other day.” Sabrina said sticking her hands into her side pockets of her jeans.
“Nick, you look good. Your eye looks really good.” Kelly stated as she walked to the other side of his bed to get a better look of his bad eye. “Yeah, it’s still a little discolored black and blue, but that will soon go away.”
“Yes it will. But it doesn’t matter, because guess what? You’re still our handsome Nicholas.” Kelly smiled.
Nick chuckled and thanked Kelly for her kind comments.
“Where’s your family? Did you spend the night alone?” Kelly asked.
“Uhmmm, Liam took my dad and Joanna back to their hotel late last night. And I think my mom will be coming back up here sometime this morning. Im sure of it.”
“Awe that’s awesome that Liam is here too, right, Brin?” Kelly looked at her niece wondering why she was so quiet.
“Yeah…that’s great.” Sabrina said somberly.
At that moment Nick’s nurse, Brenda, walked in with a few items in her hand. She was shocked to see Nick had visitors this early in the morning. “Well, good morning!”
Both Kelly and Sabrina greeted her with a smile.
“Nick, you always have beautiful women surrounding you. Now you’re going to have to introduce these pretty women to me. I remember her from yesterday.” She smiled at Sabrina.
Nick gestured to Sabrina who had backed away to allow Brenda to tend to Nick, saying, “That’s my girlfriend, Sabrina, and that’s her aunt, Kelly. Guys this is my oh so cool and beautiful nurse, Brenda.”
“Oh so you’re the girlfriend! Nice to formally meet you.” She smiled broadly at Sabrina.
Sabrina gave her a broad smile back. She was slightly stunned to hear Nick call her his girlfriend considering she had barely been there for him. She wondered how he introduced Joanna to his nurse.
“So I take it you have been taking care of our boy, Nick, right, Mrs. Brenda?” Kelly asked with a smile.
“Oh yes! It has been my pleasure! I told him he’s going to have to take a few more walks around the unit floor before we can release him. I know he is so ready to go home.” She paused as she gave him a shot in his arm. She then continued talking specifically to Nick, “Now sweetie my shift is over, and your new nurse is going to be this little thin girl named Amber. She’ll be in here shortly.”
“What if I go home today? That means I won’t see you anymore?” Nick teased the nurse with a grin.
“Awe, suga!” she turned to look at both Kelly and Sabrina. “He is such a doll. Sabrina you are a lucky girl to have him in your life. If I was 20 plus years younger I might have to steal him away.” She laughed while everyone joined in her laughter. She patted Nick’s arm. “Don’t let me see you again tonight.” She smiled and winked at him. She nodded with a smile to Kelly and Sabrina and left the room.
“She was sweet. I would love to have her take care of me.” Kelly giggled as she folded her arms.
Sabrina stared at Nick with a faint smile on her face.
“Yeah. She’s awesome.” Nick responded looking at Sabrina.
Kelly noticed their awkward stares amongst each other. “Well…we have some time before our flight leaves. Im going to go down to the cafeteria and see what I can grab to eat. I think it would be awesome if Brin can help you take one of those walks around the floor that Mrs. Brenda was talking about. What do you guys think?” Kelly asked as she exchanged glances between both Sabrina and Nick.
“I guess.” Nick hesitated.
Before Sabrina had a chance to respond, Kelly said with a smile, “Great! I’ll be back.” She gave Sabrina another look as if saying ‘just do it.’ She then left out of the room leaving Sabrina and Nick alone in the room.
Sabrina began fidgeting with her hands as she looked at Nick. “Uhmm…are you up for that walk this early morning?”
“Only if you are willing to help me and not push me down.” Nick smirked.
Sabrina giggled. “I wouldn’t do that, Nick.” She said as she walked closer to him helping him with the blankets that were lying over him. “Okay…well you have to tell me what to do, because I don’t want to hurt you by touching you in the wrong spot or something.”
Nick slowly sat up and swung his legs over the side of the bed with a grimace. “Nah, your okay. I can take it.”
Sabrina saw his comfortable slippers on the floor. She quickly picked them up and gently slid them over his sock covered feet. Nick couldn’t help but admire her beauty as she kept a serious and concentrated expression. Nick chuckled. Sabrina brought her eyes up to meet his. “What?”
“Nothing. Can you see yourself doing this when we’re old in age? Taking care of each other?”
“No. I figured Joanna would be doing this.” Sabrina blurted out without looking at him.
She said it as if she hadn’t thought twice about what she just said. She continued to help Nick stand up from his bed as she held his arm and placing her other hand on his back. Nick frowned to hear what she said about Joanna.
“What?” he asked with a deep tone sounding a little upset.
Sabrina looked up at him. “Nothing. C’mon, stand up.”
“No, what did you just say?” Nick frowned at her.
“Babe, nothing. I was joking.” Sabrina said nonchalantly. “C’mon.” Sabrina urged Nick to stand.
Nick put a little weight on her as he stood up from his bed. She could hear him grunt as he stood straight. “Can you please hand me another hospital gown? I can’t walk around with my ass out.”
Sabrina smiled at the thought and handed him another hospital gown. As she helped him put it on as if it were a coat, she took a peek at his naked butt.
“Why not? You have a cute butt.”
Nick lightly chuckled even though he was still upset at what she just said.
“Can I see your bandages?” Sabrina asked him.
Nick pulled the two hospital gowns apart to show her the side of his torso from where Jacob had stabbed him. Sabrina softly touched his side, lightly running her fingers over his bandages. She could feel his eyes burning into her so she looked up into his eyes. “Does that hurt?” she asked softly.
“No.” Nick said with a slight frown on his face while staring at her.
Sabrina took a deep breath and closed the hospital gowns together to ensure no one could see his nakedness underneath. “Okay, so, I think I should stand on the opposite side of you so I wont push against your wounds.” Sabrina stood on his right side taking his right arm and wrapping it around her neck while she wrapped her left arm around his waist. “Is this okay?” she asked looking up at him.
“Yep.” Nick said as he slowly started to take a few steps.
As they reached the door some of the nurses sitting at the nurses station smiled at the couple as they slowly made their way down the corridor of the hospital.
“How do you feel? Are you okay?” Sabrina asked concerned.
“Yep.” Nick said as he slightly winced feeling a little pain.
They continued to walk in silence as Sabrina would look into other patient’s rooms. Nick then suddenly asked, “Why did you mention Joanna a while back?”
“Really Nick? That was so 30 minutes ago. I was joking.” Sabrina snapped.
“Did she say something to you?”
Sabrina remained quiet as they slowly continued to walk.
Nick noticed that she wasn’t going to respond to him. He decided to change the subject. “How was your dinner date last night with Josh?”
“It was great, thanks.” Sabrina said nonchalantly. She thought about Josh kissing her, but she definitely wasn't going to tell Nick about it.
Nick smacked his teeth. “It was great…thanks?” Nick mocked her.
“What do you want me to say?”
“Nothing.” Nick said fuming with frustration.
Sabrina gave a sarcastic laugh. “What’s with your attitude towards me lately?”
“I don’t have an attitude.”
“Yeah…you do.”
“No I don’t.”
“Nick, yes you do.”
“Alright, fine. Why haven’t I seen you?” Nick blurted out to her.
“What are you talking about? Im here now.”
“My first time seeing you was yesterday and you run off because you have a dinner date with Cody’s father?”
“Weren’t you the one who told me to give him a chance because he was trying?” Sabrina said frustrated as she furrowed her eyebrows at him.
“I get that, but damn…how about spending some time with me, your boyfriend, first?”
“Oh my God…your so freaking jealous.” Sabrina said avoiding eye contact with him.
She then asked changing the subject in reference to walking down the corridor, “How far do we go?”
“I think we can turn around and go back to the room now.” Nick said a little angry.
Sabrina agreed as they slowly turned around.
Nick pulled his arm away from around Sabrina and distanced himself from her as he continued to walk slowly back to his room.
“What, you don’t need my help anymore?” Sabrina asked as he separated himself from her.
“I got it.” Nick said slightly holding his hand out not wanting her to come any closer to him.
Sabrina noticed how upset he was. “You have some nerve getting angry at me, Nick.” Sabrina said in a low tone thru her teeth as she folded her arms across her chest.
“Can you blame me for being upset? Can you blame me for being just a little jealous, when im basically in here because of you! And you’re not even here? Looks who’s not being supportive now, Brin.” Nick said angrily trying not to speak loud as they continued to walk slowly down the hall.
“Really, Nick? Really? I didn’t tell you to fight Jacob! I never said, Nick please make sure you break his nose for me. And while you’re at it, fight Roger and Paul for me too!”
“They jumped me!” Nick yelled slightly loud allowing some people in their room to look out into the hallway.
By this time they both have stopped walking and were standing in the middle of the corridor.
“But I didn’t put you in here, Nick! Apparently you and your mother think alike because she definitely blames me for you almost losing your life.”
“That’s not true –“
“What else is not true? What about the fact that you and Joanna are not even supposed to like each other? Or let alone even talk to each other. You said your only line of any kind of communication with her is when it only pertains to Joss. But that’s not true either, right? That’s why she’s fucking pregnant with your second child?”
Nick was speechless. Clearly Joanna had spoken to her. Sabrina walked off from Nick leaving him standing in the middle of the corridor looking at her back as she walked. Sabrina stopped as if remembering why she was out in the corridor in the first place. To make sure Nick walked back to his room. She placed her hands in her back pockets of her jeans. She turned around and looked at Nick.
“Are you coming or what?”
Nick stared at her for a moment. He then looked down at the floor and started to walk slowly in her direction. They continued to walk slowly back into his room.
Sabrina watched Nick slowly sit back down on his bed as he slid his feet out from his slippers. Sabrina picked his slippers up and placed them back into the spot she had retrieved them.
“Im gonna go find my aunt before we’re late for our flight.” Sabrina said flatly as she grabbed her purse and started to walk out of his room. “Wait…Brin. You’re just going to leave like this?”
Sabrina slowly turned around to look at Nick. She extended her arms out and flapped them down to her sides as if she no longer had any hope. “I don’t know what else to say. I mean your silence just told me everything.”
“No it didn’t.” Nick said with a frown on his face as if he had just eaten something sour.
“Well, you didn’t defend the fact that she’s pregnant with your child. All I know is that you lied to me, Nick.”
“Well what about you. You lied to me.”
“About what?”
“Why would you sleep with a guy who was Zack’s cousin if you were so devastated that Zack raped you? I mean…who does that?”
Sabrina let out a loud sarcastic laugh. “Are you kidding me? Do you really believe that?”
Nick remained silent as he kept his eyes narrowed at her.
“Oh my God…” Sabrina mumbled to herself. His silence once again answered her question. He truly believed that. She thought for a moment and continued, “I can’t believe this. It’s like im talking to Zack’s attorney all over again.” Sabrina shook her head. She then shoved her hair away from her face with her fingers. “I can’t…I can’t do this, Nick.”
“Do what?”
“This. We argue too much. We disagree too much. We obviously can’t communicate. And you will never believe that I was raped by your fellow mighty Dolphins. You’re like everyone else..and clearly you won’t change.” Sabrina paused and hesitated before she continued. “I can’t and I won’t keep doing this with you.”
Nick stared at her with a puzzled expression. “Wh … what are you saying?”
Sabrina looked as if she wanted to cry. She shrugged her shoulders. She looked everywhere in the hospital room but at Nick. “Im in Atlanta…you’re in Gainesville. You’re about to have another child with Joanna…”
“Wait…first of all…we don’t know that yet. We don’t know for sure if she’s pregnant with my child.”
Sabrina sighed. “But Nick…the fact of the matter is that…you could be. It shouldn’t even be a factor. That is…if I believed what you said about no contact with her. It’s like you’ve been hiding this info from me all of this time. Maybe all of this was a mistake. Maybe we shouldn’t have crossed the friendship line.”
Nick stared at Sabrina with hurt in his eyes. “Are you breaking up with me?”
A tear escaped down Sabrina’s cheek.
She quickly wiped it away when she heard a knock at his door and opened.
“Nicholas, sweetie, you’re up early this morning!” Nick’s mom, Sandra, said in a loud chipper tone. She totally ignored Sabrina and didn’t acknowledge her in the room. “How do you feel?”
Nick kept his eyes on Sabrina as Sabrina turned away from them to make sure her eyes were dry from tears.
“Nicholas?” Sandra said trying to get Nick’s attention.
“Mom, can you give us a second?” Nick asked his mother in a serious deep tone as he continued to look at Sabrina.
Sandra looked confused. She turned to see Sabrina. “Oh…did I walk in on something?”
Sabrina finally turned around as she plastered a smile on her face. “No. It’s okay. I was just leaving.”
“No…you weren’t.” Nick stated firmly.
“I have a flight to catch.” Sabrina said as she tried to avoid Nick’s eye contact. She continued, “Sandra it was good to see you again.” Sabrina turned to leave.
“Sabrina!” Nick called out to her.
Sabrina kept walking as she walked out leaving his room.
“Well, let her go, sweetie. She doesn’t want to stay.” Sandra said as she watched Sabrina leave.
“No…Sabri—“ Nick stopped and grunted in pain when he moved too fast trying to get up from his bed wanting to go after her.
Sandra frowned and made sure he got back into his bed. “Honey, stop it. It’s too late. She’s gone. Don’t keep hurting yourself for this girl, do you understand me?”
“Mom, Im not a little kid anymore.” Nick tried to protest to his mother feeling pain.
“Well, Im still your mother and I care about your well being so just stop, Nicholas Lancaster.”
Nick was in too much pain to even fight against his mother. He laid down on his pillow and rubbed his head as if he had a headache thinking about Sabrina. He cursed silently to himself as he thought about how easy it was for Sabrina to just walked away from him.
