Chapter 20
_ Attorney Eva Mendez sat in her chair behind her desk as she
looked at both Demi and Sabrina sitting across from her. She had so many
thoughts running thru her mind after hearing what both Demi and Sabrina told
her about their encounter with the defendant Zack Efron. Eva bounced her pen
up and down on her legal pad sitting in front of her on her desk as she
continued to have deep thoughts. She then focused on Sabrina narrowing her
eyes. She tilted her head to the side and hesitated before speaking. “Roger
Efron, Zack Efron’s brother, and Paul Wesley were both eighteen at the time of
the assualt, correct?”
Sabrina nodded her head quietly saying, ”Yes.”
Eva shoved a note pad in front of Sabrina on the desk and handed her a pen. “Here. Write down the name of the abortion clinic you went to abort the baby. Zack’s brother and friend are going to be in for a surprise.”
Sabrina exchanged glances with Demi as if asking for reassurance. Demi smiled and nodded at her. Sabrina began writing the info down on the note pad Eva provided to her.
Eva looked over to Demi. “I think I want you to go on the stand first. Sabrina you will be last. I don’t even want you ladies in the courtroom until it’s time for you to go on the stand. I will have the bailiff come escort you in when its that time. I don’t want you to feel intimidated in the courtroom while waiting for your time on the stand.”
Both Sabrina and Demi nodded as they listened intently to Eva.
Sabrina slid the notepad back over toward Eva once she was done writing the info of the abortion clinic.
“Gracias.” Eva said as she looked over the info. She then quickly looked it up on her computer searching for a number.
Sabrina thought Eva looked so calm, and so very well put together, while she could feel her own body trembling with fear and nervousness. She was so nervous as she kept wiping her sweaty palms on the black skirt she wore. Sabrina straightened her gray top she wore under her black cardigan and pulled down her skirt to cover her knees as she sat. She glanced over at Demi who also had a nervous expression on her face. Demi nervously scratched the back of her head as she pushed a few loose strands up into her ponytail. Sabrina placed her hand on Demi’s forearm in comfort. Demi smiled at Sabrina as if giving her silent thank you. Sabrina brought her attention back to Eva as Eva cleared her throat and began writing some info down on her legal pad.
Eva glanced up at the two women sitting in her office. She smiled as if trying to ease their nerves. “In case I haven’t said it already, Im going to say it again. Thank you so much for doing this.”
Before Eva could continue there was a knock at her office door. “Come in.” Eva said out loud for the person knocking on the other side of the door to come in.
A man wearing eye glasses, red vest, tie and black trousers walked in with a beautiful brunette girl closely behind him. Eva stood up with a smile. “Good timing, Christopher.” Eva said to the man as he walked further into her office.
“I have Maria with me.” He said gesturing to the woman who walked in with him.
“Fantastic.” Eva extended her arm to wrap it around Maria’s shoulders.
She escorted her further into her office as the man with the eye glasses pulled up another chair for Maria. “Maria, this is Demi and Sabrina. They are here to testify against Zack.”
Maria greeted both of the girls. “Thank you so much for doing this.”
Eva took her seat behind her desk as the girls greeted each other. The man with the eye glasses leaned against her office window sill with a legal notepad in his hands.
“Demi, Sabrina, this is Christopher, my legal assistant.” Eva said pointing to the man wearing the eye glasses. He nodded to the girls with a smile. “Now... this is very important that you all listen to what Im about to tell you. The defense attorney will be rude and shrewd. He won’t care, and he won’t believe your story. He will make you feel like whatever happened to you, was all your fault. He will make you feel like you deserved what happened to you. He will make you feel like your story is wrong and you are falsely accusing the defendant. Whatever he says or however he questions you…don’t allow him to shake your confidence. Remember, you did not deserve what happened to you and it was not your fault. Answer everything truthfully. Understand?”
All the girls nodded yes.
Eva smiled in comfort to the three girls. “Good. We can do this ladies. Now…I will meet you ladies at the court house.”
“Demi and Sabrina, you ladies can meet me in the lobby on the 8th floor at the courthouse.” Christopher said escorting them out the door while Maria remained with Eva.

Orange County Courthouse
_ Demi, Sabrina, Kelly, and Raven walked down the hall as
their heels clicked on the marble tile floors. Kelly had her arm linked in
Sabrina’s arm as they walked.
“Oh, here it is ladies. Courtroom 2-B.” Raven said looking at the sign just outside the door.
Demi took a deep breath as she looked at the closed doors. “I wonder if Taylor is already inside.”
“You think Taylor will be here?” Sabrina asked in shock.
“Of course. That’s his wife. I wonder if her side kick, Victoria will be in there too.” Demi responded.
“Yeah, well…maybe his wife and her best friend need to know what kind of an asshole she married.” Raven said placing her hand on her hips.
Sabrina could feel her aunt wrap her arm tighter in comfort.
“So you guys are going to wait for that legal assistant guy, right?” Kelly asked Sabrina.
“Yes. He should be here shortly.” Sabrina replied.
She thought about Cody and his first day of school. She wished she was there, but thankfully, her aunt’s husband, Derek, will be there to pick him up and take care of him until they all returned home. She thought about Nick and how she wished he was there with her. Raven, once again took off from work to be there for support. Raven was a true friend….unlike Taylor never was to Sabrina. Sabrina thought that if Raven kept requesting days off from work she would get fired. However, Raven reassured her that all was okay. But she would have to return to work the very next day.
Kelly made sure to be there for Sabrina no matter what. Sabrina and Cody had been staying with Kelly ever since someone had broken into her house. The police still didn’t have any leads as far as who it may have been. The things Nick told her, the police said was not enough evidence to prove anything against Roger, Paul nor Zack.
“Ladies.” Christopher said as he briskly walked down the hall with his blazer jacket and briefcase in his hands. “Eva and her client, Maria, are on their way up shortly. If I can get your friends and family inside while you, Demi and Sabrina, stay out here with me.”
They all agreed.
Kelly and Raven gave both Demi and Sabrina a hug. “We’ll see you inside.” Kelly whispered to Sabrina as she hugged her.
“Okay.” Sabrina said softly welcoming her aunt’s embrace.
Raven extended her hand for Kelly as they walked inside hand in hand.
“Oh, here it is ladies. Courtroom 2-B.” Raven said looking at the sign just outside the door.

Raven extended her hand for Kelly as they walked inside hand in hand.
_ As Raven and Kelly walked inside, there were a few people
sitting inside. Raven immediately saw Taylor and Victoria. She pointed them out
to Kelly. Kelly glared over at the girls Raven pointed out to her. “I remember
Taylor.” Kelly said flatly as she looked straight ahead at the empty chair for
the judge.
Raven rolled her eyes at both Taylor and Victoria and started to look around the room. She recognized some of the people sitting in the chairs around her. She didn’t know them personally, but she remembered their faces from Sabrina’s Class of 2001 high school reunion.
The doors opened and in walks Attorney Eva Mendez and her client Maria. Her legal assistant Christopher was close behind them as well. Raven thought Eva looked so poised in her white blouse and black pencil skirt with her hair up in a neat ponytail. Eva and Christopher spoke quietly as Maria sat between them. It was obvious that Maria tried to keep minimum eye contact with Zack, her attacker.
Zack and his defense attorney Rob Patterson walked into the courtroom from another door in the courtroom. Zack wore a nicely fitted suit for a typical business man. He didn’t look like any sort of criminal. He actually looked like he could work with the attorneys who were representing him. His defense attorney wore a sharp dark navy suit and a crisp white shirt and a black and white polka dot tie. His eye glasses were on the top of his head until he reached their table and sat down. As he glanced over some paperwork, he lowered his eye glasses down onto his face.
Shortly after, everyone in the courtroom was asked to rise out of their seat for respect of the judge walking into the courtroom.
Outside of the courtroom in the hall sat Sabrina and Demi. Demi sighed as she looked down at her hands. She was clearly nervous. As well as Sabrina. Sabrina started to feel knots in her stomach once again as she became nervous. “Im going to the restroom. I’ll be back.”
Demi looked at Sabrina as she stood up excusing herself. “Are you okay? You look sick.”
“I suddenly feel sick. I’ll be back.” Sabrina said as she quickly rushed down the hall around the corner to go to the restroom.
Demi decided to remain in her seat. Since she would be first to go in and testify, she didn’t know when they would come get her so she stayed.
Sabrina rushed into one of the stall doors and lifted the toilet as she began to vomit. Her orange juice and particles of her granola bar were now staring back up at her from the inside of the toilet. Sabrina quickly flushed the toilet and slowly walked out of the stall over to the sink. Sabrina groaned as she ran her fingers thru her long dark hair pulling it away from her face. Turning the faucet on, Sabrina cupped her hands under the cold water and brought the water up to her lips. She swished the water around into her mouth and spit it back out into the sink trying to get the vomit taste out of her mouth. As she dug into her purse looking for a piece of gum, the restroom door opened. Sabrina didn’t bother to look up until she felt a pair of eyes burning into her.
Just when Sabrina found a stick of Wrigley’s Winterfresh gum in her purse, she raised her eyes up to the mirror staring at her new visitor’s reflection. It was Taylor. The two women stared at each other for a moment. Sabrina then continued to open the wrapper to her gum and popped it into her mouth. She then straightened the things in her purse and prepared to leave the restroom.
“What are you doing here, Sabrina?” Taylor asked just as Sabrina was going to pass her.
Sabrina stopped and looked at Taylor. “I guess you will soon find out.” Sabrina said as she started walking toward the door to leave.
Taylor glared at Sabrina. “You’re nothing but trouble. You always have been.”
Sabrina stopped and looked back at Taylor. “What makes you think Im the one who’s trouble?” Sabrina paused as she stared at Taylor. She continued, “Maybe you should look at the people who have been close around you over the past few years. They are the ones who are trouble, Taylor.” Sabrina said referring to Zack.

Taylor
_ “Why are you here, Sabrina? To support Zack or to see him
fail like Demi wants to see him fail? I saw her outside of the courtroom. She’s
nothing but a conniving bitch. So, if you’re here to see him fail, just know
that you are in the minority.”
Sabrina only stared blankly at Taylor.
“Everyone here is on Zack’s side. Everyone loves Zack, and you will see.” Taylor said as she no longer looked at Sabrina or cared if she were going to leave.
“What do you mean everyone is here?” Sabrina asked slightly shocked.
“Almost the whole football team is here. Roger and Paul too. Maybe you should go say hi to everyone. That is if you’re here to support Zack.” Taylor sneered.
Sabrina glared at Taylor. She then quickly opened the door and walked out of the restroom without saying another word.
Was it true? Was the whole football team there? Sabrina wondered as she chomped on her gum. Her nervousness slowly crept back up. She could feel her stomach make twists and turns. She silently prayed hoping that she wouldn’t vomit again. She couldn’t go back into the restroom while Taylor was still in there. She wasn’t ready to turn that corner and see Demi waiting outside of the courtroom where the entire football team would be. Sabrina quickly turned the opposite way from the courtroom and rushed past the restroom to escape from the area completely. She needed some fresh air.

Inside the Courtroom
_“Where’s Sabrina?” Christopher whispered to Demi as he
escorted her into the courtroom.
“I don’t know. She said she was going to the restroom, but I haven’t seen her since.”
“Okay.” Christopher said with a worried expression as he looked down both ways of the hallway prior to walking completely back inside the courtroom.
Demi felt like she was walking down the green mile as she approached the witness stand with a courtroom full of eyes burning into her. A man in what looked like a sheriffs uniform walked up to Demi and asked her to place her left hand on the bible he extended out to her and to raise her right hand.
“Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?”
“I do.” Demi said softly.
“You may be seated.” The baliff said firmly.
Demi sat down and briefly looked over to her right to see Zack and his attorneys sitting at a table.
Eva smiled as she approached Demi, giving her a reassuring comfort. “Can you state your full name please, for the court?” “Uhmm..Demetria Lovasto.” Demi responded with nervousness.
“Demetria, can you please tell the court how you know Zack Efron?”
“We went to the same high school. NorthSide High in Atlanta Georgia.”
“What year was that please?”
“From 1997 – 2001.”
“Were you close to him in your early years in high school?”
“I would say so. We dated our junior year in high school.”
“The whole junior school year? From the years 1999-2000?”
“Yes.”
“How was the relationship?” Eva asked with a smile trying to give Demi comfort.
“It was really good in the beginning. He was on the football team and I was a cheerleader. We were like the typical high school couple.”
“Until he started physically hitting you.”
“Objection your honor!” Zack’s attorney Rob shouted as he stood up from his seat adjusting his eye glass frames. “She’s putting words into the witness’s mouth. That’s absurd.”
“Nevermind.” Eva quickly said as if trying to shut Rob up from talking. “Your honor, I will rephrase the question.” Eva then looked at Demi, “When did he start hitting you?”
“Objection your honor! The witness never said anything about him hitting her.” Rob stood up and shouted loudly.
“Sustained. Counselor, I suggest you change direction.” Judge Alexander stated firmly to Eva.
Eva started to rebuttal, but declined against doing so. Instead she calmly walked toward the table where her client, Maria and her legal assistant Christopher sat. She looked down at a few notes and continued speaking to Demi. “What happened on the last day of school of your junior year?”
“Zack and I were at his house on our way to celebrate with our classmates for finally making it thru the school year and becoming seniors. Our classmate, Jacob Lautner, was having a house party so we were going to go there. I was talking to a friend of mine on my cell phone and Zack just snapped at me.”
“Snapped at you? What do you mean?”
“He was angry about something. I can’t really remember, but I know he had been drinking.”
“How do you know?”
“I saw him holding a can of beer in his hand. His speech was slurred and I could smell it on his breath.”
“I see. So, what else happened?” Eva asked as she slowly paced across the courtroom floor.
“He snatched my phone away throwing my phone across the room. I yelled at him, calling him names because I was upset that he just broke my phone. That’s when he slapped me and told me to shut up.”
“He slapped you?”
“Yes.”
“Open hand slap or closed fist?”
“Open hand. With the back of his hand.” Demi demonstrated with her hand.
“Was that the first time he slapped you or physically put his hands on you in a violent way?”
“Yes.”
“Did it become regular?”
“Not really. I mean…he would just shove me around as the summer came and went.”
“I see. What happened during the summer before school started for your senior year?”
Demi cleared her throat and became fidgety in her seat. “Uhm…I was at cheer camp and all the cheerleaders were at the school getting ready to make signs for the first day of school to have a pep rally. Everyone was wearing t-shirts and shorts. The football team were at the school as well…”
“And Zack is in the football team, correct?”
“Ye—“
“Objection your honor! We have already clarified this information, this is repetitive.” Rob interrupted speaking loudly.
“Over ruled. Carry on Counselor.” The judge replied flatly.
“Thank you.” Eva smirked at Rob as if saying ‘nah-nah-nah boo-boo’.
She then continued as she looked at Demi. “Zack is on the football team, correct?”
“Yes.” Demi responded without being interrupted.
“Okay, finish telling the court what happened that day.”
“Well, all the cheerleaders started talking to the football team. They all were done with practice and talking about going up the street to the local gas station and picking up some alcohol. Zack’s brother, Roger was coming to pick him up. When Roger came, Zack told me to come with him. I agreed and all of us got into the car.”
“Who all was in the car?”
“Roger was driving, I sat in the front with Zack, and Taylor, Victoria and Jacob were in the back seat. Some of the other football players met up with us at the gas station, which were, Nick, Liam, Corbin and Arnez.”
“These are all students of NorthSide High Class of 2001, correct?”
“Yes…well, everyone except for Zack’s older brother Roger. They were really close brothers.”
“How close would you say Zack and Roger were?”
Demi wasn’t sure how to answer as she hesitated for a response.
“Close enough to share girlfriends?” Eva added as if helping Demi to respond.
“Objection!” Rob shouted.
“I withdraw the question, your honor.” Eva replied with a sarcastic smile. She continued looking at Demi, “Demetria finish telling the court what happened that day you all went to the gas station.”
“Well, everyone was drinking. Zack was really taking in all the alcohol heavily. He would glare at me whenever I was talking to any of the other football players besides him. When I was talking to his friend Nick, he grabbed my arm and pulled me around to the side of the gas station building. He told me to stop acting like a slut and the next thing I knew, he slapped me across my face.”
“How did you respond?”
“I wanted to hit him back, but Nick and Arnez, the other football players, came around the corner and pulled us apart.”
“What happened next?”
“Well, after everyone calmed down, the guys went their separate ways while Roger dropped everyone off who was in his car home. It was only Roger, Zack and I in Roger’s car.”
“What was the seating arrangement before everyone was dropped off?”
“Roger drove, Jacob sat in the front with Victoria in the middle, and Taylor, Zack and I sat in the back seat with Zack being in the middle.”
“So, once everyone was dropped off, you and Zack stayed in the back seat, correct?"
“Yes. I asked Roger to take me home, but Zack insisted that Roger take me back to their house.” Demi paused as she thought about that day. “Zack started to kiss my neck and I was still upset with him for hitting me earlier, so I told him to stop. But he kept going. So…I shoved him off of me telling him to stop. That’s when he grabbed my neck and started to basically climb all over me. I shouted for his brother to stop the car and to tell him to make Zack stop, but he did nothing. The more I tried to push Zack off of me, the stronger he got and I could feel his hands grip tighter around my neck. He forced me to lie down pushing me hard against the car door. I thought I would fall out the car door, but I guess the door was locked. I kept telling Zack, that I couldn’t breathe and to get off of me. I then felt him spreading my legs and ripping my purple biking shorts that I wore. I screamed as loud as I could, ‘ZACK STOP!’ But he wouldn’t stop. It was like he were someone else. His eyes…were different. I could hear Roger in the front seat saying, ‘Get it Zack. Yeah, get it.’ It was like Zack was his little cheerleader and it gave him more ammunition. Zack hit me hard in my face to make me stop fighting him. He busted my lip and I remember I could taste my own blood.” Demi said as her voice quivered as if she were about to cry. She slowly continued, “I finally stopped fighting and he raped me in the back seat of the car while his brother was in the front seat.” Demi said as Eva handed her a kleenex to wipe her tears away.
“How many times did you tell him to stop and tell him no?” Eva asked Demi with sincerity.
“Too many times. I can’t remember.”
“No more further questions your honor.” Eva said as she gave Demi a comforting smile.
“Counselor Patterson…would you like to cross examine the witness?” the judge calmly asked Zack’s attorney, Rob.
“Most certainly.” Rob said adjusting his eye glasses frames on his face.
He walked up to Demi with his hands behind his back. “Ms. Lovasto, you said you’ve known my client Zack since high school, correct?” “Yes.” Demi said as she sniffed.
“Would you consider him the ‘popular kid’?”
Demi shrugged. “I guess you can say that.”
“Was he the heart throb at NorthSide High?”
“He was well known, yes. A lot of girls thought he was cute…yes.”
“Were you one of those girls, Ms. Lovasto?”
Demi wiped her nose with the Kleenex as she responded, “Yes.”
Rob began pacing the floor slowly as he spoke without making any kind of eye contact with Demi. “How bad did you want to date my client, Zack?”
“Excuse me?”
“Was there anything you would have done to date Mr. Zack Efron?”
Demi hesitated not sure how to respond.
Rob continued, “Were you willing to do anything, that you made friends with the popular girls to join the cheerleading squad so you could become that typical cheerleader who dates the heartthrob jockey football player?”
“Objection your honor! Speculation!” Eva shouted from her seat.
“Oh Im sorry, perhaps I should have just ask the question. I was only helping Ms. Lovasto to understand the original question, your honor.” Rob said with sarcasm.
“Sustained. Mr. Patterson behave yourself in my courtroom.” Jusge Alexander said unamused.
Rob smiled sarcastically and continued to speak to Demi. “Since you were a cheerleader in highschool, did you become best friends with Zack’s current wife, Taylor?”
“Yes, we were friends.”
“When did you both stop being friends? After you realized she was after ‘your’ Zack and eventually ended up marrying him and having his child?”
“What? No! It was nothing like that.”
“Mmm-hmm…I see…” Rob said not believing Demi. He then quickly changed the subject. “So, you say he hit you, correct?”
“Yes. He did.” Demi said finding herself on the defense proving her truth.
“Ever tell anyone?”
“No…I—“
“Why not?”
“I … I don’t know.”
“You dated my client for how long?”
“Almost a year.”
“How many times did you all have sex?”
“Objection, your honor, c’mon, is that necessary?” Eva shouted loudly from her seat in disbelief.
“Im simply trying to build character.” Rob stated with sarcasm.
“Rephrase your question counselor.” The judge demanded flatly.
Rob sighed and continued. “Did you two have a sexual relationship?”
“Yes.” Demi responded.
“Have you two ever role played?”
“Role play?” Demi asked confused.
“Yes. Role play in the bedroom? For example, pretend that he was a stranger and then you would pretend that you didn’t want to have sex with him. So you two basically role play that he was raping you. Have you two ever role play that scene in the bedroom before?”
Demi looked down. “Yes.” She admitted quietly.
“Speak up, I can’t hear you.” Rob demanded.
Demi looked up with her eyes welling up with tears. “Yes.” She said louder. “…but that only happened once.”
“So, is it possible you all were role playing in the back seat of Zack’s brother, Roger, car?” Rob raised his voice speaking loudly at Demi. “No, we weren’t role playing then.”
“Then why not tell someone that you were just raped?”
“Because I was scared!” Demi yelled back to Rob.
“Scared of what? It was just a simple role playing game!”
“Objection!" Eva shouted wanting Rob to stop his questioning.
“Or are you simply making these stories up to get back at your former best friend Taylor for stealing Zack away from you!?” he continued to yell at Demi.
“Your honor, objection!! Badgering the witness!” Eva shouted standing up from her seat.”
“No further questions.” Rob quickly said and walked back to his table sitting next to Zack.
Demi glared at Zack who appeared to have a slight smirk on his face.
“The witness may step down.” The judge calmly said to Demi.
Demi quickly stood up and marched out of the courtroom.
“You’re honor may I ask for a short break?” Eva said sounding exhausted yet annoyed.
“I think we’ve had enough for today. I have some other obligations to attend, we will start here bright and early tomorrow 9am sharp. Court is adjourned.”

Chapter 21
Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando
_ Sabrina and her aunt Kelly sat in the Hard Rock Café for
dinner that evening. By this time, Raven and Demi had already left town to go back to Atlanta. Demi
didn’t want to stay another minute there in Orlando. She was starting to have
regrets in coming to testify. Zack’s attorney made it seem like the rape was
all in her head and it was all for show to get a revenge back on Taylor.
Sabrina rested her forehead down in her hands as she thought about the day.
“Are you okay, sweetie? How are you feeling?” Kelly asked Sabrina as she sat across from her at the table.
“I just can’t believe we have to stay another night here. Im worried what Zack’s attorney will say to me once I get on the stand.” Sabrina said with a concerned expression.
“That’s why you’re going to be strong and take on whatever that bastard says. That guy is such an asshole…just like the client he is representing, Zack. What a perfect match.” Kelly said as if in deep thoughts in reminiscing about the day in court. She continued, “Remember, like Eva said, he’s going to make you feel like you’re so dumb and don’t know what you’re talking about. Don’t doubt yourself, Brin. You know the truth. You said no to those dumb assholes, and that’s final.”
Sabrina gave her aunt a faint smile as silence fell between the two.
“Do you have an appetite?” Kelly asked as she looked down at the menu changing the subject.
Sabrina sighed. “Yeah. I was just really nervous earlier. Hopefully I won’t be the same tomorrow.”
Moments later they ordered their food and were shortly able to enjoy their meal. Sabrina talked to Cody about his first day of school on her cell phone. He talked her ear off about how much he enjoyed his class. This made Sabrina happy and put her in a place outside of all the shenanigans in Orlando. She wished she could hold him, but hearing his voice would have to be suffice.
Once she was done talking to Cody on the phone, Kelly got on the phone to speak to her husband Derek.
“Im going to go to the restroom.” Sabrina said quietly to Kelly not wanting to interrupt her phone conversation.
“Okay, I will pay for our food and meet you in the front.” Kelly said holding the phone away from her mouth.
Sabrina nodded okay and excused herself.
Once Sabrina primped herself in the mirror after washing her hands, she walked out of the restroom looking down in her purse. Just as she was passing the men’s restroom she bumped into a man who was also coming out of the restroom. They bumped into each other so hard, Sabrina dropped her purse. “Oh my gosh! Im so sorry!” Sabrina and the man she bumped into reached down to the floor to pick up her purse.
As the man handed her a few items that fell out of her purse he slowly stood up with a slight frown on his face. “Sarbina?”
Sabrina looked up at the person she had bumped into and couldn’t believe her eyes. “Oh my gosh….Josh?”
Josh. Joshua Hutchinson. Sabrina repeated his name in her head. Was she really saying his name and now he was there in the flesh standing there looking at her. Yes, Cody’s father, Josh, was really standing there in front of her. He was definitely Cody’s father, Sabrina thought. She could see all of Cody's features in Josh.
Sabrina rested her forehead down in her hands as she thought about the day.
“Are you okay, sweetie? How are you feeling?” Kelly asked Sabrina as she sat across from her at the table.

Josh Hutchinson
_
“Hey…what…what are you doing here?” he asked.
“What are you doing here? I thought you moved to California?”
“I thought you were still in Atlanta?” he asked standing back and taking a good look at her.
“Im here on business.”
“So am I.” Josh replied.
They both just stood there not sure what to say to one another. Sabrina hadn’t heard from him in years. All Sabrina knew of Josh was that she still got a check for child support for their son, Cody.
“You still look nice. I mean, you haven’t really changed.” he said as he folded his arms in front of his chest.
“Thanks.” Sabrina said looking up at him. “You look different. I guess you’re keeping your hair shorter now a days.”
Josh rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah…something like that.” He paused and continued as he looked around. “Where’s the baby?”
“The baby? Oh, you mean as in your son, Cody, who is no longer a baby? Yeah, he’s back in Atlanta. I couldn’t allow him to come with me…so.”
“I know he’s not a baby anymore, Brin.” Josh said gazing into her eyes.
“Well…I should go.” Sabrina said looking into the distance for her aunt.
“Wait.” Josh said gently grabbing her arm.
Sabrina stopped and looked at him wondering what he wanted.
“How long are you here in town for?” he asked.
“Hopefully I can leave tomorrow. Why?”
“I was thinking maybe we could get together and talk. I have a lot to catch up on, ya know?”
Sabrina snickered at what she thought was him being ridiculous. “I don’t think so, Josh.”
Sabrina started to walk away when Josh stopped her once again.
“Im just asking if we can get together and talk. Let me give you my number.” Josh said scrounging for something to give her his number. “We can exchange numbers and keep in contact, ya know?”
Sabrina shook her head at Josh. “After 8 ½ years? Now? Now you want to be involved?”
“Im trying here, okay?” He then handed her a business card with his contact information.
“You’re a business consultant?” Sabrina asked as she looked down at the business card he gave her.
“Just call the number, okay? I would love to hear from Cody one day. What’s your number?”
“Let me think on this.”
“What is there to think about? Im his dad.”
Sabrina narrowed her eyes at Josh. She snickered and shook her head at Josh. “Right.” She then walked away and suddenly stopped walking back towards him with anger in her eyes. “Anyone can be a father, Josh… but it takes a real man to be a dad. And that, Joshua Hutchinson, is not you.” Sabrina turned and walked away without saying another word.
-----------
Sabrina ended her call with Nick and squealed with excitement. “He’s almost here!” she said with a broad smile speaking to her aunt who was lying down on her bed in the hotel they were in.
“That’s great Brin! But, I thought he had to work today?”
“Yeah I know. I guess he called out. I don’t know, I didn’t ask questions. I just know he’s going to be here soon.”
Kelly smiled. “Are you guys a couple now? If you are, I think its fantastic and Im so happy for you.”
Sabrina shrugged her shoulders. “We never really officially said we were but…I guess...I don't know.” Sabrina smiled shyly.
“Did you guys have sex?”
Sabrina gasped in shock. “Aunt Kelly!”
Kelly laughed. “Brin, you know you can tell me anything, right?”
“I know…but…it’s just weird. You’re my aunt.” Sabrina said shyly with embarrassment.
“I take it that you guys have.” Kelly smiled and giggled. “Did you enjoy it?”
“Aunt Kelly!!” Sabrina gasped once again in shock.
Kelly laughed. “I take it that you did.”
“Do you enjoy Derek?” Sabrina shot back at her trying to embarrass her.
“Oh my gosh, yes! I wouldn’t have married him if I didn’t! I hope you guys haven’t heard us since you’ve been staying over there.” Kelly smiled brightly.
Sabrina buried her face into her hands. “Oh my God! Aunt Kelly I don’t want to hear anymore!” she laughed.
Kelly joined in her laughter.
Several minutes later, there was a knock on their hotel room door. Sabrina hopped up and ran to the door. She swung the door open without looking thru the peep hole nor asking who was at the door. On the other side of the door stood Nick.
“What are you doing here? I thought you moved to California?”
“I thought you were still in Atlanta?” he asked standing back and taking a good look at her.

Several minutes later, there was a knock on their hotel room door. Sabrina hopped up and ran to the door. She swung the door open without looking thru the peep hole nor asking who was at the door. On the other side of the door stood Nick.
_ He wore a simple white t-shirt and dark blue jeans with a
back pack hanging off his shoulder. He smiled as soon as he laid eyes on
Sabrina who was wearing a yellow Orlando shirt and white shorts. Sabrina smiled
and immediately wrapped her arms around his neck embracing him tightly. She
kissed his cheek and continued hugging him. “Im so happy you’re here!”
“Hey Bri-bear.” He whispered sweetly in her ear.
Kelly got up from her bed and cleared her throat. “Hey there!”
Sabrina finally pulled away from Nick when she heard her aunt clear her throat. Nick smiled at Kelly and walked up to her to give her a hug. “Hey Kelly.” He said as he embraced her.
“Good to see you and glad you made it here safely.” Kelly said as she hugged him. She then pulled away from him and asked, “How was the drive?”
“Smooth sailing.” Nick replied pleasantly.
“What did you tell your boss?” Sabrina asked.
“I worked a couple of hours and then told him that I had a family emergency.”
“Can you stay the night, or do you have to go back tonight?” Sabrina asked with hopeful eyes.
“Im staying over.” He replied wrapping his arm around Sabrina’s shoulders.
Sabrina happily wrapped her arms around his torso.
“Oh, well were you able to get a room here too?” Kelly asked.
“Im going to have to get a room at another hotel down the road.”
“No…you can stay here with us, right aunt Kelly?” Sabrina stated looking at her aunt.
“Sure.” Kelly replied quickly.
“Okay, as long as you two are okay with it.” Nick added.
Both Kelly and Sabrina agreed.
The three of them stayed in the hotel room talking and giving Nick the run-down of the day in court.
As the sun set, and the moon raised high into the dark sky, Nick and Sabrina walked down to hotel pool area. They talked as they slowly walked around the pool. There was one other couple in the deep end of the pool making out. Sabrina and Nick sat at the shallow end of the pool dangling their feet into the cool chlorine filled pool. Nick stared at the couple that was underneath the waterfall cave of the pool as he rolled his jeans up to his knee. He imagined the couple as if it was he and Sabrina and smiled.
“What’s so funny?” Sabrina asked when she noticed him smiling.
“Nothing.” He said with a grin as he stared at Sabrina.
“Too bad we can’t get in huh?” Sabrina said as she slowly kicked her feet thru the water.
“We can if we really wanted to.” Nick smiled as he leaned into her shoulder giving her a slight nudge.
“We don’t have our bathing suits.”
“Who says we need bathing suits.”
“Im not skinny dipping!”
Nick laughed. “No, babe, Im not talking about skinny dipping. Although, that would be really cool. But we could go in our underwear. Your underwear is like a two piece bikini anyway, right?”
Sabrina playfully pushed him, “Nooo.”
“Wanna wait until that horny couple decides to leave the pool?”
Sabrina laughed, “We’ll see.”
“Nice.” Nick grinned and brought her chin up so he could kiss her.
They gave each other a sensual and lingering kiss. Nick squeezed her upper thigh as he slowly pulled away from their kiss.
“I’ve missed you so much.” He whispered.
“I’ve missed you too. Im so glad you’re here, Nick. You have no idea.”
Nick caressed her thigh as they sat in silence.
“You won’t believe who I ran into today.” Sabrina said as she looked down at the water.
“Who?”
“Cody’s father, Josh.”
“Where? Here?” Nick asked confused.
“Yep.” Sabrina nodded her head.
“I thought you said he was in California?”
“That’s what I thought. He said he was here on business.”
Nick frowned at the thought. “So…what did he say?”
“He gave me his business card wanting me to call him. He wants Cody to call him too…but I don’t think so.”
“Well…why not?”
“Because…Josh has been out of Cody’s life for all of his life, why start now?”
“But Brin, he’s trying.”
Sabrina looked at Nick and narrowed her eyes. “Who’s side are you on?”
“Im just saying, as a father, I can understand why he wants to talk to his son.”
“Almost nine years later? He’s never given Cody a birthday card or anything and now he wants Cody to just call him out of the blue? He’s crazy…and so are you if you’re taking his side.” Sabrina said upset.
“All im saying is that maybe he finally realized how much he is missing out on a great kid.”
“Oh puh-lease. He wouldn’t have thought twice about Cody if we hadn’t bumped into each other.”
“Maybe that was all he needed.” Nick replied calmly.
“Whatever.” Sabrina shook her head.
Sabrina stood up abruptly as if she were upset. Nick looked confusingly at her. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Im tired.”
“Are you upset?” Nick asked following her lead as he rolled his jeans back down.
“Men always stick together. That’s what they do best.” Sabrina said with an attitude.
“Im not sticking up for the asshole. Im just saying at least he finally made an attempt. Most guys don’t even do that.”
Nick suddenly stopped when he thought about Joanna and the fact that she said she was pregnant with his child once again. Was it right for him to totally deny and avoid her? He had been ignoring her calls that whole day.
Sabrina stopped and looked at Nick realizing he was in deep thoughts. “Are you coming?”
Nick snapped out of his thoughts and followed her lead.
They got off the elevator and walked towards Sabrina’s room. Sabrina was about to slide the key card thru the card slot to open the door, when Nick grabbed Sabrina’s hand. Sabrina turned to look at him.
“Im sorry. Just don’t be upset with me. I didn’t come here for us not to get along.” Nick said apologetic.
Sabrina gave him a smile. “Why not? That’s what we do, remember? We argue and then kiss and make up.”
Nick smiled as he leaned down and planted a kiss on her lips. They slowly deepened the kiss and started to get very heated as he pushed her up against the door. Sabrina finally pushed him away. “Whoa there, tiger. My aunt is inside.”
“Dammit.” Nick whispered with a grin.
Sabrina giggled and opened the door for them to go inside. Nick playfully slapped her butt as they walked in.

“Dammit.” Nick whispered with a grin.
Sabrina giggled and opened the door for them to go inside. Nick playfully slapped her butt as they walked in.
_ Kelly was sound asleep in her bed near the window when they walked in. They both
quietly got comfortable to prepare for bed.
Sabrina wore a white loosely fitted t-shirt and her pink and white polka-dot underwear. Nick wore a white tank top and his maroon plaid boxers. They both climbed into Sabrina’s bed under the covers moving into a spooning position.
“I love you Bri-bear.” Nick whispered into Sabrina’s ear as he gave her a light squeeze from behind.
“I love you too.” Sabrina said and slightly turned her head to give Nick a quick kiss on the lips.
Sabrina started to pull away from their kiss, however, Nick held her face not allowing her to pull away from the kiss.
Nick deepened the kiss and slid his hand underneath her t-shirt and began caressing her bare breasts. Sabrina grabbed his hand and pulled it away. Nick slowly maneuvered himself on top of Sabrina spreading her legs apart with his knees so he could lay comfortably between her legs as they continued to kiss. He pulled the bed covers completely over their heads as if hiding each other from the open air in the room.
As Nick did that, Sabrina quietly giggled and whispered, “Nick, nooo…what are you doing?”
“Shhh…we have to be very quiet.” Nick whispered with a smile and crashed his lips back down onto her lips.
Sabrina kissed back as he laid on top of her kissing her passionately. Sabrina could feel his hardness press against her between her legs as he raised her tshirt up to her chin caressing her breast. As they kissed, she moaned into his mouth unintentionally allowing it to escape from her. She could feel Nick’s hand travel down her body and began pulling at her panties.
Sabrina grabbed his hand to stop him. “Nick…stop.” she whispered breathlessly with passion.
“Shhhh.” Nick said quietly as he attempted to pull at her underwear once again.
Sabrina grabbed his hand once again. “Nick….”
Nick pulled his hand away as he slowed his breathing and softly kissed her lips.
“Nick, my aunt is right there. We can’t do this now.” Sabrina whispered with a smile as she attempted to pull her tshirt back down over her bare breasts.
Nick began kissing and nibbling on her neck. He made sure the covers were still covering them above their heads. “She doesn’t have to know.” Nick said in less than a whisper in her ear as he raised her tshirt up once again, sending a tingly feeling down her body.
He thrust against Sabrina forcing a moan to escape her lips once again as she felt his hardness press against her thru her underwear.
“I missed you so much.” Nick whispered in ear.
Nick moved his lips back over her lips and began hungrily kissing her.
Sabrina kissed him back momentarily and then tried to push him away. “Nick stop. Look at me.” Sabrina whispered grabbing his face with both of her hands.
Nick stopped and looked down at her with lust in his eyes.
“We cannot do this right now. My aunt is right there!” Sabrina whispered to him as her lips slightly brushed against his.
Nick sighed with disappointment. “Not even for a second?” Nick whispered with hopeful eyes.
Sabrina giggled quietly. “No!”
Nick sighed and puckered his lips giving her a light kiss on the lips and removed himself off from on top of her.
Sabrina pulled the covers away from over their heads feeling the coolness of the room suddenly hit her face. She pulled her t-shirt down and snuggled against Nick moving her leg on top of his. She then took her hand and slid it underneath his tank top feeling his bare muscular abs. She slowly slid her hand up to his muscular chest.
“Uhmm…don’t do that. Unless you want me to tackle you right here right now.” Nick whispered to Sabrina.
Sabrina laughed trying her best to keep quiet.
Nick grinned. “Im serious, Brin. Stop touching me!” Nick said in a low voice.
Sabrina continued to laugh and moved away from him.
Suddenly, Nick’s cell phone rung out loudly. Both Nick and Sabrina popped up looking for his phone so it wouldn’t wake Kelly. Nick spotted it on the table by the television. Nick quickly hopped out of bed and grabbed his phone just as Kelly began making movement in her bed.
“Brin…your phone.” Kelly said in a groggy voice as she shifted around under her covers.
“Sorry…Aunt Kelly…sorry.” Sabrina said softly as she sat up in the bed with her hands up to her lips.
“Sorry, Kelly.” Nick whispered as he climbed back into the bed next to Sabrina.
Nick looked at his phone and saw the caller id. It read: Joanna. He said a curse in his head. Talk about perfect timing, Nick thought to himself. He placed the phone on the nightstand that separated their bed from Kelly’s bed, as Sabrina slid back under the covers to get comfortable. Just as Nick slid back under the covers, his cell phone rung again. Nick quickly picked up the phone and saw that it was Joanna calling yet again. Nick sighed.
“You should answer it. It might be important.” Sabrina said as she turned on her side allowing her back to face him.
Nick climbed out of bed and grabbed his jeans putting them on. He then whispered to Sabrina, “Im going to take this outside.”
Sabrina didn’t respond.
Nick grabbed the key card and walked outside of the room. He called Joanna back since she had hung up.
“Why haven’t you been answering your phone? How do you know something wasn’t wrong with Joss and Im trying to get in contact with you?” Joanna barked into the phone as soon as she picked up.
“What do you want?” Nick answered.
“We need to talk.” Joanna replied on the other end of the line.
“What?”
“Nick, I went to the doctor today. Im 4 months pregnant.”
Nick sighed. “Jo, why are you telling me this? Clearly you need to tell the father of this child.”
“I am, asshole. Im telling you because you are the father. Don’t do this to me again. Do not put me thru another paternity test.”
“We didn’t sleep together 4months ago, Jo. It was like 5 – 6 months ago.”
“No it wasn’t genius!”
“I always used a condom, and then you said you were on the pill.”
“Condoms can break, Nick. And just because I was on the pill doesn’t mean shit. I have missed a couple of days and I guess we got caught slipping. You are the only one I have been with, Nick. Im sick and tired of you thinking im such a slut and I go around having sex with every man in the world. You’re the only whore between the two of us, Nick!”
Nick slid down the wall he was leaning against and sat on the carpeted floor in the hotel hallway. He ran his fingers thru his short curly hair. “I can’t…I ...” Nick hesitated as he thought about Sabrina.
Should he tell Sabrina? What would she say? This was such bad timing. Just when he was trying to build a solid relationship with Sabrina. The one he truly loves.
“What are you going to do?” Joanna asked interrupting Nick’s thoughts.
Nick remained silent for a few moments. “Jo…Im sorry, I can’t deal with this right now. I just…can’t…” Nick said and ended the call.
Sabrina wore a white loosely fitted t-shirt and her pink and white polka-dot underwear. Nick wore a white tank top and his maroon plaid boxers. They both climbed into Sabrina’s bed under the covers moving into a spooning position.

Part II
The Hotel They Stayed In
_ Kelly’s alarm loudly set off at 6:00am the next morning.
Kelly quickly popped up and turned the alarm off. She looked over at Sabrina
and Nick who didn’t move at all over in the other bed when the alarm set off. Kelly sat up and yawned.
Wearing a gray tank top and pink satin pajama pants, Kelly slowly got out of
bed and tied her hair into a messy ponytail. She walked over to the side of the
bed where Sabrina was laying snuggled under the covers. Kelly sat down on
Sabrina’s bed and nudged her leg. “Brin, wake up. Time to get up.” Kelly said
in a low tone.
Sabrina groaned yet didn’t move. Sabrina and Nick were sleeping in a spooning position.
“Brin, c’mon, you know you take forever to get dressed.” Kelly said speaking a little louder as she nudged Sabrina’s leg once again.
Sabrina slowly stretched as she started to move about in bed. Nick moved on his back allowing Sabrina to stretch.
“Good morning ladies.” Nick said in a deep scratchy voice.
“G’morning, Nicholas.” Kelly responded.
Sabrina yawned saying, “Aunt Kelly, why don’t you take a shower first, and then I will go.”
“Okay fine, but you need to get up. Get up and get something to eat.” Kelly said as she stood up and walked over to her overnight bag on the other side of her bed.
“I don’t think I should eat…considering what happened yesterday morning.” Sabrina said as she sat up running her fingers thru her hair flipping it to the side.
“What happened yesterday?” Nick asked in a low tone as he rubbed Sabrina’s lower back underneath her t-shirt.
Sabrina turned her head to look down at Nick still lying down. “I threw up all of my breakfast because I was so nervous.”
“Yeah well, if you don’t eat anything and you still throw up, you’ll end up dehydrated and still sick…so eat something.” Kelly said without looking at either Sabrina or Nick.
Sabrina rolled her eyes. “Seriously, aunt Kelly…”
“Im so serious.” Kelly said digging in her bag.
Nick smiled at the two and their relationship. “How about I go see what kind of breakfast they have downstairs.”
“They don’t, I think it’s just continental breakfast. Aunt Kelly is that what you want?”
Before Kelly had a chance to respond, Nick responded still rubbing Sabrina’s back, “Well I can just go down the street and pick up some McDonalds or BurgerKing…or, whatever you guys want.”
“No, Nick, you don’t have to. We’ll take whatever is downstairs. Im not picky at all.” Kelly said holding her personal items as she walked toward the bathroom.
Sabrina laid down on top of Nick’s chest saying, “We’ll get something aunt Kelly, I promise.”
“Okay, by the time I get out the shower I hope you will be eating something or done eating something.” Kelly said walking into the bathroom. “Any requests, Kel?” Nick asked.
“Bagel and cream cheese and some kind of juice would be awesome. Thank you!” Kelly said as she closed the bathroom door.
As soon as the door was closed Sabrina raised her head and looked up at Nick. “She can be so bossy sometimes.”
Nick smiled. “So that’s where you get that from, huh?”
Sabrina playfully hit Nick’s chest. She then lightly kissed Nick’s lips.
She then attempted to get up, but Nick brought her back closer to him. “Wait.”
“What?” Sabrina smiled.
“Let’s wait for her to turn the shower on and then…we can…you know…” Nick said as he began sliding his hands down her back to her butt. “Oh my god, Nick, you’re so horny.” She playfully hit his chest and got up.
Nick chuckled as he sat up. “Well it was worth a shot.”
Nick grabbed his jeans and socks putting them on. Sabrina was digging in her overnight bag when she stopped to look over at Nick who was now putting on his shoes. “I think I want Chick-Fil-A for breakfast. Their chicken biscuits are awesome.”
“You want me to go there?” Nick asked.
Sabrina bit her lower lip. “Yes…if you don’t mind. I mean…you don’t have to…”
“Sure, baby…anything for you.”
“Thanks babe.” Sabrina replied with a smile.
Nick brushed his teeth and washed his face at the small sink near the door and grabbed his car keys. He walked up behind Sabrina wrapping his arms around her waist giving her a light squeeze and kissed her cheek. “I’ll be right back.”
“Okay.”
Nick opened the door saying, “I love you.”
“Love you too.” Sabrina smiled.
Moments later Kelly walked out of the bathroom wearing a towel over her undergarments. She looked around the room and didn’t see Nick. “Nick is still gone?”
“Yep. He went to Chick-Fil-A to get breakfast instead.” Sabrina answered once she finished ironing her black blazer jacket she was planning to wear for the day in court.
As Kelly got dressed she asked Sabrina, “Did you tell him about Josh last night?”
“Yes.”
“And?”
“He thinks I should give him a chance.” Sabrina said walking into the bathroom to take a shower.
“Really? Maybe he feels that way because he was thinking of his daughter’s mom.” Kelly shrugged as she buttoned her pants to wear with her pants suit.
“I doubt it. He can’t stand Joss’s mom.”
“At least he’s there for his daughter.” Kelly softly stated.
After a while, when Kelly was putting on her makeup near the small sink looking into the mirror, and Sabrina was done with her shower yet still wrapped in a towel, Nick finally came back knocking on the door. Kelly answered the door letting him in.
“Food is here.”
“Thanks so much Nick.” Kelly said with a smile closing the door behind him. "How much do I owe you?"
"Nothing. It's on me." Nick smiled at her as he walked to the small table in the room.
As soon as Nick walked into the hotel room he could smell the sweet fragrance of both Kelly and Sabrina thru out the room. He inhaled the scent saying, “Mmm, smells good ladies.”
Both Sabrina and Kelly thanked him.
Nick walked into the bathroom where Sabrina was curling her hair. He placed his personal items on the sink counter as he stared at Sabrina’s reflection in the mirror. “Brin I can’t believe you’re not dressed yet.” He grinned.
“I told you she was slow.” Kelly teased from outside of the bathroom.
“Ha, ha…very funny aunt Kelly.” Sabrina said sarcastically with a smile.
She then closed the bathroom door leaving her and Nick in the bathroom alone. Nick smiled as he looked into her eyes when she turned to look at him. I got you a sprite to drink. Is that okay?”
Sabrina walked closely up to him as she looked up at him. “Mmm-hmm. That’s cool.” She then raised on her tip toes and kissed his lips.
Nick kissed her back as he placed his hands on her hips pulling her into him as he deepened the kiss.
Sabrina slowly pulled away speaking in a soft tone, “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Sabrina smiled and walked back over to her curling iron to continue curling her hair.
Nick wanted to yank the towel away from her and jump her bones but he knew Sabrina wouldn’t allow it. He would just have to dwell into his imagination.
“What are you wearing today?” Sabrina asked snapping him out of his thoughts.
“Ahhh..dammit, I left my suit in my car. I have to go back down and get it.”
“Bummer.”
“Yeah, no kidding. I’ll be back.” Nick said opening the bathroom door to leave.
Nick threw his shoes back on and left out of the hotel room. As soon as Nick closed the door behind him he looked down the hall and saw a familiar person dart into the stairwell. Nick furrowed his eyebrows. That wasn’t Jacob was it? He wondered. Nick rushed after the person to make sure and quickly opened the stairwell door. He heard someone rushing up the stairs. Nick looked up and called out to Jacob in a loud shout allowing his voice to echo. The person stopped and looked down over the rails. It was Jacob.
He smiled down at Nick. “Hey buddy!” Jacob said flatly.
Nick marched up the steps to talk to Jacob.

Jacob
_“What are you doing here?” Nick asked as he climbed a few
more steps closer to Jacob.
“You mean here in Orlando or here at this hotel?” Jacob smirked.
“Both.” Nick asked still with a frown on his face.
“Maybe I should ask you dude. I thought Sabrina was staying here, not you.”
“Well, now you know asshole. How did you know Sabrina was staying here?”
“Whoa…defensive much.” Jacob chuckled.
“You’re about two seconds away from an ass whoopin Jacob –“
“Wow, really, bro. I thought we were brothers. You’re gonna turn against me over some ho?”
Nick rushed up to Jacob and jacked him up against the wall holding him by his collar.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Calm your nerves, bro! We both know Sabrina’s a ho. You saw how she was acting at that party years ago. Why do you think she fucked Roger, Paul, Zack, almost the entire football team and Zack’s cousin, Josh.”
Nick looked at him with a slight puzzled expression.
“You don’t know Josh? Josh is her son’s father.” Jacob informed Nick.
Nick slowly released Jacob’s collar. He couldn’t believe what Jacob was saying.
“Yeah. Surprised? I guess she didn’t tell you about that, huh? If she’s so devastated about so-called being raped by Zack and his brother…why was she fucking their cousin, Josh?” Jacob paused as he saw the stunned look on Nick’s face. He smiled. “I told you she was lying about being raped dude. That’s why us brothers have to stick together against these hoes. They get mad because they get a train ran on them and then they wanna claim rape? Yea right.” Jacob said fixing his shirt as Nick backed away from him.
Nick appeared to be in deep thoughts. Why would Sabrina date Zack’s cousin, Josh? Cody’s father is Josh. Josh is Cody’s father? That’s why Josh is here…for Zack. Nick thought to himself.
Nick then looked at Jacob. “What are you doing here at this hotel, creeping around?”
“We followed you from Chick-Fil-A.”
“We?”
Jacob laughed. “Nevermind. See you in court, bro. Maybe you’ll be on Zack’s side. But if not…think about how much of a liar and a ho your girl Sabrina is. Im pretty sure she fucked Zack’s friend, Mitch, too and whoever else has a dick…” Jacob said as he walked up to Nick and smirked. He then continued, “…except for you. The guy in the freaking friend zone.”
Before Nick knew it, he snapped and punched Jacob in the face forcing him to fall back onto the wall almost losing his balance down the stairs. Jacob looked stunned that Nick would hit him. He touched his nose and felt that his nose was bleeding. Jacob cursed and charged after Nick. They instantly began tussling with each other. Jacob tried his hardest to throw his fist at Nick but he wasn’t able to. Nick kept throwing his right fist into Jacob’s face repeatedly. Jacob lost his balance started to fall down the steps. He pulled Nick down with him as they now tumbled down the steps finally stopping on the 6th floor where Sabrina's room was located.
Both were sore from the cemented steps as they both groaned in pain.
“All this over a bitch, Nick?!” Jacob shouted at Nick as blood spat from his mouth.
Nick got up and charged toward Jacob once again. Jacob quickly got up bracing himself for Nick’s hit. They wrestled each other into the corner of the stairwell close to the next set of stairs. Suddenly the doors swung open and Nick felt several hands pulling him off of Jacob. Nick was thrown against the wall and saw Roger and Paul.
Nick suddenly felt a hard punch in his lower abdomen. Nick grunted and bent over in pain. As soon as he bent over, he felt someone’s hard fist hook him in his jaw forcing him to fall against the wall. Another fist landed in his eye, and Nick fell to the ground. Nck felt several fists punching him and felt several kicks in stomach, and his side as he was constantly stomped down into the ground in the corner of the stairwell. Nick was unable to defend himself with all three guys now beating on him.
He suddenly felt a sharp blade of pain stab into his side. Then another sharp blade of pain into his side almost in the same spot.
“What the fuck you doing?!” Nick heard one of them say.
“Letting him know not to fuck with us!”
“Idiot! Let’s get outta here.”
Nick heard them quickly rush down the stairs. It seem like they went down a couple of flights before Nick heard the door open and close that they must have exit out of. Nick slowly raised up spitting out blood from his mouth. He mumbled a curse feeling so much pain. He looked down and touched the side of his torso. He pulled his hand away and saw his hand heavily covered in blood.
“You mean here in Orlando or here at this hotel?” Jacob smirked.

Part III
Sabrina & Kelly
_ Sabrina had just ate her last bite of her chicken biscuit
sandwich and walked over to the small sink and tied her hair into a low bun
leaving curly tendrils down to the side.
Kelly had just ended her call to Derek when Sabrina placed her hands on her hips. “How do I look? Do I look nervous?”
Kelly smiled at her niece. “No, honey…you look beautiful.”
“Thanks, Aunt Kelly.”
Kelly stood up getting ready to walk into the bathroom when she asked, “Where’s Nick? Does it take him that long to go down stairs and get his suit?”
“I don’t know. Maybe he stopped off down in the lobby for something.” Sabrina said as she walked over to her bed and grabbed her black blazer jacket. Just as Kelly walked into the bathroom, there was distorted knock at the door. “Oh, that’s probably him now.” Sabrina said calmly walking toward the door.
She opened the door to see Nick practically fall inside the room onto the floor. It was as if the door had been holding him up until Sabrina opened the door. Sabrina’s eyes went wide as panic and fear settled inside of her. Nick’s white t-shirt was covered in blood. The door he had leaned against was now smeared with his blood. His face was battered and bruised as blood trickled down from his nose and down his chin from his mouth.
“Oh my God, Nick!” Sabrina gasped in shock as she quickly bent down to the floor to cradle Nick. Tears quickly welled up into her eyes. “Aunt Kelly!!” Sabrina shouted thru her tears. “Baby, what happened?” Sabrina said as she tearfully looked down at Nick.
Kelly quickly ran out of the bathroom to see Nick battered and bleeding lying on the floor. “Oh my God! Nick!”
“Aunt Kelly what do we do?” Sabrina cried as she looked up at her.
“Pull him in, quick!” Kelly said pulling on Nick’s arm to pull his whole body into their room in order to close the door.
Sabrina helped her aunt to pull Nick inside. Nick grunted loudly in pain. Once he was fully inside, Kelly quickly ran to grab some towels.
“Baby, who did this to you?” Sabrina asked him tearfully.
Nick grunted a curse as he weakly tried to speak holding his side.
Kelly rushed back up to Nick and Sabrina with the towels in hand. “Let me see…” Kelly said in a comforting tone trying to get Nick to remove his hand. Once Sabrina helped him to remove his hand, Kelly lifted his t-shirt and saw that Nick had what looked like 3 stab wounds that was bleeding profusely. “Oh my God.” Kelly whispered as Sabrina gasped in horror. “Brin, keep pressure on his wounds to try and stop the bleeding.” Kelly demanded as she quickly stood up and walked away.
“Wh-what? What are you about to do?” Sabrina asked as her voice quivered.
“Im calling the police.”

Orlando Regional Medical Center Hosp
_ Sabrina and Kelly sat in the waiting room at the Orlando
Regional Medical Center. Kelly continually rubbed Sabrina’s back as Sabrina sat
slumped over in her seat with her head buried in her hands. They soon heard
loud clicking heels hit the tile floor as someone approached them. It was attorney Eva
Mendez. Her hair was tied in a French roll with her bangs hanging down to the side. She wore a brown
pin striped fitted dress and brown suede stilettos with her briefcase in hand.
As she walked around the corner she saw Sabrina and her aunt. “Sabrina?”
Sabrina lifted her head at the sound of her name. Sabrina and her aunt stood up when they saw Eva.
“Hi. Thank you for coming.” Kelly said softly to Eva.
“Of course, of course. What is the status?” Eva asked with sincerity.
“We haven’t heard anything. He’s still in surgery.” Sabrina responded somberly.
“Okay…and what did the police say?”
“They are looking for Jacob, Roger and Paul now. They’ll let us know something as soon as possible.”
“Okay. Did Nick say anything as to why or how this happened?”
“No. He just said Jacob started talking a lot of crap…they fought…and then Roger and Paul jumped in.”
“This has gone too far. They all need to be in jail right now.” Kelly said angrily as she wrapped her arms around Sabrina’s shoulder.
“I agree with you. I spoke to the judge and he pushed back the time for court at 2pm today. I have a strong feeling that court may also continue on tomorrow as well.” Eva said as she looked at both Sabrina and Kelly. She noticed there was blood on their clothes and skin. She continued, “But at least…this will give you all some time to get cleaned up and to check on your friend, Nick. Sabrina I think we need to talk a little more in detail about these other guys. Why are they so connected with you after all of these years?”
Sabrina shoved her curly tendril behind her ear and folded her arms. “I don’t know. I don’t understand. I don’t know what they were doing at the hotel..I don’t know why they were there…I just…I don’t get it.” Sabrina said in deep thoughts highly confused.
“It’s okay. Don’t worry about it. We are going to get to the bottom of this. Let’s have a seat.” Eva gestured for Sabrina to follow her into a corner of the waiting room.
Kelly followed them just as Eva’s legal assistant, Christopher, joined them.

--------------
_ It was now an hour before 2pm when court was going to be in session. Sabrina and Kelly made it back to the hospital after changing out of their bloody clothes. Sabrina’s hair was now flowing over her shoulders as she wore a black
and white striped shirt and a black skirt.
She knocked on the door before entering Nick's hospital room. She heard a female’s voice say ‘Come in.’ Sabrina entered into Nick’s hospital room with her aunt Kelly close behind her. Sabrina saw Nick’s mother sitting at his bed side. “Sandra…?” Sabrina said shocked to see his mother there.
Sandra wiped the tears from her face and stood up to greet both Sabrina and Kelly. “Hi.” She hugged Sabrina.
“When did you get here?” Sabrina asked still shocked Nick’s mother was there.
“About an hour or so ago.” she replied wiping her nose with a tissue.
“How is he?” Kelly asked looking at Nick lying in bed.
“He’s going to be fine. The doctor said he lost a lot of blood, but... he’ll be fine.” Sandra said flatly as she folded her arms across her chest. “Is he awake?” Sabrina asked looking over at Nick.
“He’s kind of in and out…but yea go talk to him.” Sandra said slightly pushing Sabrina toward Nick. Sandra then turned her attention toward Kelly. “Can we talk? Outside?”
Kelly stared at Sandra slightly confused but agreed to go outside the room to talk.
Sabrina walked up to Nick’s bed on his right side and held his hand as she looked down at his swollen beaten face. His left eye was swollen and had turned into a bruised color of dark purple and red. His left brow had three stitches. His bottom lip was cut and swollen. Nick had the obvious look of the result of being in a bad fight. His knuckles looked bruised as Sabrina held his hand lightly in her hand. Nick looked like he was sound asleep. She gently touched the top of his head as she leaned down placing her lips on his forehead giving him a light kiss. She then whispered, “Nick…baby, it’s me.”
Nick slowly opened his good eye; the right eye. Sabrina smiled down at him. “Hi.” She said lightly rubbing her fingers thru his hair.
“Hi.” Nick said softly.
“How are you holding up?”
Nick only grunted in response.
A tear escaped Sabrina’s eye and she quickly wiped it away. “I am so sorry, Nick.” Sabrina’s voice quivered.
Nick didn’t respond.
“Kelly’s here. She’s outside talking to your mom. She looked a little upset.” Sabrina paused and thought for a moment. She continued, “Which…if it were my son, I would be too. I would be mad at the girl he was defending…” Sabrina said referring to herself.
Sabrina looked away as she wiped another fallen tear. She then looked back down at Nick who looked like he had fallen back asleep.
“Im going to do everything I can to make sure those assholes go to jail for doing this to you. Im going to court and finish this thing off, and then—“
Sabrina stopped when she heard the door open and someone walking in clearing their throat. Sabrina turned to see another female carrying a pitcher of water. It was obvious she wasn’t a nurse. She wore an orange top and skinny blue denim jeans with matching orange stilettos. Her long black hair was swooped around her neck flowing over the opposite shoulder. She raised one brow up at Sabrina. Sabrina stood up straight preparing to greet the pretty woman. “Hi…” Sabrina said with a faint smile.

Joanna
__
“And you are…?” the woman said as she walked further into
Nick’s room.
Sabrina was slightly caught off guard by the woman’s rude greeting. Sabrina continued giving her a pleasant look. “Im Sabrina.”
Still staring Sabrina down with a snarky expression, the woman responded introducing herself, “Joanna.” She paused and smirked as if in deep thoughts. Her smirk slowly faded as she stared blankly at Sabrina. “So…you’re Sabrina.” Joanna said placing her hands on her hips shifting her weight on one leg.
“Yes. Im sorry…do I know you?”
Joanna smirked, “No sweetheart, you don’t know me. But I know that you’re the reason why Nick is lying in this bed.”
Sabrina looked down feeling bad. She then looked up at the woman named Joanna not sure what to say. “I…I didn’t –“
“Doesn’t matter. He’s here now. He almost lost his life fighting for you. For what?” Joanna interrupted Sabrina. She then continued before giving Sabrina a chance to respond. “That, I have no idea. Because you see…I’m the mother of his child Josslyn...”
A lightbulb suddenly went off in Sabrina’s head. It was the girl she saw with Nick at her class reunion. However she was a blonde at that time. She suddenly saw the resemblance of their daughter in her.
Joanna continued, “…and now Im pregnant with his second child…so... I would understand why he would go to the extreme and fight for me. But you? I don’t understand. Perhaps that’s something you can explain to me.”
Sabrina was taken aback by what she had just told her. Pregnant? Sabrina’s eyes lowered to Joanna’s flat belly. If she were pregnant, obviously she was only a few months pregnant due to no baby bump from her belly.
Sabrina looked back up to her eyes and quickly darted her eyes back at Nick. He was sleeping unconsciously. She’s pregnant with their second child? ‘Nick lied to me’…Sabrina thought.
“Hellooo?” Joanna said interrupting Sabrina’s thoughts.
Sabrina looked back up at Joanna. “Im sorry… I just—“
“Surprised?” Joanna insisted as she noticed the dumb found look on Sabrina’s face.
Sabrina really had no words. She couldn’t believe Nick had lied to her about he and his daughter’s mother relationship. Let alone her being pregnant. Their class reunion was almost a couple of months ago. Does that mean he was sleeping with her then or during the time they started talking? Sabrina’s mind wondered.
“Surely he told you about me and him…right?” Joanna said interrupting Sabrina’s thoughts once again.
Sabrina let go of Nick’s hand and slightly stepped back away from Nick. She folded her arms.
“Yes…he mentioned you before.”
“Funny…he never mentioned you before.” Joanna said emphasizing on the word ‘never’. She continued, “I only got word of you when his mother told me why he was here losing so much blood. And it was because of some girl named Sabrina. And that girl is you. A girl he never spoke of before.”
Sabrina found herself getting more and more upset. “Look, Im sorr—“
“Are you fucking him?”
Sabrina narrowed her eyes at Joanna. Before she had a chance to respond, the door burst open with her aunt walking inside.
“Sabrina let’s go.” Kelly said angrily.
Sabrina then saw Nick’s mother marching in behind her with a scowl on her face. “Aunt Kelly, what’s wrong?”
“Yes please…leave.” Sandra said as she walked toward Nick.
“Sabrina, come on.” Kelly said annoyed.
Sabrina started to walk toward her aunt just as Sandra passed her.
“Don’t bother contacting Nicholas again…you…” Sandra stopped and hissed at Sabrina.
“Hey! What did you just say to her?” Kelly said in anger to Sandra as she approached them both.
Sabrina looked at Sandra with hurt in her eyes. She then felt her arm being pulled by her aunt.
“What the hell did I say? If you have something to say, you say it to me dammit. Leave my niece alone. Brin, let’s go!” Kelly frowned pushing Sabrina out of Nick’s room.
Sabrina was confused.
“Aunt Kelly, what just happened?” she asked as they quickly walked down the corridor of the hospital.
“I swear I never really liked that woman. Years ago, your mother told me she had a mean streak in her. She’s always been jealous of us. Always.” Kelly said with an attitude.
Sabrina found herself having to slightly jog to keep up with her aunt.
Once they finally reached their rental car, Sabrina turned to her aunt placing her hand on her shoulder. “Aunt Kelly…please…what happened?”
Kelly placed the key in the ignition and paused, looking over at her bewildered niece. Kelly sat back in the driver’s seat and rested her elbow on the car door placing her hand on her forehead and sighed. Finally she responded, “Sweetie, I just want you to go inside that courtroom today and do what you have to do, okay?”
Sabrina stared at her aunt searching for answers. “Okay…but…why are you so upset with Nick’s mom? What did she say?”
Kelly took a deep breath as she tried to avoid eye contact with her niece.
“Aunt Kelly…just, tell me. I can take it…really.”
Her aunt stared at her and finally reluctantly responded, “She just started blaming you for everything. Apparently, before Nick was drugged up before we came, he told his mother that he thinks you may be lying about being raped. He regrets fighting for you because he almost lost his life. But Brin, I don’t believe her. I think she made it up. She just started pissing me off.”
Sabrina looked straight ahead out of the window thinking about what her aunt just told her. She looked down at her hands trying to hold back her tears.
“Sweetie…forget her, do you understand me? I know what happened to you…those assholes know what they did to you, you know what happened to you and God knows what happened to you. Now it’s time to tell this dumb judicial system what happened to you.” Kelly said starting the car heading off into the court house direction.
Sabrina looked out the window in deep thoughts. “It doesn’t matter, Aunt Kelly. Nick hasn’t really been truthful to me anyway, so Im not surprised if what Sandra said is how he really feels.”
Kelly glanced from the road to Sabrina repeatedly as she drove. “What do you mean?”
Sabrina’s eyes welled up with tears as she thought about Joanna and what she said to her. The fact that he never told Joanna about her or the fact that Joanna is now pregnant with their second child together was really bothering her. Sabrina shook her head trying to shake the thoughts out of her head. She ran her fingers thru her hair and took a deep breath. “Nothing,” she responded. “Im just going to focus on this court thing and hopefully this is the last day we have to be here in Orlando.”
Kelly reached over and held Sabrina’s hand in her lap. Sabrina took her hand and grasped Kelly’s hold.
