Chapter 16 --(Selena)
Selena Romez & Arianna Grant
“Arianna, I am so sorry, but that club was so packed I couldn’t even get a drink. Thanks for understanding, because I know how much you wanted to stay and scope out the place out.” I said to my friend Arianna Grant as we sat at the table near the window at a bar grill place called Lucy St. Pats.
As she took her seat she flipped her long, red velvet hair behind her shoulders. “It’s totally okay. We don’t have much competition in here to get a guy to buy us a drink.” She laughed.
I laughed with her as I took in the view out the window. New York never slept. The streets were busy with people walking down the sidewalks going to their destinations. The people were mostly college students since N.Y.U was in the neighborhood. Plus, Arianna and I stayed close by along with Joe’s apartment building that was right down the street. Arianna knew this, which is another reason why I think she chose this place.
After the waitress took our drink orders, I heard Arianna say to me, “Hey, you should call Joe. Tell him to come down. Since we both look hot and all.” She smiled cutely.
I rolled my eyes thinking about how Joe appeared to be so love sick over his new chick, Summer. “Don’t count on it. He’s probably draped all over his new girlfriend.” I said looking off into the distance. I noticed one of Shane’s friends he'd always hung around. “Hey isn’t that Brian Austin Green over there?” I said pointing into the far corner of the bar.
Arianna turned around to follow the direction in which I was pointing. “Yeah…that’s him. Asshole.”
I looked at her with my eyebrows raised. I wasn’t expecting that reaction. “Something you want to tell me about him?” I asked almost on the verge of laughing.
“He’s a wham, bam, thank you ma’am.”
I gasped. “You two hooked up?”
“It was a total mistake. I was trying to get close to Shane, in order to get close to Joe. It all backfired somehow and... Brian and I hooked up instead.”
I started to laugh at her nonsense of a way to get to Joe.
“Why didn’t you just ask me to hook you up with Joe instead of going around smashing the homies!” Arianna quickly balled up a small napkin and playfully threw it at me. “That was before I knew you, Selena! Don’t judge me!” She started to laugh.
“Speaking of Shane…I wonder if Joe heard from him yet?”
“You should totally call Joe and ask him…and then see if he wants to come down and join us for drinks.”
I shook my head at Arianna with a smile on face.
At that moment the waitress came back with our alcoholic drinks.
After a few more drinks and some guys trying to hit on us, I looked out the window and couldn’t believe my eyes. Wait…am I drunk and seeing things? There was a girl walking down the side walk swaying her hips and looking straight ahead. She was walking in the direction toward Joe’s apartment building. The girl was Summer. She wore a white top that was clearly unbuttoned to purposely expose her black bra, short black shorts, stiletto heels, and black framed eye glasses. This wasn’t the Summer I was used to seeing in Professor Nicholson’s History class every day. Was she going to Joe’s apartment? I suddenly started to feel uneasy. Was she walking to Joe’s apartment so they could have another intimate moment? I found myself scoffing at her as I watched her starting to walk right past me from the outside. Should I speak when she looks in my direction? Yea, I probably should.
“Hey, Ari, don’t look now, but this girl who is about to past by our window, is the girl who Joe is seeing now. Her name is Summer.” I said keeping my eyes on Summer ready to wave hello to her.
Arianna turned her attention to the window to see Summer.
Summer and I locked eyes just as she past. I smiled ready to wave when she turned away from me and kept going. She didn’t even acknowledge me. She looked at me as if she didn’t even know me. My mouth slightly dropped open in shock.
“I can’t believe, Summer. That bitch.” I said loud enough for Arianna to hear.
Arianna only kept her eyes on Summer as she continued to walk down the street. I turned around to now face Arianna again. I took another sip of my drink and paused when I saw Arianna’s face. She looked like she had seen a ghost.
“Ari? What’s wrong?”
“Who did you say that was?” she said in a daze still looking out the window.
“Summer. Summer Lovato." I answered. "And let me tell you…she does not dress like that on an everyday basis. She usually wears like—“
Arianna hopped up from the table and ran outside before I could finish my sentence.
Confused, I hopped up and followed Arianna out into the busy crowd of people walking down the street.
“Arianna!” I called out to her trying to catch up. I couldn’t walk or run too fast because of my high heel pumps I was wearing.
I could hear Arianna scream out a name, “AUTUMN!!” She then suddenly stopped walking.
I looked into the distance. Who was Arianna calling for? I no longer saw Summer walking ahead in the distance. It was like she had disappeared into the crowd. I finally caught up to Arianna slightly out of breath.
“Hey! What’s up?” I asked curious as to why she hopped up from our table and began chasing someone down. I looked into her face and she still looked as if she saw a ghost. “Do you know Summer?”
“Yeah.” Arianna said with hesitation and placing both hands on her hips.
“Then who is Autumn?” I asked confused.
I had heard that name somewhere before, but couldn’t quite remember.
Arianna looked at me with a worried expression. “Her twin sister.”
I then suddenly remembered Joe saying something earlier in the day about Summer’s sister, Autumn, being with Shane.
“Ohhh yeah…I remembered Joe saying something about her today. She didn’t hear you?”
“No…she heard me, because she stopped and turned to look me dead in the eye.”
“Hmmm…” I said thinking how weird the situation was. “So, what’s Autumn’s problem?”
The alcohol we had consumed must have made me a little on the dumb side, because when I heard Arianna’s response, it made me even more confused.
Arianna responded, “That’s not Autumn.”
